A new beginning...

i cant agree more with ntl...chicken is probably my number one saving grace for weight loss...keeps me full, and easy to fix, and low cals..yup, chicken has saved me...hail chicken!

Tempest: thanks!! Y'know I find what helps a lot is, listening to a audiobook on my ipod or reading a magazine/book while on the elliptical. It makes it MUCH less boring!!

NTL & Kate, thanks girls! Those are good ideas. Gosh if I think back to my running days, I used to always do a standard chicken breast for dinner, lil bit of seasoning and some veggies.. I was good to go. I Just need to restock my freezer! :)

Ok..another side note..

I must be the weirdest person temperature wise. Its 77 outside or something today. So I'm fine in just my t-shirt & jeans. In fact I'm a little warm I admit. In the office, of course my warm blooded co-workers have flipped on the A/C. Which has left me freezing. So I tossed on my fleece. Now I'm too warm. So I flipped on my desk fan, and I'm perfect. How weird is that??! There is A/C on in here, bt i still need the fan on because I'm too cold w/o my fleece, but too warm with just a fleece and no air movement. Oy... talk about a fussy pain in the butt I am!!

Nutrition effects on Energy Levels

Ok I've been pondering something. Ever since I think it was HH or NTL that reminded me of how much sugar is in the scones at Starbucks. I've been pondering trying to eliminate as much sugar as I can from my diet. I know this would be generally over all better for my health/nurition etc. However.. lately it seems I've been EXHAUSTED. For instance, I'm so tired right now, I feel like its taking a lot of effort to keep my eyes open. Granted it is the afternoon "lull" perod being 2pm but this seems a bit much for even me.

I am just wondernig if my body has had too much caffiene and too much sugar, and the "drop offs" are becoming extreme. I'm not sure. So, I may start posting how my energy levels feel, along with my food each day. Just as kind of an experiment, maybe I can figure why I'm so tired all the time. Sometimes I find myself on the weekends, when I can sleep in, taking multiple naps in the day. I mean like at least a full hour each nap! Seems a little odd, but my FH says its because I'm being more physicaly active and not at my desk as usual during the week days.

So... feel free to throw in any ponderments you can add to my own, and I guess you can all watch my energy vs. nutrition experiment. bye bye coffee and caffeineated(sp) drinks!! ;)

I think you're on to something there. For that two weeks on the SB, I wasn't having any carbs or sugar, and I was basically tired all the time too! So maybe you can cut out all the *processed* sugar, but leave in the natural ones like fruit if you've cut those out too.

This can definitely contribute to your fatigue! Caffeine and sugar together can do a HUGE number on sugar levels in your blood. Are you still doing Paula's Protein shake in the morning? I find that drinking that right before eating breakfast not only makes me fuller, but it practically ELIMINATED sugar highs and lows... Maybe what you should try is doing the shake and eating half a bagel in the morning. If you drink coffee, use as little sugar as possible.

I also had HUGE lows in the afternoon to the point of not being able to function, and eating food with less simple sugars definitely helped.

However, extreme fatigue can also be a sign of illness, and if eating less sugar does not normalize how you feel after a while, I would encaurage you to go to the doctor and watch closely for other symptoms. I was always tired, but I had "explanation" for this(lack of sleep, long commute, work stress, etc.), and when I finally went to the doctor it turned out to be mono! So if you have persistent fatigue, it may be a good idea to check into it further.

Hey Dana! Have you ever had your thyroid checked? I'm not saying that is what it is, but you have discussed several symptoms on here at different times that remind me of how I felt when I found out that I had it. Extreme fatigue, irregular cycles, aches and pains in your back. Those (plus others) can be signs of hypothryroidism. Many people have it, sometimes not severe, and it goes undiagnosed a lot of times. Just something to think about.

Hope everything goes great for ya today :)

I hear ya bout the fan thing- when I sleep, no matter how hot it is I hafta have lots of blankets but still hafta have a fan on my face, lol...weird...

Mornin' Dana :D When I run into low energy like that I eat some carbs (the GOOD kind - fruit or veggies) and PROTEIN to keep it from sending me outta wack later. It takes a few minutes for it to kick in but (especially if you keep it in your routine) does wonders for me! :D

Hope you have a great day - it IS friday afterall ;)

Awwww.. wow, I like coming on here late morning because you guys have all posted already and its like the best little morning pick me up!! You are all so sweet! :)

Well I am feeling quite proud of myself so far today!! I got up at 7am, even though I could of been lazy and slept in. I took the dogs to the park early this morning let them run a bit, but nobody else was there to play so we went jogging on the trailer. Now it wasn't forever, but I've got 5631 steps in so far this morning! We'll be taking another long walk later! On top of that my laundry is almost done and my floors are mopped! Bought groceries! My dogs are tuckered out for the morning and I have lots of energy so far today! :)
Sooo here is my food so far!! :)

Breakfast: bagel 300 calories
Water: 32 oz
Lunch:salad & teensy bit of light ice cream 200 calories
Afternoon snack:Special K bar 90 calories
