Weighted Clothing

Could I get some ideas or mabe some opinions about weighted clothing?

I need these ideas because I plan to train with them for the next 4 years of my life. But before I do so i want to make sure I know what I am doing.

Weighted clothing?? What does that entail? What sport are you training for? How old are you? Are you under a trainers supervison? All these questions need to be answered before we can give you proper advice.

I am 16 almost 17
This is training to become stronger, faster and just to train.
And no I do not have a personal trainer.
I am in great condition, I wrestle and play football.
This is more for self improvement.
I am a self motivator and like to learn hands on.

This weighted clothing will probobly start out with about 20 lbs.
It will be like a vest and be worn at all times exept for in the shower and sleeping.

I want to try to find out what the long term results would be. After every 4 months i will increase the weight but i'm still not sure by how much.

Are you doing any strength training now? Are you doing any cardio? What are your specific goals? Are you looking to just increase your strength? I would be weary of using this type of training device. Adding access weight to your body will place a lot of unnecessary stress on your knees, back, and feet. Especially if you do not increase your strength surrounding those joints. Your muscles, tendons and ligaments are what help support these vital joints. If you do not increase your strength in the surrounding soft tissue you may end up doing long-term damage to your joints. There are plenty of other effective and safe methods to increase your strength, speed, and endurance than wearing weighted clothing.

I am taking a speed development class and i have a advanced conditioning class that i take. I am also doing wrestling at this point. My goals are simple, i just want to know the results of wearing weighted clothing. Thats why i'm asking b4 i actually try it. Keep the ideas, opinions, advice and study rolling i need as much input as i can get. Thanx

I have stayed out of this conversation until now because I have never really seen weighted clothing. I can't imagin that it would be harmful - except maybe to your bank account. I guess the idea would be something similar to doing cardio with those ankle weights on so that you get more of a resistance workout as well as the cardio. Why not try some of those first? They might not be as stylish as the clothing, but I bet they are cheaper and probably just as effective. If you want more, put a set on your wrists as well.

I will end up wearing the whole thing wrist weights, ankle weights and the weighted vests. That way i work out all of that. But this is why i need more info and ideas from you guys. I want som opinions here, thanx

The only thing to be wary of when using wrist and ankle weights is they put a lot of stress on the joints (particularly the knees and elbows), which can lead to strains or damage mostly form hyperextension of the joint.
A weighted vest is very useful. It benefits you in 2 ways. First it increases your body weight adding some beneficial stress to trunk supporting muscles and carrying muscles (legs, hips, etc.). It also tends to constrict your shoulders and chest making it harder to breath, which can greatly improve your endurance by exercising the muscles that are involved in inhaling (chest, shoulders, abs, etc.).
I used weighted vests and ankle and wrist weights, particularly while doing martial arts exercises and never had any adverse effects. When you take them off you feel like you are moving much faster and will never tire out.

I have worn that vest for quite awhile now. I got it in Dec and it in my opinion has helped out a great deal for my wrestling. But i want to increase my weight on my vest from 20 to 40 pounds now.

I have been interested in finding a weighted vest that I can wear on a daily basis. I would like one that is at least 20 pounds (with the option of adding additional weight), and comforms to your body (could easily be concealed under a t-shirt). I would also like it to not restrict movements (I would wearing it at work). Please let me know of any specific vests like this, and where I could get the best price on one.

Let's go back to the original point again for me.

Why do you want to wear a weighted vest? Give me some detailed ideas as to 'why'.

Thanks!

Well i figure... Think of it like this:

We get used to a lifestyle right ?
We get used to wearing cloths.
We get used to training and pratcicing the same routines.

Now what if we Were to wear weighted clothing like it were just a pair of cloths... We would wear it everyday through school and through wrestling practices.

Lets say we did this for about 4-8 months wouldnt we be used to that heavy weight on us all the time.?.? So when we take it off we would be much faster and feel much lighter then before..

That is just my theory but i donno yet..

I am 21 years old. I have taken martial arts for a couple of years now, and would like to finally get serious about it, and push myself a little more. I work all day and have a family of 4, so I don't have much time to work out besides conditioning during my lunch hour and the occassional after-work run. I feel confident in what my body can handle at this point in time. I would like to add some resistance to my training on a daily basis. I have no desire to bulk up, but rather increase my endurance.

Bad or Good?

Hmmm, I have never seen weighted clothing before or have heard of anyone using it. However, maybe you may have noticed, maybe not, sometimes joggers and walkers in particular will be wearing ankles weights which will improve your strength quickly. I do not know if these rules apply with your highschool or not, but wearing backpacks is good. If you carry around some of your heavier books up stairs and through halls, you will most definately feel a change in the weight. It will feel as if it is lighter. This is what happened to me. If you look at my lower back specifically, you will notice a very drastic change in my lower backs muscles size. I found this very startling just because they become enlarged so fast. My highschool is huge and has 2 floors so I am up and down them continuously. Therefore, I do not think you would be wearing that vest of yours as long. It's definately worth one hell of a shot. Who knows, you may even develop a new workout system. However, I think it may cause some severe long term effects if you plan to wear it four years. All the continous external weight on your legs and spine. It may cause damage. But I am no doctor so I can not give you a complete answer and this is only my opinion.

Well then mabe if i worked up from a smaller weight and worked up?

I figure if you get used to a lifestyle then you would be able to move up one more step and live out the next.

But you could be right i may just make problems on myself but would it be a problem if i were used to it or lived with it the whole life and didnt know about it? Because it would be normale to me....

But like you said who knows what could happen. No one knows and i will be the one to test it out......

Weighted clothing

I too have been thinking about getitng weighted clothing. I do not know where I can obtain it though, except ankle/wrist weights. Where can I buy weighted vests, and can I find a place to customize me weighted gear?

Yes there is a very good place you can buy one....

I bought mine there and have had it for over a year... I was practicing with it at 20 pounds but now moved to 40 pounds and i use it during wrestling practice..... It has helped me out a great deal but i am not consistant.... I must start wearing it more often so i keep in better shape...

I would definatly suggest this to anyone that is interested.... But make sure you are already in top shape before using this... If you are not at your physical peak then you may injury... good luck to you.... and if you can, could you keep us all posted on your results if you do get one?

yea
