Happy Monday

Hello to everyone, I hope you all had a fantastic weekend :)

There are so many inspirational people in this forum, the wisdom and experiences make staying focussed a lot easier.

Momma Pyjama - no wonder your body grew larger, it needed extra room for all that love. What a wonderfully giving person you are, the world could do with more people like you.

My Cohens journey has its ups and downs. I find that I am super good for four or five days and then I bugger it all up for a day... its like a nasty cycle. On those days that I do the wrong thing I have an awful nights sleep, I get that horrible reflux and awful cramps in my legs which make me vow to be good from there on in.... but alas, every week it happens again. I still amazingly seem to be losing weight but it is obviously a lot slower than what it would be if I did it properly... I dont feel guilty after my bad meals, if I did it would all be a lot easier to beat myself up I guess. I am happy with the weight I am losing but I will have to pull my head in I think otherwise I wont be eligible for my refeed program. - As a summary, I have lost 26kg but still have about 40 to go. I will get there.

A funny story, my daughter came home from school the other day bursting with the news that her sister had said the 'F' word... she placed her hands on hips and waited for the inevitable telling off her younger sibling was about to receive. When I asked her why she used such an awful word she said I know, I am sorry, it just came out, I wont use that word again... happy with that I forgave her and asked her what on earth would have inspired such language. She said that she and a friend were talking about their pets and she remarked that her dog was really FAT! THAT was the 'F' word.... gosh I laughed!!!! It is also a great example of how our kids become very protective of us, my eldest hates the 'fat' word... she refers to people as wide instead. Bless her!

I hope you all have a wonderful day

Leanne

Feeling much better :)

Thankyou less of me and lessfatty! lessfatty you plane metaphor made me laugh so much in a good way :) I am feeling much better today, I think my freaking out was from a little bit of emotional surplus!

my tummy is rumbling a bit today (I think because I had the egg option for brekkie- the yogurt usually fills me up) but nowhere near as cranky or daft! I may actually be able to concentrate on reading a book today!

Momma Pajama, congrats on almost finishing ur first week and already being creative with ur food, it will make things alot easier for you! I only want to weigh myself monthly- I think to avoid disappointment because in the past I have worked out and dieted like any supermodel would but nothing has happened- my consultant is making me face 'the fear' fortnightly though. I reckon consider what lessfatty said- if you think disappointment will discourage you leave it for a while and get into the habit of doing it monthly or fortnightly but if not, go for it! remember that even 0.5kg off is better off then on, but I reckon you're gonna do great!

Hi,

I wanted to introduce myself and get involved. I have today contacted a Cohens Lifestyle Clinic in Brisbane and made an appointment to visit with them to discuss costs and joining etc.

Does anyone have advice on how I will feel in my first few days on the program? I've tried so many diets in the past and have given up as I was so hungry, bored and honestly kidding myself about my weight. Having suffered 3 miscarriages I have put on over 45kg and need to lose it before my husband and I even contemplate IVF again.

From other peoples experience, is this possible to lose this amount of weight on Cohens and how quickly have people lost their weight?

I would love some advice, motivation and support from people as I take on this challenge of losing 40 -50kgs.

Thanks,
Lisa

Hello, I heard of Cohen's programme yesterday. I have been fighting a losing battle with my weight for approx 20 years. Spoke to a Consultant today who will be sending me information in the mail. I have been reading all your posts today.... Congratulations, you're all doing a wonderful job, you are all very inspiring. Can anyone tell me why someone would not be approved to be on the programme? And if not what is the interim programme? Hoping to hear from you soon.

Dear Lisa Vs Weight... 40+ kg on cohens is definitely achievable.... i myself also need to lose a total of 45 kgs on cohens, which i thought was quite impossible at 1st... but after being on the program for 2 and a half mths now.... i lost almost half of the undesired weight.. and i believe it's gonna be a success... 10 weeks and a total of 20kg... i had nvr tried losing this much in my life b4... go on it , gal... u can do it~ :D

Hi

After watching my friend loose a lot of weight really quickly i have been inspired and I am interested in trying out this program. I am going to an information night in a couple of days but i had a few questions that i wanted to ask people that are actually on the diet.

My facts: age 23 weight: not quite sure since our scales are rather dodgey but id say around 70kg. Oh I have ALways been overweight (like my entire life) and i have tried a few diets here and there but i have problems on dicisplining myself .

Questions: Does the diet cater for people who have gluten (i.e wheat) and lactose (dairy products) intolerances?

For ppl who are hyperglycemic (need to eat something (just something small) every 3 hrs or they get dizzy, shaky and really grumpy!)

And does it matter if you are on the pill (contraceptive)

If any ones knows or has experience from this that would be great~!~

Thanks

Monique

oh and one more quick question

the worst thing i hear about this diet is that people when they go off the diet put the weight back on really quickly? id assume this would happen to anyone who went back to their "pre weight loss diet" has this happened to anyone and if so why?

Thanks :)

Monique

The first few days of the program you will feel bad basically, some have headaches, most are hungry, difficult to concentrate etc. But that is just the first 4 days or so, afterwards bluntly speaking I do feel a little hungry throughout the day, but not enough to be distracting, other people dont feel hungry at all, others cannot even get through all the food, so it is very dependant on the persons reaction to the foods on the program. As for boring; well I think it is kind of boring, particularly the loss of the social aspects of eating and drinking at pubs, resturants etc. No alcohol and you need to weigh and measure every single meal. Also no starches of any kind (break, rice, pasta, potatos, beans) except for some crackers.

Looking through the forum it seems that most ladies lose around 6~7KG/month after the first month, some more some less (around 4KG). I have lost 17KG in 8 weeks (I am a guy however)

It is a challenge to lose 40~50KG; my challenge is 43KG. But you just take it one day at a time improvements are made, the good news is that you start to enjoy the benefits as soon as your weight and cm's start come down.

Dr Cohen was involved in IVF and I assume he developed this diet initially to specifically help ladies such as yourself, overcome obesity to help with fertitilty.

If you want to get a taste of cohens or prepare have a quick review of a few notes about preparing for cohens I put together here.

Hi Lisa,

I've just come out of my first three days and have survived! I felt so hungry on day two but today I haven't even thought about food. I feel great!

I think we have both made a wise decision in joining up!
Cheers

Hi

Monique

If you have gluten and lactose intolerances then this program is for you!

Latose (Milk sugar): No milk at all is allowed on the program, there are options of having cheese and yogurt. Can you eat low fat yogurt? if not it doesnt matter, it is your choice if you dont want to choose to eat yogurt or cheese, there are alternatives eg. eggs etc.

Gluten (Protein on wheat and other cereal crop seeds) : No problem at all ! There are no starchy carbs, so gluten wont be a problem, you can (if you wish) eat some crackers each day (5 or 6), on my program I can eat rice crackers.

Hyperglycemia: Sugars are limited to sugars that occur in the daily fruit allowance eg apples and no other sugars are allowed. In regard to hyperglycemia; could you could pace your fruit over the day (maybe slice up a couple of apples and a slice or two ever 30minutes?. However this is something you will need to inform the consultants and your doctor for professional advise. It would be fair to say however that the diet involves lowering your blood sugar levels causing your body to start metabolisation of your fatty tissues. Actually I cannot image any diet working without this happening.

Birth Control Pill Since I am completely incapable of falling pregnant I will leave it for others to discuss! Pregancy can however result in small people blocking your view of the TV :D

Self Discipline well you will need it on the diet! it is very specific about what you can eat, how much you can eat and when you can eat it. However most on this forum (me in particular) can admit to lapses in self disapline during diets :)

If you are 70KG, you are well below the weight of most who start this program. At 23 and 70KG is a really good time to do something about it! (Generally the best time to start is now). Can you imagine waking up being nearly 40 years old and weighing 123KG? trust me you dont want that!

Thanks for the advice Lessfatty, Jayce and Louise. I'll look forward to chatting with you over the next few weeks as I get started. Lessfatty, your suggestion list is great... thanks for passing it on!

Hi Lisa,

A big welcome to the Forum, its so good to see so many new people ready to change their lives!!

Cohen's is a god send, i have said it before and i will say it again! It has made me the happiest girl and i still have 16kg's to lose.. but i am feeling fantastic and have only been on the program for 7 weeks this week.

Best of luck with everything, and dont think for a second that this is a bad idea because i can assure you.. its fantastic right down to the very last gram!!! :)

Thanks Bam, I'm looking forward to the weight loss. Can you answer a question though, have you increased your exercise/activity to assist in greater wieghtloss or not with Cohens?

Hi Lisa,

I have only done 1x 1hr walk since being on Cohen's which was last week. I am starting to walk at least 3 times a week before dinner as i am not hungry. I have alot of trouble eating (Abit funny that i have to lose weight).. But honestly i have not done any other exercise whilst being on the program.. you seriously dont need to unless you are like me and need to force yourself to get hungry in order to eat your meals.

I have been told to only do this if you arent hungry, so i am :)

The weight just drops off you, without having to exercise.. its the best program i have ever done, and i have done them all..

Saggy skin??

I've noticed that my skin sags a little then tightens. I've been thinking alot of when I get to my goal weight and if I'll have saggy skin! I know people say that you don't but I've had 4 kids and my tummy - well!

any thoughts? I'm thinking of that sexy swimsuit I'll wear this summer - if I make it by then. Today I had my day off with hubby and went to hog's breath. I did only have steak and salad - I did it last week and it had no effect, no gain of weight!! But once you start these little mishaps it's so hard to stick to it - Don't do it, resist!!! Still hoping to be finally finished by November, praying!!

Mitmary:)

Help me!

First of all a big welcome to everyone new, I am new to cohens as well and I am currently suffering the first week stinch. Like lessfatty said you will feel a bit on edge (I haven't been sleeping all that well and have been shakey and sweaty- but I have taken alot of recreational drugs in the past and I think there are alot of toxins coming out of me) but I have been told by everyone that this passes and doesn't last very long so stick it out and you'll be fine!

My housemate has come home and has brought pizza and my fav, chicken avacado- this sucks! so early on in my program I feel so tempted and hungry... and she is the junk food queen so this temptation is going to be a regular occurance I have smoked about 6 cigarettes so far because the pizza is just SITTING THERE! AAAAAAHHHH!!!!!

Some serious shopping again tomorrow I reckon- If I can't have food I'll have new things (not fat clothes though)

Hi everyone,

i was catching up on the post's at lunch time and a few people were after some different meal ideas. Like you BAM i have been having mince and cabbage alot but i remembered about mum's cabbage rolls she use to make and they were YUMMO soooooooooooo............. i made some for tea tonight and they were rather nice.

use your allowance of mince
1 whole cabbage leave cut in half - from allowance
finely diced mushroom - from allowance
" " tomato - " "
zucchini - grated - " "
garlic
mixed herbs
diet sprite

mix together and divide into 2 patties
brown on both sides
microwave the cabbage leaves for about 20-30 seconds
wrap patties in cabbage leaves with a dash of balsamic vinegar
put in oven 180" for about 15-20 mins

Next i will try it with chicken mince

Netski - congrats on your wonderful accomplishment. it is certainly an inspiration for me to get to the end. Has there been any foods that you have not been able to introduce. ie pasta, spuds chocolate:D

Tomorrow is a day closer to our goals - hope it is a good one for us all:)
