Weight-Loss Beer

Weight-Loss
Yeaaaaaah but being the only sober one at a party gets boring, and always helping the drunken ones that don't know when to stop...

I don't think vodka has fat. It's just calories. "Although alcohol itself doesn’t contain fat, it is packed with calories. And when you add in mixers – juice, sugar and other ingredients – the calories really can add up."

I've always used diet coke for a chaser. But I'm guilty of liking the fruity mixed drinks when I go out to the bars, and since I'm known for my high tolerance and ability to outdrink almost anybody (including my 26y/o 6'1" 240lb brother) I'm certainly not getting drunk off of two drinks.

It's a good thing I don't go to bars often or I wouldn't be losing any weight.

Dehydration

the process thats going on for your weight loss is dehydration..so be careful and have food when you are hammered..it seriously damages your health after some years...

What is the lightest Beer?

I wasn't sure where to put this but...
I go out on the weekend with friends and I have a few beers. Does anyone know what the lowest calorie beer would be? I drink Bud Light right now.
Thank you :)

I'm sure i've said it in this thread at least once...

I never drink anything that's the same color going in as it is going out...

Drink a beer that will satisfy you... 2 guinnesses or better beers might be far more satisfying and you'll drink them slower than 12 bud lights...

Lowest calorie is meaningless if the calories don't do anything for you

I'm a big fan of beer. That means that I don't like the light beers, but Bud light, Amstel and most of the light beer have 95 cal. Coors light has 102. Guinness Draught has 125. For the extra 30 cal, I'll go for the real thing, myself.

By far it's Beck's Light. It has 64 cals / 12 oz.

If you what low cal regular beer I believe Guinness is the best and low carb.

Actually, health research reveals that drinking beer regularly (and moderately) - one to two 12 ounce glasses per day for men and one for women - can actually improve your health! Awesome!

Beer is made by brewing and fermenting starches, generally from cereal grains (most commonly malted barley, although wheat, corn, and rice are also used). The majority of beer is flavored with hops, adding bitterness and functioning as a natural preservative; other flavorings are also included in beer such as herbs or fruit. So that's all good stuff, right?

Well, the stand out here is hops. The cone-shaped hops flower is a significant source of compounds called polyphenols that are known to lower cholesterol, kill viruses, and fight cancer. Due to high hops content, Pale Ales have the most pronounced health benefit in this regard. Other benefits include a decreased risk of cardiac stroke and cognitive decline, strengthened bones, reduced stress, and an increase in good cholesterol (HDL). In addition, some beers contain significant amounts of nutrients, including magnesium, selenium, potassium, phosphorus, biotin, and B vitamins. However, this applies more to hand-crafted microbrews, as most widely-produced (ahem.. filtered and watered-down) beer loses much of its nutrition.

The drinking of beer, however, is a bit of a double-edged sword. Frequent drinking in moderation may protect men from death due to cardiovascular disease. Men who reported drinking 120 to 365 days a year had a 20% lower cardiovascular death rate than those who drank one to 36 days a year. BUT DON'T GET TOO EXCITED! Drinking too much beer can have the opposite effect on health. Specifically, men who drank five or more drinks encountered a 30% greater risk of dying from heart disease. Additionally, the long-term effects of alcohol abuse, include the risk of developing alcoholism and liver disease.

So the key, once again, is moderation! Send me a note if you want to talk about beer, wellness, or anything health related!

That's a good point - the calories of a specific beer are less important than the QUANTITY you consume. Despite all of the slick marketing by hardbodies on TV, light and low-carb beer might not be the best option if you want to transform your beer belly into a six pack. The reason: most people drink more light beer than they would regular beer because they feel "less guilty"! Light and low-carb beers are only beneficial if you don't consume more than you would regular beer.

The vast majority of calories in beer come from the alcohol, so when a beer maker reduces the calories in a beer the first thing to go is the alcohol. So drinking light beer is a bit pointless in that regard, as many people consider the "buzz" the main reason for drinking beer instead of seltzer water (although some light beers are pretty darn close to seltzer in my humble opinion). Here are some numbers:

Miller Genuine Draft has 5% alcohol and 143 calories.
Miller Genuine Draft 64 has 2.8% alcohol and 64 calories.

So Miller 64 has roughly half the calories, but also about half the alcohol. And it's the same price! So if you're one of the majority of people who drink more light beer than you would regular, then you're paying somewhere around DOUBLE for the Miller 64. In other words, you're paying more for less. Sounds like a pretty good deal. For Miller.

Not that light beers are without their uses. If you're hanging out at a work barbeque, for example, it might be important to have something in your hand to make yourself look less awkward. A light beer can do that. Or you might need something to pour over your idiot co-worker's head after he insults your girlfriend. A light beer can do that, too.

But if you want a beer with relatively low calories and a full flavor, you've got some options. Contrary to popular belief, Guinness Draught is actually one of the "lightest" (regular) beers out there. And those of you saying, "No way - Guinness always makes me so full! It's got to be loaded with calories!", you've been duped - it's all in your head. Guinness Draught has an alcohol content of 4.0% and 125 calories. Brilliant! Beamish Irish Stout is also relatively low in calories and has a thick, creamy, smoky finish. Now we're talkin! If you want something less dark, I'm a big fan of Sam Adams Light (which is not a typical watered-down light beer - try it out and see for yourself).

But here's another, even simpler option. Drink whatever the heck beer you want, but only drink one or two. Drinking moderately is what nutritionists, doctors, and researchers agree is best for your health. So drink well, but drink smart!
