Hidden in that comment was this:

Hypothetically, lets say this "same person in the car pic" (or someone similar for that matter) posted a pic of herself on this forum "as a new member", saying something hypothetically like: "This is me after losing 20 pounds!" Don't I look great!" "I am so proud of myself."

Most of the comments people get from forum members when someone is new and post this sort of thing, are very encouraging and positive; however, it does logically point to the "honesty and validity" of "some" members posting the encouraging and positive comments, does it not? :)

The girl is not attractive, but the guys on that original thread are assholes for dogging her. I think here it isn't so bad because the OP or the girl aren't present

If I don't mean it, I don't say it.

It's one thing to encourage a person to continue on a path that will benefit them, and to applaud their efforts. It's another thing altogether to outright lie and tell somebody they look great when they don't. That's not really fair.

Basically, I'm too German. If somebody asks me "Does my ass look fat in these jeans?" if it looks fat, I'm going to say "Yes, your ass looks fat in those jeans. You might want to wear something else that looks better on you." If a person wants an honest opinion, they'll definitely get it from me ;) So when I say something nice, people know it's genuine.

My experience has been that people who beg for compliments are either (A) grossly lacking in self-esteem, or (B) are just attention whores.
 
If a person posts about them losing weight, and they were ugly, but had lost weight, then I could compliment them on their weight loss.
 
Come on people be nice. Not everyone was blessed with our good looks :D

Treat others as you would have them treat you. Ring a bell?

You mean "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?"

That only works in a perfect world. And this world is far from it. North American society revolves around Perfect 10s. It's very different from Europe. Actually, it's very different from anywhere else in the world. It's a tough continent to live on, especially if you're not a 10.

I don't think it does at all. I could compliment someone on their weight loss without having to think that they look pretty.
 
Who's a hypocrite here? There is no hypocracy in me saying she's ugly. The fact is that girl was ugly. I'd be lying if I didn't say that she was. That doesn't mean she isn't a nice person, but there is no way anybody can ascertain that from the photos, is there?

All I can say is that she shouldn't quit her day job because she'd never make it as a model. And neither would the other 98% of society. How is that hypocritical?
