Okay....so with a LONGGGGG HARD look at the "WHY" do I drink....i realized that I drink...for a couple reasons....

1) Social Drinker
2) I like the buzz
3) I use it as an escape sometimes


but mainly....I realized that ...I am addicted to "DRINKING" period. NOT ALCOHOL. JUST drinking....:dupe:

..I was remembering a time in my life 4 years ago, that I was able to QUIT drinking completely for 8 months :eek2:...!!! I know...I know...ME, I had done it! So sitting here, thinking back...how the hell did I do it :confused:...well, I REMEMBER and I "ALWAYS" had a HUGE jug of tea with me....AT ALL TIMES!
I would go to bars, and go through like 8 cups of Ice water throughout the night, and it was fun...I felt like I was still included, and I WAS STILL DRINKING! I used to carry that jug like it was attached to my arm....:D:

...And recently around August I think...I quit drinking for over a MONTH :eek2:...again...I did it....and how..!?!?!? Again...I was always drinking SOMETHING..and the urge would disappear.....CRAZY HUH!!!!!?!?!

...so I realized that right now...the times that I crave SPARKS or BEER is because I have no more tea in my hands...throughout the day, I am fine, cause I am constantly drinking tea, but the minute I leave is when the thoughts REALLY start to creep into my head. And if I wanted to use alcohol, to really escape then I would choose hard liquor....but I DON'T cause I don't want to be drunk....meaning I just like things that I can drink that consume time....and Beer and Sparks...can do that and I'm STILL DRINKING!

....so the SOLUTION to my PROBLEM here is:

GET A HUGE JUG AND DRINK TEA AT ALL TIMES LIKE I USED TO AND I WON'T WANT TO DRINK>>>>!!!!!

...took me a couple hours of reflection to really figure this shit out, but I'm HAPPY :D: I did!!! Wooooohoooooo!!! NO MORE ALCOHOL!!!!
 
Go jugs of tea!! I'm thinking worst case scenario if I am hurting pretty bad I can order a virgin margarita!! hahah....still get the salty icy flavor w/out the sauce.
 
Ideally I will avoid the calories. I'm just saying "worst case scenario"...I'll factor in the sweet and sour calories into my total calories for the day. I'm really wanting to just stick to water or ice tea (unsweetened). If I am out at a bar, I will do what Curvie suggested and do a low cal, alcohol free, option. Heck, no one needs to know its virgin!! LOL

Alright, going home now. Catch up w/ya tomorrow! Hugs, not drugs!

haha, you really DO love margaritas as much as i do, huh? everyone always makes fun of me b/c they say my fav food is mexican just b/c it's an excuse to drink margaritas :)
 
Damn Val, and WOW I love Margaretas however the more along the weight loss path i go...I cant really drink them anymore
 
I'm not with you on this, mostly because I'm trying to avoid sobriety. It's not working for me these days. I tell you I can't remember the last drink I had. It was probably New Years I had one shot and champagne at midnight. That's just not enough. :ack2:

Ok, I need to not drink during the week... and I need to limit drinks... and my boyfriend has an unnatural affinity for shooters... creamy ones :( and he's insulted if I don't take them with him.

But tough luck babe, I need to get this ass into gear. Drinking also makes me more tired and hungry the next day... I don't need it!

So I am going to try and cut down on my weekly units. I'd say I'm drinking about 8-10 Vawters (premixed drink made with vodka, spring water and lime)... I've estimated these at around 70 cals... could be 150.... and about 5-10 creamy shooters... 100 each??

Basically I figure I drink 13-20 units per week.... HOLY SHIT!!!

Well, I want to limit that number to 10 per week (6 drinks, 4 shots).... is this ambitious enough?? MAN I'm feeling UBER resistant to this right now!!!

I will probably drink 4 over the weekend and two on Thursdays (our drinking night :p )

Damn the juice.

I'm a weirdo--masochistic and I like the idea of asceticism. In my life I have quit alcohol, animal products, cooked food, and sex for various reasons, for periods of time. All were positive experiences. Also, it's good for the self esteem, I think.

Wow I can't imagine working at a winery and not taking sips---I am so proud of you for trying to stay away for at least 30 days! It'll be great for your self control as well as weight loss, because you are right, those sips REALLY ADD UP!

TELL ME ABOUT IT!!! I have a gameplan, though: gonna bring Kombucha, seltzer water, and minty gum to work. This Saturday is gonna be even more tough because I'll be working for 6.5 to 7 hours, because the winery is having an event with TONS of cheeses and crackers, dried fruit and lots of drunk people. Talk about temptation! For my diet AND my no drinking.....I'll be Ok though :) I can do it.

I think that's a great plan of attack. Do you normally drink enough water in a day? Sometimes I forget, and choose tea or Kombucha or flavored sparkling water when I should be drinking more of the real thing....

Melissa, DO WHAT IT TAKES TO STAY DRY. And you probably won't be ordering a second one, like you would if it had yummy, mind-altering alcohol in it! But trust me and try it--seltzer water, enough grenadine to make it slightly sweet, and juice from half a lime--try it this weekend and tell me what you think! Text or call me!

Relly, it's usually just that they're so BIG and delicious. But yeah, I used to drink Margaritas a whole lot more before I found the drink fact sheet.....TRUST ME, try a vodka with cranberry and lime juice--less cals and it tastes great!

CAN YOU BELIEVE A LONG ISLAND ICED TEA IS 789 CALORIES FOR 12 OZ?!?!!?

Well, now you're armed with knowledge. I still recommend that you guys, IF dieting and you CARE, print out that sheet from the website and keep it in your car or purse if you have a big one, when you go out.....

Have a heart to heart like, "Honey, I love you, and it makes me feel good when you like to include me on things. But please support my weight loss efforts--liqueur is like, 120 calories for only 1.5 oz!"

I've been sober 4 whole days...so far so good. I've already started thinking about the weekend and how I will be strong and avoid drinks. I've offered to my friends that for the next 30 days I can be their designated driver. hehe

I'm feeling pretty good about this commitment to myself and to my body. I'm so freakin close to my goal I'm about to jump out of my skin!! I'm in the final stages of my transformation and cutting out my beloved Margarita is worth all the heartache. I'm going to miss her...I surely will. I have sweet and sour running through my veins.

Valerie, I'm seriously going to try your concoction if the opportunity arises. Sounds like a refreshing low cal alternative but will look interesting to!!

I made it through DAY ONE!!! LOL!!!

DAY 2 !!! :party:!!!

....the first 3 days are the hardest, and lucky for me ...my first 3 days landed on my weekend :(....SO here stands the ULTIMATE test ;)....make it through the first and I'm in the clear! Luckily my bf agrees that we need to limit the alcohol, and even suggested that we get up bright and early and go for our LONG HIKES in the HILLS :beating:....man have I been waiting for him to say that, cause it's so damn dark @ night, and so damn lonely :eek: in the mornings....scarry....weirdo's out there...but SOUNDS like it's gonna be a GOOD WEEKEND!!! :sifone:

Girl...I have taken a good hard look at all the things in my life that help me reach my goals and those that are hindering my progress. Over the past year I have made great strides to step up the exercise, improve my running skills, and also be more conscience of my diet. I've nearly cut out fast food completely and drink only water now w/an occasional ice team mixed in there and lots of margaritas, pear ciders, and bloody mary's.

Now that I am down to the "fine tuning" I need to take a deeper dive. This is when it dawned on my that my alcohol consumption is not helping me achieve my goals...so, that is why I am here w/you, Alta, and the other boozers who are being held back from our potential by our guilty indulgences.

It's time for me to sacrifice to get to the next level. And this will help me make a lifestyle change...I am excited!

Good luck this weekend! Remember, it is only 30 days! The sparks will be there after this challenge. We just need to be super committed over the next few weeks. We can do it! Call me if you need support this weekend.
