Sparrows Experiment

Ditched the long run this morning. We were going to only do 9.

My run buddy and I decided it was time for a week of backing off a little so we did our own thing this morning.

My own thing consisted of sleeping in till 8, getting some coffee, doing some errands and then deciding I needed to go do a run afterall.

It is extremely windy here today so one direction of the run sucked. I just pretended I was doing hills, the wind was that resistant and I felt like I was marking time. It was nice to just be me. I've not done a solo run for a while. Ended up at 6.1 miles and 8:01 pace

Despite trying to be lazy, you couldn't. Too funny.

Tell me about it. I did a ride in that wind. :(

A ride would have royally stunk. Props to you! Did you go on the trail or just around your own route? At least running in the wind you can stop and walk-can't do much about the wind on a bike!

I rode into the wind for 50 mlies and then caught a tail wind for 50 miles on the return. I ran in the wind yesterday but that felt good because it kept me cool.

I can't imagine battling the wind for that long. I'm thinking about doing "windman" half in Los Banos in April so I guess maybe I should have taken advantage of that windy day too! ha. Not like we don't get enough of them though.

I also like running in the wind for the most part. As long as it doesn't make me run in place!

If you're willing to travel to Los Banos, wait another month and do Wildflower instead. It's like Woodstock for triathlon. If you camp there, it's absolutely insane! You don't have to though, you can stay in Kings City. If you do decide to do it, signup as soon as you can because it sells out quickly.

Here's a picture from when I was there...

It's absolutely crazy! It's a tough course though.

Looks like everything is going well :)

Out of interest how far away is the event you're competing for?

Keep up the good work

:action11:

Wildflower is May right? Maybe. Thats a pretty wild pic!

Windman appeals only because it is a nothing event, in a nothing town, meaning it is as informal as a half iron can but, but its still the distance. I'm mostly just out to finish the course and close it down. I know thats a joke. the minute I cross the line I'll be back online googling the for the next one ;) thats just how this "disease" works :D

I have heard wildflower is pretty tough. I don't know how it compares to Vineman (the one I did in August). The bike on Vineman was challenging, but totally doable for me. Its the hills on the run that just floor me. Give me a hilly bike and a flat run and that would be ideal ;)

Thanks Dutes. I'm not 100% in with the Los Banos event. I'm using a friends bike right now that I'm praying she'll sell me (I'm not kidding, I'm really praying for it!). I did my last half on it and it fits me like a glove. I will probably cry if I have to give it back :) She just had a baby so she's not in a hurry.

Anyway, so that one in April is wishful thinking and its even wishful thinking to think I'll do triathlon at all this next season as I really cannot afford a bike. IF i do it its only 2 hours away from here. Its actually right by where I grew up and where my parents still reside so its an easy day event with a cozy bed and a homecooked meal :)

Wildflower is May and the course is tough. No doubt about that. Vineman is an easier course. But we're talking about a half ironman so it's not like we're going to skip our way through any of them.

Sounds like you wanna do FF's Great Floridian 70.3. Nasty bike ride up and down hills but a flat run around the lake.

YES that would be ideal-although Florida sounds like nasty humidity to me-ya just can't win em all can ya?!

60 min Spin class-hills galore-love them
4 mile run-intervals: 10 min warm up then alternate 2 min 8:30pace/1 min 6:00 pace
30 minutes quick full body weights (2 exercises each major body part)
stretch

I could have worked out all day. I felt so great.

I'm very happy today! I found out I'm headed to FL at the end of the month to hang out at the beach with my sister and her 2 little ones for 4 days. So excited!

Hills galore? Hmm. Where in Florida are you headed? Although we are still in hurricane season (until Thanksgiving), there are no tropical depressions or storms anywhere close, so you should be okay with storms.

okay, virtual hills anyway:rolleyes: I tapped out my legs thats for sure, and then went to run and do some weights on them. Felt great.

I'm headed to the east side-Daytona Beach

Well, virtual hills are just as nasty...

Daytona Beach is cool. You can drive on the beach, as long as the turtles aren't nesting, and there are more tattoo parlors in Daytona than anywhere else in the world (or so it seems). Take a pic of your new tat. And, because Bike Week is held there, you can pick up a "If you can read this, the old lady fell off" T shirt. Or not.

Haha well the enthusiasm just keeps building. lol :costumed3:

22 mile bike
6 mile run
possible 1 hour swim tonight

It was nice to get out on the bike. Its a windless flat day and I averagd 22mph pretty easily. I'm hoping to swim the PM masters class that someone else coaches. I haven't been part of a swim class for a really long time. High time someone bossed me around in the pool for once :)

Swim tonight. Found out...I can't sprint worth beans. haha. Although, thats no news flash

300 warm up
8x50 in IM order
3x100 (pull/kick/swim)
4x100 sprints
3x100 (back/breast/free)
cool down

This was a very easy workout in and of itself. It wasn't mine, I went to the PM masters class coached by someone else. She had no idea I was the AM coach until my daughter (who I brought to swim with me) told her while I was swimming. I was actually there to evaluate her for our "boss" and I was supposed to be annonymous. oh well.

Anyway, it was fun to be part of a class and not on the deck. The sprints were hard. I just don't make myself sprint in the pool. Ever. My times were around 1:12-14 for all of them which is pretty lame considering my cruise speed is 1:20. Thats the mark of a true endurance athlete I guess.
