Cate's Diary

Having a likable doctor who takes you seriously and thinks along is so important. I love how enthusiastic you are about the music event!

but boy am I tired this morning. Maybe I have come down off my high from the show.
I always need recovery time after big excitement like that!
Great about having a doctor you get on well with!

We go through so many doctors at our local practice unfortunately but I really hope she sticks around. They sponsor doctors & they stay for a couple of years & then move on usually. 🤞
I still feel thrilled about the show, LaMa :)

I also still feel really tired, Liza, but I made myself go for 2 good walks yesterday & slept like a log again last night. I must get out in the garden today! It's a bit early to plant seedlings, but I think I'll plant out some seeds, maybe spinach.

2 walks! Awesome! How many kms? Spending time in the garden is indeed delightful

Ah that wonderful feeling at the beginning of the garden season!
I know! What to plant, what to plant.....leaving room for tomatoes next month :)

My walks are usually only about 2 km but it's really hilly where I live & it gets my heart rate up. The hill back to our home is very steep! I don't worry so much about trying to get x number of steps every day but make sure I get out & walk twice a day. Thanks for visiting my diary, Mariana. I really love it when new members (& old) get around other people's diaries. It helps build a sense of community & inclusiveness.

I am struggling to log my food & drink still. I must try harder. G will be away from Sunday for a week & it will be easier to keep within my calories.

Logging is one of the few weightloss strategies that have been proven to work, statistically, and yet I find it hard to commit to as well. Sometimes I think it's because I don't want accountability: much easier to ignore my treats and slip-ups if I don't write them down. A bit like weighing, only weighing myself takes less time so I don't really have an excuse.

haha yeah I often fill up my garden before the warmer veggies are ready to plant--good to save some space for them!
am struggling to log my food & drink still.
I think I'm finally back into the habit now, but yeah I found that really hard to get back into for the first few weeks of trying!

I love the planning part of gardening so much, too. I really need to get back to logging, as well. I love that time period between the 50s and the 60s where folk rock is just starting to find its rhythm. That singer has a wonderful voice! Glad you are making nice plans for when G is out of town.

Two walks a day is great, particularly if there is a hill involved.

Home grown veg is fab and it tastes so good. Dad always picks blackberries this time of year and they are lovely. You can actually feel the nutrients from them - same with anything we grow in the garden.

Thanks, Llama, Liza, Marsia, Em (& Vic) :grouphug:
I think I need to log my food & drink before I have it. I did that yesterday & stuck to it. I did well on Tuesday while G was away most of the day & didn't snack at all so think I'll be good next week while he's away.
I dropped some things off at the museum yesterday & asked where my friend J was & apparently she's broken her hip & is in hospital. I'll call her today.
I also dropped 2 bags of stuff at the op shop. I keep decluttering.
I think I'll plant most of the herbs in pots. I do need some bigger plastic ones.

I have said that I will play golf with our social golf group in a couple of weeks' time as it's at our local course. I haven't had a game in 2 years. I really should go out & have a hit this week. It would mean leaving Archie home on his own inside the house though so I may just visit the women this week & then go out for a hit the week after.

Ouch on your friend J's hip; I hope it heals well. Decluttering is always good though. The golf club should have a doggy daycare attached!

Oh dear :( Hope your friend is ok.
Yay to decluttering!--I also need to get back to that--I was doing so well for a while and then I seemed to stop...will get back to it!

She has to have an operation, unfortunately. I continue to declutter. It's good if you can find a happy home for things. Doggy daycare is sadly lacking in most places I'm afraid. Where it is it is costly.

She was very chirpy. We had a good laugh on the phone. I'll visit her on Monday.
I will keep up my decluttering so that when the day comes that we want or have to move it will be a lot less stressful.

I kept to within my calories yesterday (just) & got some gardening in. I think I'll fish out my strength training exercises & have a go today. I have an unplanned stay-at-home day as it's raining.

Yay for decluttering and gardening! It's been raining here, too, and some of my peas are up already. I like the idea of herbs in pots so they don't take over a bed and have enough room just for them. I think I'll borrow that idea. Glad your friend is feeling chipper after such a bad break. Really good idea to log the food before eating it. I think that could be the thing that makes me stick to logging. Please remind me to do this if I forget!!

I like the herbs in pots as we can pick them from the decking outside our dining room, as they're so handy. I also want to keep the small yard clearer so I can see any snakes that might appear this summer. My friend J has a great sense of humour & is a very strong person. Both of her sons have died in the last few years- one from cancer, the other from suicide. I really admire her. She can laugh & she can cry & she volunteers & keeps on going.
Logging early helps me. I just went & logged today's food. G is going away this afternoon for a week. Let's see if I can lose some weight! I'll mention it each morning in my diary to make sure I do it too :)
That's good to hear she can enjoy a laugh :)
She is amazing. She's also not afraid to cry.

I had a really lazy day yesterday. It rained for most of the day here & I read a book. I really enjoyed it, but being so lazy isn't good for me on a regular basis. I need to get out of the house every second day I have decided, so Mon, Wed & Friday are going to be my days for getting out & about & I'll go to my local town or further afield if I can be inspired.
I'll go for a decent walk this morning as G can come to pick me up when I have walked as far as I can. I'll miss that. It's harder deciding how far to go. I think while he's gone I'll park the car halfway along my usual route, which gives me some options to extend the walk or not.

Wow, that's awful. And admirable indeed.
Thinking ahead about how you can walk a bit further safely is great. Some inclines would probably be good as well, for strength, but if your hill is quite steep I can see that being a problem. What I tell my patients when they're first starting to practice on the stairs again is to do the first step several times rather than try the whole flight of stairs in one go and risk getting stuck halfway. Maybe that's something you can adapt?

She has had a rough trot, Llama, but is amazing.
I have walked our steep hill a few times in the last few weeks & each time my knee has ended up hurting like crazy. The rest of my walking is hilly. It's all up & down, but just not as steep as our drive. I'll just steer clear of it I think. Walking down it is hard enough.

G has headed off this afternoon, for a week. I got in a 2nd longer walk this afternoon & almost had a 3rd even longer one as he was about to head off with his buddies with our car key in his pocket. Luckily I noticed before they drove off-just! I don't mind having a week on my own.
I am going to alternate days going somewhere/staying at home.

She sounds like an amazing woman. Nice you will get a visit in with her soon.
I hope you find a good solution for getting your walks in without doing your knee any kind of further damage. So hard when one has to work around injuries! I guess that is something you'll have to watch for if you do decide to give golf another go as well?
