Weigh Yourself Everyday (or frequently) Club

If describing a weight in terms of pounds in the UK - we would also use ounces and stones. I would never normally refer to something as being 14 pounds or more... Ounces are used less often by younger people... In fact - I suspect that some will think of their weight in kilograms and not pounds.

Shopping tends to be done in kilograms nowadays for veg etc. Its quite normal among older people to refer to 4 ounces ham, butter etc.

I think that a lot of schooling is done in just the metric system these days. I'm 60 - when I was young there was a lot of non-metric stuff to get your head around - pounds shilling and pence - stones, pounds and ounces - miles with furlongs...

Congratulations on your milestone! Or possibly weightstone :p

Good for you!!
I think that a lot of schooling is done in just the metric system these days.
I am not sure how much difference that makes, a lot of our school stuff in the US has been metric for years, but no real change. When I started college I was excited to find all of my science and engineering classes in metric. When I told my father that I expected we would be changing to the metric system as a result, he just laughed and said so were his. And I am older than you...

Keep up your good work! It is nice to see.

Thanks Rob.

I certainly think that people here would not be keen to change from miles to kilometres for distances on the roads. That is certainly all done in miles...

The English are pretty obstinate - and can be set in our ways :) :) :)

for scientific use, the metric system (MKS) makes sense, but in the real world, it doesn't. an inch/foot/yard are measurements you can easily visualize and are the right proportions for everyday use. mentally, the average human mind can more easily visualize numbers up to about 10. millimeters and centimeters are too small, meters are too large to be of practical use. sure i can say i'm 180 cm tall... but ~6' is so much easier to visualize.

for weights, it is about the same logic/ argument with oz/lbs. vs. g/kg.

for volume, liters.... ok, that was a good change.
today almost everyone can visualize a one or two liter bottle.
see... if the numbers stay low, it will generally be accepted.
still... a one gallon jug or a 55 gallon drum will be around for quite a while.

I so often wobble up after a new low
Everybody does, so long as the new lows keep coming you are losing weight, that is what matters. I know a woman who only records the new lows, not a bad way to go so long as the new lows keep coming.

You are doing great Margret, I am sure another new and lower low is coming soon.

Thanks for cheering me on Rob
