Cate's Diary

Hi, LaMa, Liza, Rob, Petal & anyone else reading my diary.
Oh, I so hate those crocheted doilies, LaMa. They would be so out of place in our house, with its chunky furniture & rock walls. That made me smile. I'm not a neat freak, by any means.
I rearranged & am sitting in G's old recliner. It's shabby, but so much better for my back & shoulders. I will get some covers for the arms as they are shiny where they should be suede-like. G says he likes the new chairs to sit in, but he looks like he's sitting on a bus. The new arrangement got the nod of approval from our son & the kids. Our living room is now much more conducive to sitting around together with extended family.
We had a lovely evening with them last night & Archie took turns sitting on everyone's lap. There was no aggression or nerves with C, our younger GS at all. We had some lovely conversations. One thing that stood out was E, our GD saying how everything seems so different now (with C19) but she loves how up here still is the same. She said she loves the quiet. D, our son said it felt almost like a mini holiday. I keep their room set up for them & had put out towels in their rooms & given them a spring clean, put the heaters on etc & had the rooms looking really nice. E had said last week that our house had not felt right without a dog. It is just how we want them to feel. So many things change in their lives, but we want them to feel that this place & the two of us are dependable & solid.

Sounds like you had a wonderful evening and provide a place of sanctuary for your son and grandkids. That's amazing Cate. The way you set up their rooms for them sounds just lovely.

Thanks, Em. I know how important it was to me as a child & life is so different now with broken homes & new relationships etc. It's 9.34 & the kids are still in their room & their Dad has gone to work. We had breakfast with him at 7.30. When they appear G will cook them scrambled eggs on toast. It's raining now but we may still go for a drive. They brought their ukeleles with them & have been practising during the week. I'm glad they like them. It will be fun to hear them strumming. D will stay here again tonight with them. It's a good way of him giving them more attention than if they stayed at his partner's house. Tomorrow we will leave them here and leave early as we are meant to be playing golf.

Oh that all sounds so nice for all of you--lovely family gathering, rooms all nicely made up, ukuleles strumming, egg on toast.
How lovely that you can be a good place of stability, warmth and welcome Cate!

Thanks, Liza. It really does feel nice. It's not nice outside though, but we're going to go for a drive just to break up the day.

:) I didn't have you pegged as a lace doilie kind of person but the idea did amuse me. Your family time sounds lovely and it's great that Archie was able to relax around C already.

Cate sounds like a wonderful weekend is being had with the Grandkids . They are very lucky and so are you . Enjoy the golf

Petal-It has been just lovely & also hilarious. I'll tell you about it when we get home. Off to golf shortly!

I had a wonderful weekend with our son & the GK's, topped off by a fun day at golf yesterday in the mud. It was a really tough slog. I ended up covered in mud after pushing a cart that was bogged, for the 3rd time. I injured my right hand when I had almost completed the round of 18 holes & am in pain when I attempt to type. I jarred it badly & am having trouble closing my hand. It's mainly the middle finger, which I have obviously sprained as I can hardly bend it. We really had a fun day though & my whole weekend was lots of fun.
Please excuse my brief foray into the forum for a couple of days. I'll remove some spam as I can do that on my phone with one finger.

It's a little better thanks, LaMa, Petal & 101. It's not broken & I have a bit less pain & a bit more flexibility this morning. Am on my laptop, typing with my left hand & my 4th finger on my right hand. I'll read all the diaries/new posts, but won't say much xo

Oh dear--too bad about the sprained finger--glad it's feeling a little better at least.
Lovely that you had a great weekend with your son and grandkids :)

If it's getting a little better already things aren't looking too bad. You're very right to favor it for a while.

Thanks, Liza & LaMa. I think it will come right in a few days, but I won't attempt to play golf for me a week.
Just got back from a walk with Arch & G & I had a leech on me as I took my boots off. It didn't get a chance to attach

I´d expect you to have more leeches in the warmer part of the year. Or does it get too dry then?
