20lbs or less club

What are you looking for in a snack? Strictly that it be low fat and low cal? I am not fond of celery at all, but I do fine if it is with some all natural peanut butter (can also do apple and PB). You could have half a can of tuna with a bit of light mayo and a pickle. Yogurt makes a good snack as well. Really anything could be a snack, take what you would eat in a meal and just have a smaller portion (last night's dinner could be today's afternoon munchie!). :D

More healthy snacks

I looked online and found a list of other healthy snacks (I just pasted the ones that have minimal vegetable involvement ;) )

Deviled eggs
¼ cup berries with 1/3 cup cottage cheese
Nuts (keep raw ones in the freezer if you think you’ll overeat them)
Sunflower seeds (get them in the shell so it will take longer to eat them)
Toasted Pumpkin Seeds
Low Carb Trail Mix
Jerky (beef, turkey, etc.) (try to find low sugar varieties)
Cup of yogurt
Yogurt smoothie
Cheese sticks, such as string cheese
Sugar free jello, alone or with cottage cheese and a sprinkling of nuts
Cheese with a few apple slices
4 oz plain or sugar-free yogurt with berries and flax seed meal
Lettuce Roll ups – roll luncheon meat, egg salad, tuna, etc.

I also really like the Quaker oatmeal packets. Lots of protein and fiber and nutrients with only 160 calories, and it just takes 1 min in the microwave and it's ready to eat!

Hey Everyone

So I just signed up for an account, never done a forum/chatroom before. You guys seem really helpful and fun so I thought I'd post a reply.
I'm 19 years old, female, and a university student. I'm 5'8 and probably around 160LBs. I would like to be around 145Lbs. I need help with motivation, I tend to gain and lose the same 10Lbs over and over because I just give up. I think if I had some people to check in with I'd feel a little more pressure to stay on track. Need a new chat buddy?

Welcome, Freshman15!

Welcome, Freshman15! You've come to the right place! We always need new chat buddies :) And you're right, this group is great. Since joining, I've lost 2 lbs, am eating tons healthier, am binging less (that has been my big issue), and am exercising more. This group is great! I have lots of ups and downs, good days and bad days, but I'm having more and more ups and good days. And as we keep reminding each other, if you want to do it right, weight loss is a slooow process. This group has been great so far at providing the needed motivation to stay on the wagon and just keep trucking along (how's that for some mixed metaphors??:p ) Glad you're joining us!

So I weighed myself today, I'm 160Lbs. My goal is 145Lbs but for now I'd be happy maintaining 150Lbs. I'm going to try to eat around 1600 calories a day. I work out a bit but I want to try to pick u jogging... it's such a time saver to just throw on runners and be done in thirty minutes instead of the commute it takes to get to the gym. I hate running though lol.
What are you guys doing to lose weight?
And ps a great snack for when you absolutely need to munch is smart pop popcorn bags, they're 100 calories and its actually quite a bit of popcorn. Where do you guys get those cute weight loss tracker bars?

loriteresa:

I think Jennay's suggestion about a snack being a smaller version of a meal is great...personally I probably eat about 4-5 small but complete meals a day and save a snack (something that tastes good but has no real value except it won't blow my deficit) for late evening t.v watching or just hangin' out. Then it's something like air-popped corn or frozen yogurt mixed with fruit and nuts.

Hi everyone :) you're all looking really good, and to the new people, welcome to the forum! I haven't been on in a while as I have been really sick. I had a procedure done on Valentines Day and had some complications but am doing much better now, I'm not too mad because it helped melose a few lbs, lol. Well, just wanted to pop my head in here, I check on you guys often but don't talk a whole lot, lol. Anyway, I'm down to my last 3.5 lbs. Right now I'm struggling with the fact that I still don't like the way my body looks even though I've lost the weight. I still have to tone my body and deal with the fact that pregnancy gave me stretchmarks. so that's what I'm up to...

I see the ticker.. it's just really small? I really like using these, it's nice to visualize the loss.. visualize the goal.. Ok, I sound like the pep talk at the ending of a cheesy movie. :D

I'm down another 0.5 lbs!!!!

Questions and Answer

For those of you exercising regularly... how long did it take for you to really notice some change? What did you notice?

I exercised 4 days the 1st week of Jan, 3 the 2nd week, and 4 the 3rd week. I realized I needed to really up things for weight loss.... so I got in 5 days for two weeks... and now I'm on my 3rd week of doing a 20 min tready in the morning in addition to the 5 workouts a week. ( I do a variety of workout tapes)

I do think it takes at least this long to see change. I think I'm starting to notice a slight difference in my backside!! Exciting! :D

For my answer... I'm doing the above exercise.. Plus, I'm trying with my eating. Trying with portions, more water, I gave up my diet coke starting Jan 1. I think this is all helping. So, in other words.. good old fashioned-healthy working my butt off. I'm not doing anything I can't maintain.. don't believe in "dieting" or pushing toooo hard. But, I am pushing myself. Hope that answers your question. I have a ways to go, but I'm definitely on my way.

Kat-

I am just now noticing very small changes in my body and I began exercising regularly again on January 1st. I work out 5 to 6 days a week, usually once a day, integrating, running, swimming, elliptical, and Tae-Bo, plus all the walking I do around campus and for my job. The only changes I have really seen so far are in my waistline and around my hips--they're getting a little smaller.

Thanks everybody for the help on the snack suggestions. One suggestion from me is the Jello Sugar Free Pudding cups. They have a new one that is dulce de leche and it is soooo good. Its only 60cals and I think a couple of grams of fat.

Freshman 15- I work out on a regular basis and I think that is the only reason my weight has stayed about the same or within 5-7 pounds over the past two years. I will tell you that nutrition is a huge factor in weight loss. I have been bad about this and that is why I have never reached my goal weight of 142. Between good nutrition and 4-5 times a week of conditioning and cardio you should notice a difference within a month or so. I am approaching 30 this year and getting married so I am dead set on getting this weight off.

Thanks everybody for all the suggestions!

I do a workout class at my rec centre and the trainer there is really helpful. She always tells us little tips during the class. She says its 40% what you do and 60% what you eat. Exercise is totally important of course but eating right is where you'll really see the weight come off. Also she says to eat a high protein snack within an hour of working out vigorously.

Congrats, newmommy1

Hi everyone :) you're all looking really good, and to the new people, welcome to the forum! I haven't been on in a while as I have been really sick. Newmommy1, I hear that about not liking your body even after all the wt is gone! I lost the baby weight right away, but I was so unhappy with the way my body looked... even though the scale said the right #, everything was in the wrong place and looked all flabby, and my once toned abs had become a squishy muffin top. So... I said the heck with it and gave up my healthy ways... and here I am 15 lbs heavier and unable to fit into my clothes! My previous post-baby body, muffin top and all, is now what I aspire to - LOL!

Anyway... HUGE congrats on all your wt loss, you're almost there - WOW! I'm so sorry it took illness and surgery to help it along, but I hope you're feeling better now! Congrats again!!

Hey All,

Just wanted to share... I've found a new hot tea that I really love -- Bigelow's Decaf Spiced Chai. I am pretty picky about my tea, but this stuff is like liquid spice cake sort of :D yum yum I sweeten with Splenda...

thanks everyone :) AnnaBananna, did you try to tone up at all, like strength training? Or did you just do cardio to lose weight? I'm really hoping that I'll be able to get into a somewhat decent shape through exercise. Up until now I haven't really exercised. Well, The scale said 127.6 today so that was exciting! I'm thinking about joining a gym and getting a person trainer because whereas I know how to lose weight, I'm really pretty clueless as to how to get in shape!

kat_blue: it takes me about three/four weeks of being consistant with food/exercise to see any visable improvement too...the I problem I always have to fight is maintaining the "consistent" part while waiting for those results cause I tend to want things "now, now now"

newmommy: I'm a big believer in weight training and yoga for body "reshaping"...if you can join a gym and get some guidance from a good trainer you'll be back to pre-baby shape (or even better) before you know it!

freshman: totally agree on the "eating right" being the major part of the equation...too bad that sometimes it seems to be the hardest part though

jennay: you sold me on the chai tea once you described it as tasting like spice cake!

hope everyone has a great day!
