Sport What is wrong with bannanas?

Have to agree - whilst I can see both points of view based on what was said, I shouldn't really have been exposed to either. PM your arguments please - or PM an administrator if you feel unhappy with the conduct of others

AYE!! Much agreed, even though I want to add my thoughts on that exchange.

Though entertaining, the banter between the two of you is inconsequential to the topic at hand. And Mr. FLA is too condescending to make a valid point of contructive criticism. No matter how educated you express yourself. Coupling threats and sweeping assumptions with words of wisdom do nothing for your audience, and less for your reputation as a sooth sayer.

As for Bananas, I like them! I eat two a day, but I do tend to eat one on an empty stomach in the mornings. I heard that they are high in potassium and good to eat after an enduring cardio workout. Is that true?

They're often used by athletes to prevent cramping. Watch tennis matches... a lot of them will have half a banana between sets.

Personally, I usually have a banana for a morning or afternoon otherwise i'm starving by lunch/dinner.... but they are high in sugar.

I'm not sure if this is the "best" thing to do, but it gets me by.

and PMDilly, you are obviously well educated on the subject, but teknotexan is right. You're coming across as a jerk, and really not offering any useful help. Contradicting everyone's (i.e. LeanBean's) advice is simply confusing people such as myself. Granted, you may be right, but you're not following up with any information that can actually be applied.

Back on topic...you should avoid eating bananas along with a fat because of the high GI level of bananas (61 or close I believe). BUT, pre/post workout, or with breakfast (if you do training in the morning) is good for you. I generally eat 1 in the morning and 1 post workout with my shake (instead of using so much dextrose). Then throughout the day, I eat fruit as a snack to keep my energy levels up.

Bananas have maximum number of fats. To maintain your body eat less no of bananas. Calories contains in bananas are more than anyother fruit. You should not eat more than 1 or 2 bananas in a day.

I disagree. PMD, posted that while eating bananas alone isn't the best idea that consuming them while consuming them with other foods negates a lot of the 'badness' of them. And he urged Leanbean (as well as others) to do a bit more research rather than just spitting out what others are saying when it maynot exactly be true.

Soooo...we have this fruit. Some people say don't eat it because it's kinda' high on this sugar scale and this will make you fat. So, rather than realizing that the GI scale kinda' sucks when you take into account the consumption of proteins, fiber, and fat changes the rate of absorption and insulin spiking (among other things) then the GI scale means jack about nothing for the most part.

Not to drag this out, especially since some of you seem to be really annoyed by it..... but I think you should desire someone of PMDilly's caliber correcting your posts. Number one, it is a great way to learn yourself, but it also is a benefit to the board as others will be educated too. I think this board is too quick NOT to speak up when something someone says is incorrect or incomplete. This leads to a lot of misinformation being passed around.

I like to think that I am respected around here for giving good advice. I would love for PMDilly to follow me around and critique my posts. I would view it as a learning experience or a good point of debate. Argument is never good. Debate is great in my opinion. To see two educated people present their points of views and educations is the greatest way to learn for the rest of us.

Matt, the only thing I can say to you is, this forum is not like the others. We need to ease into debate around here, or else it is taken as stepping on others toes. Right or wrong, hopefully you catch my drift.

It's not like everything I say is completely inaccurate though. Even then, I fail to see why he cares so much about "teaching me," and whether or not I end up in the right path. He's not a part of my life, and never will be. Yes, he is correct about me not being able to take criticism well, but posting in virtually every thread I am just to prove me wrong? Please...I'll learn from my own mistakes. I'll be fine. Posting "constructive criticism" while patronizing me doesn't help.

It's almost driven me to leave this place and to stay strictly at the BodyBuilding.com forums, where I was ACTUALLY helped by others with no problems whatsoever. However, I've chosen to take advantage of the ignore feature on here to end this.

If anyone chooses to reply to this, PM it....to avoid continuing the hi-jacking of the thread.

I see that. However, with the amount of whining and moaning that's come of it, I'm not sure I really care to hang around that much.

I probably will. I don't get offended by things like this as a rule. If people don't like what I say, they can ignore it, and keep getting the same results from doing the same things.

I personally like my training and diet to be productive, but hey, I'm crazy.

dont leave, reading your posts is very entertaining because you are very educated on health issues and the way you point things out just makes me laugh lol. thank you. and you make good points.

It would be a shame for either of you to leave for such reasons. Especially people who are able to contribute as much as both PMDilly and LeanBean. That said, if LeanBean isn't looking for a 'teacher' then, I fail to see why PMDilly would take it upon himself to 'challenge' her in what appeared to me to be a condescending manner. I appreciate that is just the way you post man but, the attitude that people should just accept it even if it makes them uncomfortable is wrong imo. In the real world, do you not adjust your behaviour depending on what is appropriate to where you are and who you are with? Still, I want as much of your knowledge as you're prepared to post so, to reiterate what has been said already - don't leave :)

Back on topic - I'm actually starting to LIKE bananas!! This is quite a breakthrough as, 3 weeks ago, they almost made me gag! Just goes to show, you can learn to like things if you have to (the obvious exception being Cottage Cheese which is truly evil!) ;)

Actually, I only steered my post back on topic as a token gesture. Totally aware that I'm flogging a dead horse but, hoping to avoid the wrath of the 'Please stay on topic' brigade :p

Although lilsarrygrl05, I'm sure I could talk about bananas for as long as I needed to but, I'd need to move into more interesting territory than just the 'are they good for you/bad for you?' debate! ;)

Does a banana have a fat content?
It's been posted in this thread that they're high in fat and should be avoided. I've just done a bunch of searching and found they have about 0.3% fat. I don't call that enough to warrant them "high in fat" especially since they provide so many other nutrients.

Besides, they're CHEAP and easy to eat but if you don't like them, don't eat any.

I eat them every day. I am not fat. :)
