20lbs or less club

cym and freshman, I totally agree on the food being the most important and yet hardest. I would love it if I could just workout really hard every day and then get to eat whatever I want. I think even when I get to a maintenance point it is always going to be a struggle (like the donuts out in the hallway here at work right now... ugh how i want one!)

Toning

newmommy: I totally agree with Cym, that toning is key! I lost the weight by nursing alone, and then once I stopped the 15 lbs piled on... if I had just gotten back into abs workouts, cardio, eating healthy like I did pre-baby, I really think that I would have been fine. Instead I just ate lots of awful food and sat around... to be fair things were a little crazy with my son (4+ months in the hospial), but still, I wish I'd taken better care of myself so I wouldn't have to do all the hard work now! Not taking out my bad feelings by eating is one of my major goals... I just wish I'd started it sooner:rolleyes:

Stay strong Jennay!

I agree about eating being the most impt thing, and you're right it's great to have the reminder b/c it's easy to get in the mindset "oh I'll just work it off later" (ha!)

Stay strong with those donuts, Jennay! :D

xxoo,

Hey, thanks! I'll definately look into getting someone to help me. To be honest I really hope I'm never back to my prepregnancy shape, lol. I actually didn't gain any weight while I was pregnant. I was really sick and on a low-fat diet because of gallstones so I lost 15 lbs in the first trimester and then slowly gained it back in the next two trimesters. The day before I delivered I was the same weight as the day before I got pregnant. I'm now 55 lbs lighter than prepregnancy. I'm 20 years old now and haven't seen numbers in the 120's on the scales since Junior High. I was put on antidepressants when my mom and step-dad divorced when I was in 9th grade and that, I think, contributed a lot to my weight gain. I went off of the meds a few months before my husband and I started trying for a baby and I don't plan on going back on them. Anyway, now that you know my life story,lol... the reason I don't know how to get in shape is because I never have been in shape. I guess it's time to call in the prefessionals!

There are many ways to tone up...

Especially after slimming down... and you can see it in the people that get better with age.. even after kiddos..

TIME TIME TIME and MORE TIME :D

If we all keep up with eating and workout efforts.. lots of cardio and toning we'll just get better and better. I saw this when I was on an almost 4 year workout streak after my 2nd baby. My weight didn't change a whole lot that last year or so, but my body kept getting smaller and more toned. It's awesome.

I always say our bodies or "being in shape" is like a bank account, the more you put in and "invest" so to speak the better we'll get. It takes time to build a nice account, but amazing what effort over time will produce.

Anyway, silly analogy, but true!!

Oh, edited to add: Do whatever you love... run, do videos, go to the gym, dance, sports, lessons/classes... I believe just moving our butts works, however you like doing that will get you to a better place. :)

hey, thanks for the advice Kat Blue. :) CaseyAtMartin, you're doing great! I hope those last 13 fly by!
Well, I went shopping for new jeans for the first time in a while. I was wearing the same 2 pairs of too big jeans held up by a belt (size 13) and when I actually went out and tried on jeans I was astounded at how small of a size I wear! I crossed my fingers as I went into the dressing room to try on a size 7/8 and when I got it on it was too big, my husband went and got me a size 5/6 and when I tried that on the salesgirl said "Well, I think you should try a 3/4, those look a little loose on you and our jeans tend to stretch" So I tried on the 3/4 and they fit but I HATE things constricting around my waist so I went with the 5/6. I bought some medium shirts (I used to wear a large and could probably wear a small now if it wasn't for my 36 D's lol) It was a great day. :):):):) I just can't stop smiling. OH, and I had to get my rings resized too, I used to wear a 7 and since I lost weight I've dropped down to a 5 1/2!

Congrats newmommy! That is awesome news. The ring size is especially interesting....we often forget that little things like that change too when we lose weight!

So, newmommy1, what do you think have been the most helpful things in your weight loss? Fitting into size 3/4 pants again sounds divine!!!! :) :) :)

thanks! :) Well, I have to say that the most helpful things in my weight loss was persistence, I know that sounds so obvious, but I started cutting calories on October 25th and even through a 6 weeks plateau where I lost no weight I never stopped trying, even if I slipped one day I didn't see it as a reason to give up, I saw it as a reason to try harder the next day. I have to say, however that nursing my daughter has helped. She takes away about 500 calories from me so I have the illusion of eating a lot but I'm not getting all of the calories. And one more thing that helped me was that I almost totally cut out baked goods, cake, pie, danishes, muffins, cupcakes, cookies, etc. I LOVE those things and if I have one then I can't help but eat the rest. so I took away the temptation. Well... actually I have to go right now to make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies for my husband but I always make him take them to work the next day! lol.

I'm so excited: 7.4 more pounds and I can join your club!!! (if you'll have me)

WEEHEE!!! See you when I hit 150!

Thanks, newmommy1 and welcome, kaitie!

Thanks, newmommy1, I'll take a reminder about patience every day! I can't believe how quickly you've lost the weight - WOW. You must be so proud of yourself (you should be!) I agree, nursing ROCKS in the wt loss dept. But I think that if you keep on the no-baked goods course (oatmeal chocolate chip cookie baking aside... mmmm... makes me hungry just writing those words!) I bet you'll stay the hot mama you've become even post-nursing. Anyway, thank you so much for the post. I think the take-home msg is that I should get preggers again asap so I can start nursing? Ha! J/K :D :D :D

And welcome to the group, Kaitie!

p.s. I lost a pound!!!!!

Well, I cheated yesterday and had a milkshake. I also had about 8 cookies today. Of course I ate well at all the other meals and I excercised. It is that time of the month and I always crave sweets. Does anyone else have this problem? Every month I get so tired and it is hard for me to work out or want to do anything. I really want to lose this weight and it is very helpful reading everyones comments.

I hear that!

Yes! That same thing happens to me EVERY month too (another reason to get preggers - ha JUST KIDDING :D ). It always takes me by surprise too... which makes me think the key is to be ready for it... maybe map out ahead of time when your next PMS time will be so you'll be ready and know it's coming and be less likely to chow down. I'd love to hear other people's suggestions too!
p.s. If it makes you feel any better, I ate a ton of apple cobbler today, and it's not even that time of the month for me (i.e., I have no excuse! ) So much for that wonderful lb I lost - ha!

Oh yeah.

PMS sucks... it's my week coming up... once I start I'm good, it's kind of a relief.. it's the irritability, cravings, bloating, etc the week before that get me. :(

Suggestions.. I think exercise really helps.. before, during, and after. It helps with cramps and you just feel good burning some cals. I don't ever seem to eat clean during that time, I think it's good to have some of what we want... I'm open for suggestions if anyone has some!!

The only real suggestion I have for help with PMS is exercise. Exercise really helps me alleviate cramps and get rid of the waterweight, and it makes my mood better. It also helps with fatigue.

Thanks everybody for the response about PMS. I am doing much better today. I ate very well today so I hope I am back on track. I went to the gym and it seemed to make me feel alot better even though my cramps were a killer.

I have a question for everybody. I work at an animal clinic and I am on my feet for about 35 hours a week at work. I also do some heavy lifting and restraining of animals. How do I figure out how many calories I burn just by working on a daily basis?

Can I Join, too? :)

Hey all!

Newbie here (last week). I once was 170+ & lost it, but see the scale inching UP again, argh! I am 5' 3.5" (love that 1/2 inch?) and about 150. I refuse to get on the scale, but MY CLOTHES are screaming (and DO NOT fit!)

I can blame it on....Bad divorce, depression--->BUT!....now good relationship, but he's out of the country 4 days a week & I am laid-off. I had a car wreck last month that wracked my neck/shoulder, so gotta be careful working out. Any tips??

You guys (girls!) are great! Losing 10-20 IS as hard for me closer to men-o-pause than it EVER was! BUT.....I need this forum!

Stay strong! Keep writing the GOOD STUFF, too! I'm "inspired!" :) :D
