Yay, down to 72/158.4 Did get to the 150's :D
Goal is 70 by christmas, not sure if I'm going to make it though...

197.8 this morning. I'm hoping to get to 195 by Christmas. I was actually aiming for 190... but I don't see that happening. 195 is totally attainable though. Only 2 week left everyone!! Lets take it up a notch and wow everybody at our Holiday Parties!!!

WELCOME TO WEEK5!!
:party::party::party:

Forming healthy habits take 30 days. I hope that some of you have taught yourself some new healthy habits to take with you into the year 2010, whether it be something from a challenge, or something you have done on your own.

[Week 5 mini challenge

This week's challenge has to do with strength exercises.I'm not asking everyone to become a body-builder. I want you to continue with the cardio exercises, and at least 3 times this week for you to spend 20 minutes doing some strength exercises. Lifting weights, push-ups, sit ups, anything you can think of.

Here are some benefits of weight-training.

* Prevents loss of lean body mass that happens from dieting and/or aging
* Weight training workouts burn calories
* Helps change your body composition, which helps shape your body and keep you healthy
* Strengthens bones and connective tissue along with muscles
* Helps keep you strong and active as you get older

Good Luck everyone! and I'm looking forward to seeing a great loss from all of you next week. Don't give into temptations!!

I had such a small loss this week but I'm trying not to get discouraged. I think I messed my metabolism up for a bit because I wasn't keeping very good track of my calories and I kind of rounded up so when I went to holiday party last Saturday and had 3 cookies I gained a pound and a half lol >< doh. So now I'm keeping track on dailyplate and still working out at least 30 minutes in the morning while kid is at school unless I have a parent group or the day I volunteer.

I have been dreading a strength-training challenge, but knew it was coming. I can do about 7 sit-ups and 1 push-up. I'll make an effort to get to 25 situps and 5 push-ups this week. It may not sound like much, but I have a real aversion to strength-training. I used to lift weights, and get discouraged when I see all my muscle turned to flab. I hate to thinking about it. So thanks for the kick in the pants.

On the plus side, I lost three pounds this week. I am at goal. I was quite surprised as I've been ravenous and exceeded my calorie limit almost every day. It must be the jogging I've added.

It is physically impossible for muscle to turn to flab.

You can certainly gain (lots of) fat on top of your muscles.

You can also lose muscle mass if you don't eat enough protein and work them enough (hardly takes any work to maintain them, so you have to become very lazy).

In one worst case scenario, you can become a complete couch potato, eat a high kcal, high carb, low protein diet, and you will lose muscle mass as well as put on fat. But losing muscle mass and putting on fat are two separate operations, even if they are happening at the same time.

In another worst case scenario, you fall victim to yo-yo dieting and muscle atrophy. You diet so hard that you lose lots of muscle, then you begin binge eating and you put on lots of fat. But muscle simply can not turn to fat or flab.

AlphaX, thanks for that info. I definitely conformed to the couch-potato scenario. Trying to turn things around. This challenge may be just the motivation I need.

No worries. I was also a couch potato for nearly 10 years, and put on a large amount of fat, but I guess I used my muscles just enough to avoid losing them. I was very fat, but I could still manage to bench over 200 lbs (although I didn't do it very often at all). Now that I've lost weight, I can still bench the same. Of course my arms look a lot smaller now than they did then, but the reduction in size is largely down to losing body fat. There may have been a bit of muscle loss with dieting, but it doesn't appear to be much. Now, I just need to deal with this stubborn flab on my lower stomach and upper thighs. Flab is not loose skin, either, its fat. You can tell by how thick it is when you pinch it. If it were just skin, it would be almost paper thin.

Good luck, and start lifting again. Muscle will never turn to flab.

I'm looking forward to this weeks challenge. I do alot of cardio but not much strength training so I'm going to try to get my husband envolved in helping me out a little. I hope everyone has a productive week!

I'm running Late for work today, so the new challenge will be posted later tonight.

But this week's challenge is going to be making a plan to challenge yourself and fit your needs, and push it for 1 whole week. See what you are capable of!

More to come later tonight!!!

I feel off this challenge before it even began. So dissappointing. Everyone is doing great! Keep it up.

I hope there will be a new year 2010 challenge.
