The walking, hiking, jogging and running club

7 miles hike, you are doing good! I need to do some yard work too! I really need to sow grass in spots. The weather has been warm here and I try to stay outside as much as I can.

Keep up the good work!

Went on a run this morning. I went ~2.5 miles at 11min/mile pace. I could not maintain a running pace the entire route yet, but the fact I got up and starting going is encouraging.

On a not unrelated note, is anyone else using runkeeper.com? I have a Bluetooh heart rate monitor that works with my phone.

I've just started using the runkeeper app, but don't have a heart rate monitor :(

I don't run so I don't have any of those things

I walked 2 miles outside and worked 2 hrs in the yard.

I was supposed to hike today but I had to stay around the house and wait for some workers to start work on my house. I'm getting a lot of work done on my house. Stucco repairs and having some wood work redone then when there done I'm getting the house painted. This is all outside.

This is a great idea! I'm about to start taking up running/walking/jogging now that i'm out living on my own.

Couple questions from a noobie though,

1. is it better to run early in the morning, or late in the evening? or does it really not matter at all.

2. for someone just beginning, how long/far should i be doing and how often?

any help would be appreciated! thanks

Hi Ktalu,

I don't think it matters when you go as long as you do it. I think it's a personal choice. As how long or how far if you haven't walked, jogged or ran for a while then you should start out a little at a time and work yourself up to longer and farther. Once you start you;ll some be able to tell just how much you can do. I started out walking just 1/2 mile a day and now I can hike 7 mile up steep hills at a good pace without any problems. Good luck!

Today I walked 2 miles outside. It was such a nice day. Tomorrow a hike in the morning in the hills with the fitness club.

Friday: 6.25 Miles (total) - brisk walk (first 2), then uphill (600 foot climb total) - 4 miles jogging, last 0.25 walking
Saturday: 6.25 Miles (total) - brisk walk (first 2), then uphill (600 foot climb total) - 4 miles jogging, last 0.25 walking
Sunday: 6.25 Miles (total) - brisk walk (first 2), then uphill (600 foot climb total) - 4 miles jogging, last 0.25 walking
Today: walk briskly - 4.95 miles total - 67 minutes.

Hey Melancholy, Your really put on some miles in a few days. Great going!

2 mile walk up and down hills in 30 min.

6 mile hike. It's getting warm out here so we decided we'll go earlier for our next hike on Thursday. We're expecting high 80's on Thursday.

Hiked early today. 7miles then I came home and worked in the yard for 2 hrs spraying the weeds. Then went shopping and bought some new clothes.

Walked for 4 miles and jogged for about a 1/16 mile, I know pathetic, but considering that I am a person that never runs, (I believe it is something that should only be done if your life is in peril, ie. dog chasing you, serial killer chasing you, or ice-cream truck not stopping when you shout out:)

And you know what, next time I am going to try for 1/8 of a mile, my goal is to be able to run/jog 4 miles along with walking 4 miles by my birthday.... heres to good luck...

That's not pathetic! That's great that you walked 4 miles. If you want to jog you'll get there it just takes time to work yourself up to longer jogs.

Walked 2 miles outside even though it was 87. I drank a lot of water. Tomorrow it's supposed to be cooler so I think I might go on a hike in the morning.

Walked 2 miles outside today. The weather has cooled down again so in the morning unless it;s raining I'm going for a hike.

I'm only going to do this if i do something different because i know i will sound totally repetitive if i were to note every time i take this walk.

I'm walking on my 8km circuit every second day. 1.6 km = 1 mile so in miles its 5 miles. Its on the flat with only gentle gradients. But its outside through cane fields, crossing bridges over fast running creeks and there's nice things to see, though after doing the same walk many times it does get boring too. Some of it is along the highway. I like it that i don't have to go back on my tracks. This used to be my running circuit though its been quite a while since i've done any running.

Took a 6 mile hike on the 7th and an 8 mile hike today. We climbed a mountain today so in all it took us 5 1/2 hrs to do this hike. It was a trail I have never been on. My hiking partner and I took this primitive trail where sometimes it was hard to find the trail and there were places we had to scoot on our butt's going down because it was so steep!. We used a map and a compus to find our way at times. But we had a lot of fun and the views were so beautiful! We did encounter a few others along the way where we would all confirm that we were going on the right trail.

Long week last week!

Monday (4/4) - 6 miles
Tuesday - 6.5 miles
Thursday - 5.5 miles
Friday - 6.0 miles
Saturday - 7.4 miles
Sunday - 6.5 miles

All were running/ jogging, with an average pace of 10.5 minutes/ mile... getting ready for a 1/2 marathon on 5/1. Not sure if I am going to do it yet, as I am waiting for the legs to feel a little better, but planning on doing a 10.5 mile "confirmation" run this coming weekend, and if that goes well, I will register for the 1/2 marathon!

6 miles, average pace 11 minutes.
