Private Health Fund

Hi,

I was told by the Cohen's clinic I have been speaking to that some health funds, including Medibank Pvt and MBF, recognise the Cohen's program as a claimable service. Medibank Pvt however has told me that they only pay for consultations with recognised Dieticians. Has anyone been able to claim some of their program through a private health fund?

Trish

Hi Trish,
I couldn't claim Cohens on my private health insurance. My cover (HCF) only pays for private dieaticians and will contribute $100 towards weight watchers.

Neither appealed to me and I decided to stick with this diet.

I'd be interested in hearing if anyone was able to claim too.

I have been to my very first weigh in today it was both scary and exciting well i jumped on the scales and did not look. Once seated i asked what i had lost 6.4kg:):) Very excited but have a lot more to go! It has not been a hard week so lets hope the following weeks have this much of a positive outcome.
At the moment my famly, mum, dad, bro are eatting stir fry with noodles it smells yum yum yum but i am happy hear typing mind you my brother did say calories can fly, thank goddness for us all this is not true :)

Casey- WELL DONE!!! 6.4kg is brilliant! Congratulations! :D Keep strong- the yummy food smells are torture...

For anyone that has struggled with the yoghurt- I have started eating yoghurt in the mornings with half a baked apple and it is YUMMY! I chop up the half apple into chunks and slightly overcook it in the microwave it. I add a splash of diet lemonade to the yoghurt and mix, add cooked apple and sprinkle with cinnamon and a pich of ground ginger. I have enjoyed this so much I have eaten it for brekky the last few days!

No weightloss for me this weekend, I'm stuck again. But thats ok- I know with me it will take time.

Hope everyone is going well.
Nat:)

WELL DONE CASEY. keep up the great work.

How is everyone's christmas goal going............. I'm only 1 kg away from mine then i will start my second goal of 117kg's by Christmas. ( I know I can do it.)

If anyone has Yahoo messanger and would like to chat email me on tasmonty_au@yahoo.com.au with your user ID and I will add you so we can chat if it get tough.

if you would like, if there are a couple of people on yahoo we can have a conference I can arrange it if you would like and we can all talk together. Like a chat room.

chez gets on yahoo and has a chat with me when she feels like having something bad. you are all welcome to do the same.

WHERE ARE YOU KIM?

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ALL AND WELCOME TO THE NEW LADIES.

Hi Everyone,

CASEY - WOW 6.4kg. That is amazing. Well Done!:D With a week and a half to christmas who knows what you will lose. I bet your glad you started now and didn't wait!

DIVINEMISSNAT - I think the two of us are in the same boat. I have been stuck on my weight for almost 3 weeks now.
I have ben having eggs for breaky, but was worried about the cholesterol factor and have switched to yogurt. I use Tamar Valley yogurt which actually is not too bad for natural yogurt - it's quite creamy, but I will definately try your suggestion for breaky tommorow. I find the amount of yogurt difficult. I would never eat this amount normally.

TRISH - One of the ladies at my clinic was suffering from 'pattern baldness' before cohens. I saw her before and after photos. Apart from losing a signidficant amount of weight - she had regrown tufts of hair and the growth was expected to continue.

the weekend from HELL!

Ladies, ladies, ladies ... it appears that the closer you get to Xmas the harder life gets on Cohens.

Well it has for me!

I had 4 BBQ's and 2 dinners from Friday night to Sunday afternoon, I had my mum arrive (for those of you who recall, she is getting over a breast cancer OP) and I also had a major project that I have been working on for 12 months launch Saturday and Sunday, so I was flat chat trying to balance my days.

I not only fell off the BL@@DY wagon, I crawled around under it for a while!

I haven't had so many ppl (family and BF included) NOT help AT ALL, they were like drug pushers, not once did they say hey Cryss come on have a bit of cake, BUT, they did put it all in front of me, they said things like "oh this is soooooooo nice Cryss, you must miss eating food like this" .. I mean for gods sake, with family like this who needs enemies! And my mere male didn't help with his bloody cheese platter last night and steak sandwich when we got home! Lucky all the knives were in the drawer!

So this morning, I reluctantly hopped on the scales to see the bad news! nothing, nothing ON nothing OFF, this time god let me off I think. So I have vowed that come hell or high water, I refuse to let anyone else control my emotions and make me feel like I have to do anything, I am no longer a fat pig who eats everything they see. I am in control and I am changing who I am and what I eat.

I mean I fitted into a size 20, from a 26 in 8 weeks! 15.9kg lost in 8 weeks. That’s really good and I'm not going to drop the ball now because of some selfish family members.

So, as of Monday 12th Dec 2005 (today), I have my new year’s resolution early. I'm in for the long haul, and Mel, watch out baby because here I come!

Now, post my confession, it's time for some congratulations and welcomes I see!

CASEY! 6.4kg, do you realise how much that is? go get 6 and half packets of sugar pop em in a back pack and carry them around! That is fantastic work, you should be really proud of yourself!

MONI! What can I say, you are setting the pace for us, moving onto your second mini goal? You are an inspiration to us all. I'm in the middle of writing something special for you, but I think it will be out of date by the time I finish it! Damn you, slow down ;)

Raj! I hear you party pain, damn the person that invented Parties, Party Pies, Fairy Bread, Cheese and Crackers and fried onions. The devil is responsible for all of them!

Pip! Get back on, come join the party (did I say Party? I must be nuts!) I meant come join us in our weight loss journey! We are ALL really healthy women trying to get out of really unhealthy bodies, and we are doing it together one step at a time!

Chez! As you can see I was crushed by a wagon of bad food, but I am back and in da house!

Standard offer girls; need any pics resizing or need some help editing a big one to small, send to cryss1@bigpond.com

ok I'm off to dream of size 10 jeans.

btw: Mel the T-shirts are GO! I'm very excited!

COME ON LADIES....... TODAY IS A NEW DAY....... 12 SLEEPS TILL SANTA COMES....... WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TODAY TO MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOUR SELF TOMORROW???????

Hi everyone.

Casey, fantastic loss! Congratulations! With my weight loss, I was quite lucky and I think it fell off quite evenly off me. But it happened in stages - bust first, then waist, hips, thighs and last of all arms!

Cryss, bit of a bummer about the weekend but at least your weight stayed the same. I imagine you have crawled out from under the wagon and you're back on track for the week. 15.9kg in 8 weeks is brilliant!

Moni, you are doing fabulously and I'm sure you'll be reaching your second goal by xmas.

Kaseysmum, I come from a maltese background too so I know what you mean about the family and food!

Myshy, you did very well at your function and at least now you haven't got any more to go to before xmas.

The guidelines for "life after the program" are:

Stay on low fat products. Have only one piece of fruit a day. Eat dessert within 1 hour of eating carbs as this stops the starch from being converted into fat. If you don't eat carbs with your meal, don't have dessert. Best dessert is dark choc mousse or a plain, heavy baked cheesecake. The cheese blokes the surge of insulin and won't trigger the "fat factory". If you want chocolate, follow the same rules as dessert. Dark choc is more preferable to milk choc. No carbs for breakfast and limit carbs to one meal a day. If drinking alcohol, have a piece of cheese half an hour before you have a drink. The best fast food combination is a Greek or Italian salad and any protein such as spare ribs, burger or a pie. Canola or Olive Oil for cooking. Continue drinking 8 -12 glasses of water a day. If you over indulge, eliminate carbs for 48 hours. Incorporate half hour of exercise per day.

Have a great week and stay focused! Lisa:D

Good evening to everyone! Go Casey well done the first loss is the fastest but what a loss im only 7.3kg in 17 days. Lisa "KIFINTI" Hello in Maltese thats all i know and a couple of swear words.ha ha. Oh do you like the baked macaroni and pastitsi's? I dont miss it too much cos my Nan made the best food and she isnt here anymore.
Cryss dont feel bad its a test and you didnt put on any weight so forward you go, everyone has these moments I didnt cope well with some stress too well last week and ate 3 freddo's so i thought no use feeling guilty about it its done and over with and tomorrows a new day and since then i've been 100% focused, I talk to Moni on yahoo messenger and just keep really busy everyday cos im a stay at home mum.

End of Day 4

Hi there girls, have survived to the end of Day 4...am finding I have to be super focussed and organised especially in the mornings, but I am getting there and so far no mistakes...I have developed super sensitivity to food smells, even for things like tomato sauce and toast!!! I have got a bit obsessed with the scales (the people ones) and jump on every morning to make sure it is all working...it is pretty reassuring so far as I am losing weight steadily. I think I should stop though as I would get pretty disheartened if it went up for any reason.
You are all just doing fantastically well, especially for this time of year. I have only had to resist temptation for 4 short days, so I think you all deserve a big pat on the back, as it is not easy, especially if the yummy food is right under your nose.
And Chryss – I loved your little cartoon of falling off the wagon and under it – priceless!!

Hi Lady’s, wow, I haven’t been on for a week or so and it has taken me a couple of hours to sit down and read through all the pages. I must admit I enjoyed every single word. Sorry for the long posting but just wanted to let you all know I haven’t forgotten any of you….Need to tell you all about a new yoghurt that’s hit the shelves, well I have just found it anyway. It’s the Yoplait NO FAT 70% less sugar thick & creamy. It actually contains less of everything that the natural yoghurt that Cohen’s suggests. I am now just having one of them for lunch, there is 200g in a tub but I know we are only allowed 175g. Now I have personally scraped it out of its packaging and it the net weight of the yoghurt is 187g (ripped off by packaging again) but any way if you just have one of those for your yoghurt allowance, no need to have the fruit as you can get it flavoured, it is just great and only 80cals per tub. I couldn’t believe my eyes the other day when I was reading the contents of it in the supermarket, so bought it, tried it over the last 3 days and it has not affected my weight loss, if anything I have even lost a little more by having it. It has an apple green label, don’t be scared to try it…..

Did anyone read the posting from the new girl ROS on 10 December SMH. All I can say is there is always someone out there to can something because it works. Dr. Michael Booth is a sceptic and probably because he isn’t the one who designed this program. Well Dr. it does work and people don’t get sick from doing it. I suggest you analysis it just in a little more depth before you comment. It is definitely helping people and if you should happen to read this and wish to contact me please do because I have every single gram of every meal recorded and broken down into individual grams so you can actually see it is for one healthy and the body is not be starved.
ROS: It does work, no doubt regardless of what Dr. Michael Booth has to say.

KASEYSMUM: Congratulations for hitting the 80’s, you must be feeling fantastic. Well done. OH my god “DADDY’S GOT EGGS” that is an absolute classic. Don’t children come out with the most amazing things. Kaseysmum, how much weight have you lost now from start to finish.

CRYSS: Wow, 600g in one day is fabulous, isn’t it just the best feeling. Yes, good thinking about putting the Cohen’s clinic info in our details so we know where each other is that way hopefully some of us can meet. 4kg is great don’t you dare feel bad about it….I want you to promise to do something for me, next time you go to the supermarket go to the section that sells all the different oils and then look for a 1 litre bottle, stop in front of them and look at the clear yellow liquid in one of them, not look at 4 of them and just think that is how much fat has come out of your body in the last month, 4 litres of fat, believe me you will walk away feeling good about yourself. When I go in now I look at the 4 litre bottles and then look at 5 of them and think my god that is how much fat my body use to have in it, it is a great way to judge just how much fat you are loosing.

HEALTHYMUM: Your posting on the 7 December is excellent. You definitely have it worked out and I know you won’t break it, if you do you are going to let yourself down. You are not selfish, the way I understand that posting is that you know yourself and you have to know yourself before you can know anyone else. I know myself inside out which I think is a good thing. When I started this program back on the 3 October, I said that was it and I AM GOING TO STICK TO IT. Once I have my mind set nothing will break it and I guess the proof is in the pudding as they say, or should I say in the weight loss 72 days, haven’t broken by 1 milligram, and now down 21.8 kgs. You have to have your mind focused on other things in life because our diet plan is there and all we have to do is follow it, to me that is the easy part because we don’t even have to think about it, so why break it. Congratulations on what you wrote, just great……

CASEY: I actually have beetroot. Yesterday I made a European dish for lunch, Beetroot Soup, I guess you have to like things like that but it was absolutely beautiful, and it did not effect my weight at all. I have checked the calorie content in it and it has less carbs and more fibre than say cabbage. I guarantee you it can not hurt. I really think they just put those vegies down on our plan so we don’t have too much choice, I disagree with this as long as you aren’t having starchy vegies like corn, peas, pumpkin etc. then it’s o.k. Also I don’t follow their rules on the tomato and onion bit either, I have as much of either of them in any of the meals I want. So for example if there was say 100g of vegies with the meat and if I feel like 100g of just tomato, I have it. Once again, it doesn’t matter but it does make thinks a lot easier on the diet plan as there is enough to worry about by just weighing everything.

MONI: WOW, 20kgs in 6 weeks, you are a champion…….You have made me go all goose bumps….That is just great…..2kg’s Moni, by the time I get around to posting this you will probably be there….

RAJAH: The more water you drink the more fat you flush out, you get use to it, just down those bottles either before or after you eat and then just have another in-between and before you know it you are over your quota and the rest is a bonus…..Re weigh ins with Cohen’s, mine is monthly but I just email them my weight loss, can’t be bothered wasting time to go in for 5 minutes and jump on the scales, the next time they see me will be for my re-feed. Also try Safeway or I am pretty sure it is called Woolworths in other states outside Victoria. They have some great ones for under $30.00

MYSHY: My mother has type 2 diabetes as well and my beautiful father who just passed away a few months ago had renal failure, so yes, I have to watch it too. I guess sitting in hospitals for month beforehand and going into dialysis seeing all the people on machines just to strip their bodies of fluid was an absolute eye opener also with mum she has already had one leg amputated and I am back in hospital today with her so she can have an angioplasty done on the other leg as the blood has bad circulation in it and we are hoping to save that one before the same thing happens. God, we just have to look at these aspects and by being thinner we are definitely eliminating these problems for our own benefits. We have to do it while we are young so when our body’s are older they don’t have to try to cope with that type of stress on them. Re posting on Cohen’s consultants, I personally couldn’t agree with you more, I think they are useless as well, that is why I don’t even bother going in, just email them my monthly weight loss and get the blood results sent directly to them via mail. Will only go back for my re-feed. In the past when I have asked them questions they seam to find a way not to answer them and just by pass it. I am going to do a search on the broccoli and HGH today, that is interesting, I’ll let you know if it is true or not.

PERTHMUM: Are you starting on Friday 16 December. If so that’s great. Just remember to stick to it religiously and it works. Yes, I use to love a glass or 2 of wine of a night but have not had a drink for 72 days now, it was hard when I first started as I liked that relaxing feeling at the end of the day but you do get use to not having those useless calories, I’ll never do it again. Once I am on re-feed I will have a glass or 2 on a Saturday night with dinner and then that will be it for the week. Tim Tams, forget them for now every time you look at one of them think of them of a little slab of fat and then visualise one of them stuck on your bum, hum, a nice little lump, no way you don’t need them…..Just continuing to read through the forum and I can see you must have started on Friday 9 December, how are you going….

IMR: CONGRATULATIONS, you are the inspiration of this forum. I do hope you don’t leave us all now, you’re the best and we all want to keep hearing from you. How do you feel now and did the re-feed work as well as they said it was. Was the 61kgs your goal weight? Wow, your pictures are great, you have done so well, congratulations….

MYSHY: Wow, what an EGO boost. Believe it or not that feeling actually been proven to effects your hormones which enhance weight loss, it’s true, what a star, that’s just great…..Also with the tea, I only fill half the cup up with water, let it sit in it for about half an hour, stir it and gently squeeze the bag or else it breaks, and then just scull it, it’s only a couple of gulps then but worth it every morning, you’ll see, even if you hate it just drink it down fast, it really works a treat. God, next thing you have teenagers looking at you, I told you earlier on in the thread you look great and you obviously do, this has confirmed it..…..

TRISH: Welcome to the forum. It has not lost any hair at all so I would not make that a concern. As the diet is extremely healthy eating it will probably help more than anything else. When I was thinking about it in October I got on the forum and asked exactly the same question and someone said to me it will be the best money you could ever spend on yourself, they were right, it is excellent, don’t be afraid, it’s the best and it works. Give yourself a Christmas present and this time next year you will be well and truly down by 50kgs and feeling fantastic. JUST DO IT.

RJM: That is inspiring, thanks for letting us know that, you have done so well. How long did it take you to loose the weight and how much did you end up loosing and what do you weigh now?

BARBARA: Welcome, Go for it, were are all here to help each other…..

SMH thread

Hi girls,

At my last visit to the clinic I mentioned this forum, the consultant was very agitated when I mentioned we discussed our program etc. She then went on to tell me about someplace called "The Lounge" and that the Dr Cohen discussion got so out of hand that they ended up shutting it down.

I would like to say on behalf of myself and hopefully the rest of you who are actively on Cohens or have been.

That this program works, it works well, I am fitter and healthier and have more energy that I have ever had on Weight Watchers, Atkins, Slimming Tablets, Ultra Slim, Nutra Slim, Jenny Craig and god knows how many others I have tried.

My concern is that if we start allowing this discussion as to weather it works or it doesn't to start in this forum, that we will open ourselves up to others out there on the net who have a strong opinion about the program, maybe they didn't stick to it, and you know how people are if they spend alot of money, and waste it because they didn't stick to something they then blame the program and not themsleves. I would hate to see what for me is a vital component of my weight loss journey, turn into a fighting match, full of negativity and abuse. I have seen many other forums where people are mean and nasty to each other. I'd be lost if that ever happened here and I couldn't bear to post to such a forum.

My suggestion is that we pay no heed to people who may come on and might want to start "discussing" the pros and cons of the program. Lets continue as we have been, looking at the positives and supporting each other.

I hope I haven't offened any of the new commers, or those with questions, questions are great! I just don't think we are interested in hearing about what some Dr, who doesn't really know what he is talking about from the perspective of someone who has tried it has to say.

Girls I would be interested in your thoughts on this, as I am very passionate about not losing the integrity of this support forum.

Yes I agree on ignoring the negative comments cos I saw what happened on the lounge and it wasnt pretty. Negative thoughts or doubt doesnt make for good weightloss, so lets all stick together and keep this positive flow going and I know Joysey was a bit p@#$ed off but she doesnt want any negative posters either she knows how fantastic and fast this diet works and wants us all to succeed too. So lets focus on our xmas goals and beyond and feel good about ourselves and what we are doing as we are all strong individuals and can do this. Thats my two bobs worth and I'd also like to THANK CRYSS again for helping me with my photo you are a champion!!! I have to tell you all before I go the delivery guy called me LOVE yesterday dont you just hate that or Darl cant stand it makes my blood boil. Goodnite and sweetdreams everyone. Hugs Chez

Hi everyone,

Yes Cryss, I agree with you. I also followed the forum in "The Lounge" and it turned out very nasty. You hit the nail on the head when you say people don't succeed and they blame the program rather than themselves. They get very negative and nasty and personal to the successful ones. But here we all seem to be very supportive and encouraging of each other. This is a friendly place and will continue to be. I'm here for the long haul and wish everyone great success at reaching our goals.

Moni, I don't think you have blown it as you are firmly on track. I hope you enjoyed your meal. Today is a new day and focus on what you have achieved so far in so little time not on something negative. Cheers.

Have a great week everyone.

Moni,

don't be too hard on yourself, not like you went and ate a cake or something!

you see tomorrow you will be fine, I'll be suprised if it impacts your weight loss at all. Keep up the great work and the fab words of encouragement.

ok now: I jusat went to the supermarket and bought the following items, please note I have as yet not consumed either.

Nerada Iced Tea Lemon and Lime flavour AND Yoplait plain Vanilla Yoghurt No Fat 70% less sugar.

Now can I please have a show of hands that these two items are ok to use. Mel and I have been playing tag on the Tea and I'm still not sure I bought the right one!

My scales are telling me I have lost, but can anyone tell me (maybe those of you who are near the end of your journey) signs that the Human Growth Hormone has made a difference to your weight loss. Like does anyone know what the signs are, does it appear in our blood tests?

Hello to everyone!

Firstly I would like to say that I too agree with you Cryss. This forum is so supportive and way too important in the journey we are all on. I personally feel no need to argue a point with anyone about Cohen's. As I see it each and every individual is free to make choices about their body and health. We have all made our choices and are living proof that the program works.
I do not want to encourage trouble-makers.

On a lighter note, I'd like to let you all know that today I survived torture... That's right- due to Christmas Shopping I had to enter Haigh's, enemy of all dieters... That chocolate smell hits you the minute you open the door- and I hadnt had lunch yet. I did buy a little something for myself but it is for Christmas Day. So yes, I have chocolate in the house, have just got my period (usual choc fest time) and I HAVE NOT TOUCHED IT! Hooray for small miracles!

Moni- dont dwell on tonights deviation from the diet. Tomorrow is a new day. You've been doing so well it probably wont even make a difference. I know you'll still blitz your Christmas goal! As for mine, I dont think I'm gonna make it. Probably end up 2kg away from my goal. However, I am happy in the knowledge that I am losing, and people are noticing and that might just have to be enough.

Cryss- I would be very careful with those foods!!!!! Most packaged and flavoured teas have sugar in them and I'm 99% sure that one does too. We are not allowed sugar or even sweeteners derived from sugar. And if the yoghurt is 70% less sugar what about the other 30%? READ THE LABEL VERY CAREFULLY before you consume them as it could be very detrimental.
I dont know what they look for in the blood with the HGH but I will have a bit of a browse on the net tonight see if I can find anything.

Take care everyone!
Nat:)
