Yea, but the question I have is, is homestead the right place for me to grow this business through.

I don't like the idea of being stuck as a host.

And I'm completely ignorant so maybe it's no big deal.
Is homestead where you're going to be a year from now - probably not because i'd wager you will know a lot more and have a lot bigger ideas for your business... that homestead just won't support.. but a year in tech land is a long time - they might change their practices...

They don't tell you at the outset what they don't do only what they can do and they make it sound really attractive.. you really had no way of knowing what their capabilities weren't.

I still think at some point - probably not the first year but down the road you'll want to be on your own server -- but that's down the road... and a much bigger investment...

If someone owns your URL (your web address) you can buy it from them if they are willing to sell it.. if you own it... you should be able to take it with you elsewhere -however, i suspect there would be a fee involved...

That makes some sense. But I still have doubts in my mind, whether it's today or a year from now, how easy getting my 'data' from homestead to my own server or another host will be.

I mean, do I own the web domain or does homestead? Guess I should have read that mile long agreement I agreed with before jumping in.

Check

and enter your domain name and see who the owner of your domain is - technically you should be - but you never know (I just tried it and the site seems to be having some issues so wait a bit i'd say...)

Next I'd check homestead's policy on transferring domains and do all you can to work within their policies... if that fails..

is your friend...

Mal, I typed the name of my website in and found it interesting what popped up.

Any thoughts?

Ok now that's weird - when I was stalking you about 2 weeks ago - your address and name came up as site owner... it's different now.. that's odd

What happens if you go to here -

and enter your URL - then your login name and password for your site - the one i think you'd used to get to Homestead...

can you login at that point? and edit the info?

There was an error when I attempted to login.

However, I just called homestead and they assured me that I do own the domain. That Tucows is simply where it's kept for safe keeping... but it's mine if I want to take it and go to another host... so he said.

welll that's good then...

just odd that about 2 weeks ago - the info came up as I'd expect and today it's different - do you know if you changed anything in your permissions or preferences about hiding your info? that'd be one reason why it might show up like that - some people want the anonyminity behind the site...

I just dont know where that preference would be

I haven't changed a thing... nor would I know how, lol.

Totally unrelated to this...

I started chatting on another weight loss forum a few days ago. Some people recognized me from other forums and said nice things about me. In that same thread, I was helping someone understand some fundamental principles to dieting. Along comes a fantastic fucktard of a trainer and says she/he was surprised by how little I understand about nutrition saying things like, "you MUST eat 6 meals per day if you are going to realize optimal results" and "if you don't eat every 2-3 hours you'll go into starvation mode."

Needless to say we got into a little 'spat' and the trainer says something like, 'it's ok steve, at least i'm not here with a hidden agenda like <insert the domain name of my website here>.

I was so pissed.

Oh I was hot... I guess they just searched my name or something... I'm not sure how they figured it out.

Well you are hot - it's no wonder you've got people stalking you ... I do it regularly - only i usually tell you i do it :D
