What are you training for?

ha, betsie, I know how you mean. Not personally, but I'm at the top of that age bracket and I know of many boys who want to 'beef up'. All going hopelessly wrong.

I was not a healthy kid/teen/young adult.
I started training to be healthier and get "skinny" (yes, pretty much mutually exclusive, but I was ignorant back then), then I decided to train to run 10k that was being sponsored by my employer to set an example to the other employees (I am mgmt), and I became addicted and now
(a) I want sexy chick muscle defintion; and
(b) I am training for a triathlon.

Soon I will be training for a marathon.

I just want to beat myself (get stronger and faster than before)at everything.

37 yo female (and in the best shape of my life), 145lb, 5"7'

I have been in training for years so I could perform on the drop of a hat. Make a skydive, jump a bicycle, ride a motorcycle, do more pushups than somebody else, B.A.S.E. jump, just flat be ALPHA MALE SUPERIOR!!! Period! So, I would run marathons, join this, do that, exceed and go, and risk it all for a thrill.

Then I had a hard landing in a skydive. and my trainign though process took a different turn- RECOVERY! back to 100%... and I realized I am older. And now,,, I want to do a few things.

1. I want to swim the length of the Skyway Bridge at the mouth of Tampa Bay (11 miles) strong current open water

2. I want to do a triathalon right around my 40th B-day (april 08)

3. I want to return regain my performance in skydiving

4. AND this one is new-- I want to have a body that not even an insect will land on. Not muscle man. But healthy, cut, lean, strong and athletic.

I want to be the example for my son to continue following, and i don;t want my daughters to accept any fat lazy slob for a man, and i want my wife to fall all over herself for me.

that is all. NO BIGGIE!

Motivational wise, you must feel as if you are in an awsome position. I know what you mean about 'alpha male superior', when you can do all that stuff people do look at you in a different way.

...Iwant a 6 pack but interestingly enough my gf actually wants me to maintain a slight beer belly....

Tee-hee. That's funny...but I have to admit, I've had the 6-packed out BF and didn't really like it (no offense to the ones that do) I mean it 'looks good' but doesn't feel like flesh to me. LOL

Me, I train for pure vanity :(.

I don't want to be a flabby/chubby 40 year old woman. (The health benefits are the bonus for me). I want to be the best ME at any age :)

I train to be like Batman.

I'm not kidding when I say that -- I'm in it for phyiscal performance perfection. I want to make demands on my body to do whatever I say, and no matter how hard, fast, or heavy, I want my body to listen.

All except the batman part--- YA MAN!!!! "I want you to do me a favor,,, I want you to hit me as hard as you can!!!!" fightclub

and something else for me, is when I tell my body to stop, breath, hold!!

just something about the way you said it!!!

I started weightlifting after my first year of football. My first year was horrible I didn't know anything and I was adjusting to tackling and being tackled: I was nearly murdered every practice. It was like a new bruise everyday. Thats what motivated me to start weight lifting.

By my JV season, I wasn't weak no more but still not strong enough to start. I did start 3 games however (1 game I was taken out though because the linemen in front of me was 260 and I was only 150 at the time....). But the last game of the season I was so close to a sack I destroyed the quarterback when I got open but he managed to get that ball away somehow...

And thats how I am motivated now. Not to start; I'm not playing college football (unlike my father thinking I'm going to be a 1st round draft pick its more annoying then it seems...). I just want to get 1 sack before I leave High School.

I'm training for a lot of different reasons, but I guess the first is vanity and health. Turning 40 and I want to be gawked at--

Healthwise, I need to be around for a long time for my kids and my wife. I want to be the dad my son and daughter can be proud of.

I'm even toying with training for a marathon (okay...I ordered a book).

Small steps, but hey...still moving.

yeah she likes to lay her head on my belly... my abs are getting more toned now so she says it is uncomfortable lol

Because when it comes down to it, when you're at the bottom of the ruck, if he's stronger than you he's going to get the ball off you. If he's not you can steal a few feet and wait for help to arrive.

That is what wins close games. I dont want to be responsible for letting down my teammates.

I'd say it's about 90% for the chicks...and 10% for the health lol.

I look at it like this, eat right and exercise and you can have what you REALLY want. I use to enjoy eating junk food as a young kid, now I'm 19 and I don't care for sweets anymore, I'm all for the ladies now & my Asthma is LONG gone.

I use to enjoy eating junk and doing nothing, not caring for my health or about getting a girlfriend & playing games or watching TV.

Now I enjoy going out with friends, meeting new people, being healthy & I love the chicks...so yeah...eating healthy+exercise is what I need to do what I want now..not eating junk and sitting at home all day playing games n watching TV not taking care of myself.

The history of weight training

Weightlifting dates back to 3000 BC in a Chinese text that describes soldiers lifting heavy stones as a test before entry into the military. The tombs of Pharaohs describe athletes lifting bags of sand for sport.

Sculptures from ancient Greece illustrate weight lifting. A stone was found at Olympia dating back to 600 BC. The stone stated that it was lifted by an athlete named Bybon.

Later weight lifting became an intricate design for enhancement of athletic skills needed in sport competion. Enter the era of the Olympiads.

Somewhere along the lines of human tech evolution, the science of weight training lost its focus and true intent.

Today, too many malfunctional muscleheads live a very unhealthy life with a muriad of health problems. You see them puttering around the gyms all day long!
How many guys do you know that are>200lbs can run a sub 6 minute mile do 75 pushups or spend heated hours with their women in the bedroom?

So...why do you train?
