Skyler,

The seafood sounds awesome! I'm jealous. :) After Thanksgiving hubby and I went to Key West, and we could not seem to get enough of seafood! It is all so delicious!

I went horse riding, and just got back. So tired from it! That's my exercise for today. I really need to step up aerobic exercise at home to condition myself for riding. Today I was out of breath way faster then my horse!

I am not really sure why I was loosing weight. I felt like I overate a few days, but I also got a lot more activity then I usually have. Who knows, maybe variety is helping?

Variety IS the spice of life! Sorry I haven't been here all weekend it's been really hectic around here. I admit that I haven't been very good over the weekend. We had huge buffet lunches both days but they were our food for the whole day so when you count totals it wasn't that bad! Lots of walking with all the shopping and errand running. I'm totally exhausted. The week is starting so I can get back on schedule! Ok, tomorrow I'm going to get a new cd player for my walking. The old one finally died. Got a new pedometer for Christmas and just figured out how to use it. I'm also thinking about getting some ankle weights. What do you think?

i've heard positive and negative re: the ankle weights. if they are light enough and don't bother you or your knees (more importantly), then try it out, just be cautious of how your body is feeling..

yes, i agree, variety is GREAT. it is tricking your body somewhat which is very important. i am trying and focusing on changing up the different foods, etc, just making sure i stay within 'range' of calories and get that exercise in...

did get a comment from my pilates teacher that she said i looked thinner....guess that is good , i guess fit from the exercise, but why am i SOOOOO stuck on the # on the scale?

April, sounds like you did ok. I am sure all that walking helped burn off quite a bit of your food. :) Glad you're back with us! :)

Sorry, I have no experience with ancle weights for walking, but I do use them for strength exercises for my legs/butt, and that's working very well.

Skyler, if you're getting comments like that, that means you're getting toned enough to see the difference! Whoo-hoo! I bet the reason you are staying at the same weight is because you are gaining muscle and loosing fat at the same time. Don't worry, muscle is much trimmer then fat, so you will look much better even in the same weight range. I think maybe measuring body fat % may help you better then just measuring weight itself. The good news about adding muscle is that it will raise your metabolism, so it will be easier to burn fat in the future! So, you may need to hang on a little more before you will start seeing numbers going down, but for right now don't concentrate on the number so much!

So, whatever you are doing is working, you just have to keep going!

I am planning on being pretty good throughout the day, but unfortunately, we have a guest at the house and there maybe a possibility of going out to a restaurant tonight. I say "unfortunately" because that is my pitfall - I cannot eat just a little bit when all the food is right in front of me. Plus, the restaurant is italian food, and it is very-very rich, but oh, so good! And I cannot order just a salad, b/c I think that the only reason of going to restaurant is to have something absolutely tasty and exquisite, something you don't eat every day. Although there is nothing wrong with taking leftovers home, I just have to work on taking more of them home. :)

I will check in later!

Good morning all. I'm eating oatmeal. A good start, i'd say ;). Anybody heard from Pinky/Rhonda?? Plan for today is 1050 calories split into 4-5 small meals, elliptical when i get home from work and LOTS of water! How are yall? any challenges, frustrations, successes? I know NTL has been dropping weight - hoorah!!! This challenge is going by fast. Two days and we are one week left! Pinky, hope you are feeling better and not so selfdefeated. We are here for you, so write in and we'll help in any way we can. Rhonda, how's the non-smoking? That's gotta be tough. Hope everyone is great.

Hey guys.. sorry for the lack of replying. This weekend has been hectic.. however.. due to some nasty comments made towards me on sat night behind my back.. i am determined to loose the weight! So i went to the gym today.. managed to burn 474cal and i plan to do the same or more tomorrow too. the weight is going to go god damn it!

Hope you guys are going well. :D

oh goodness. people are so cruel. i'm sorry that is terrible. at least you are using it as a motivator as opposed to crawling up and forgetting about your efforts. you'll show them!! (and yourself, most importantly)

Hi, Pinky!

Nasty comments behind back is not nice at all! But guess what? You will show them! Then the only comments you will hear is how great you look!

Good job on the gym! Way to go!

You guys are probably tired of me posting all the time! LOL...

I'm doing ok so far today, but not great. Had almost 900 cals already, and then for dinner is a dreaded restaurant trip. I have no idea how to eat 300 cals in a restaurant! So, most likely, I will be over the limit today, which really sucks. So far I only lost 1/2 lb from the beginning of a challenge, and we have only 2 more days left before the 1st week is over, it is scaring me! Plus, I'm also on the upswing of my water weight cycle, b/c I did not drink enough for couple of days, now my body is retaining water like crazy. I'm trying to drink up a lot at work to reduce this nasty trend.
My only hope is to ride the bike later tonight. Need to get a good workout.

Hope Rosered is doing ok!

we aren't tired of hearing from you!!!!! go for some yummy italian with a NON cream sauce base and salad - try to steer away from the bread - that should help some...fill up on some greens. And the bike will help! ONLY 1/2 LB?!?!??!! stop that. lol. that is great, don't be scared. you know you are doing great, remember all your efforts & be positive! enjoy your dinner/night out...

Thanks, Skyler! You're the best motivator/pep talker. I think you deserve a prise for that!

I will do my best tonight! Ha-ha! Steering away from bread will be the hardest, because this restaurant has the best garlic bread ever! It has actual small garlic slices all over it, yumm! I'm going to have a little sliver, but that's it! I'd rather go easy on pasta. Definitely no white/cream sauce, I can do that! Their marinara/spaghetti sauce is really good tho. Ok, I feel ready to tackle the restaurant challenges now. :D Whoo-hoo!

too funny. a prize? how about a loss? i'll take that!
yumm! that garlic bread sounds delicious. i hear ya on that one!!

hmm garlic bread.. i love bread.. damn i miss it.

Okaayyy.. so i overslept. :( Which means no gym for me today. haha Off to Uni i go for a full day of lectures.

Am working again tonight.. really cant be bothered.

Good morning, all!

Pinky, sounds like you're having a busy day today! All the best! Just stay light in your food and you'll be fine.

Skyler, I'd give you a 10lb loss if I could! I think you're totally deserve it! :D

Well, after putting last nights' restaurant dinner in fitday I'm about at 1350, which is not that bad, however, that's just a big estimate. You never know how much fat they inject the food with, LOL. The food was delicious though, I really enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, I did not do well on exercise. After we came home I was so tired. Plus, DOMS kicked in after riding horse Sunday and my legs were really sore.

But, my legs felt better this morning. I stretched and did some strength exercises. Planning on walking the stairs for lunch and riding the bike after dinner.

Hope everyone is doing well today!

BTW, where is Rosered? We have not heard from her in a while.

Wow, NTL, you did great with controlling the calories. Yes, it is always an estimate with dinners out but that is good. Not sure about Rosered.

I had a GREAT day yesterday - 1 hour on the elliptical, 950 calories eaten (all spread out in small meals), 65 oz water....weighed in this am and NOTHING lost. I honestly wanted to throw my scale out the window but i just can't believe it. I have been SO good for a while now and nothing is coming off. I am so confused/bothered/annoyed/ frustrated..you name it...still doing my thing, but honestly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANGRY S TODAY!!!!!

Thanks, Skyler!

I have been feeling like I've been overeating lately, even though fitday still says I'm in acceptable range, mostly because of eating out due to travel and activities. So I feel kind of guilty and slightly scared that my weight loss may slow down due to those "bad" days. But, I can't dwell on the past, have to concentrate on the future, right?

I hear your frustrations, girl. But, it sounds like you had a great day, and with that much exercise and small calories intake, your efforts will pay off! Just concentrate on having good days like these, and be proud of them!

overall progress

Hi, all!

Well, I started this weight loss thing seriously a month ago and have been tracking my measurements with fitday. I decided that I would measure myself once a month to see my progress. Well, in a month I lost 5 lbs, and as hard and tedious as it was I am very happy about this result!

Here we go:

Neck: lost 1/4 inch
Bicep: unchanged
Forearm: lost 1/4 inch
Chest: lost 1/2 inch
Waist: lost 1/2 inch
Hips: lost 1/4 inch
Thigh: lost 1/2 inch
Calf: gained 1/4 inch (that's probably from increased exercise)

This was an interesting study. I definitely need to loose about 20 lbs in order to look like I want to look. Whether that actually happens, I don't know, I'm just doing it 10 lbs at a time! I hope as I loose more lbs more inches proportionally will go away.

I was not noticing clothes fitting particularly looser, so the result is not surprising to me. However, I was hoping that 5 lb loss would result in slightly more inches. Oh, well, we'll see what happens in a month. I am glad to see the measurement progress though!

The drop in measurements is fantastic for 5 pounds! People expect too much because of stupid commercials that say things like I lost 12 pounds and 15 inches. Well, it's true but the 15 inches is a total from 12 different measurements. So, based on that, add up all those 1/2 and 1/4 inches and see what you get! You are doing great! I wish I could say that I was doing really well and eating all kinds of good healthy meals but the truth is I've been running around like a loon and just grabbing something when I can. Not the best choices and my calorie intake has actually dropped. I figured up yesterday and today and I only got about 800 cals each day! I guess that kind of makes up for the fact that they were mostly "bad" calories! I'm having grilled chicken fajita for dinner. Only one tortilla and low fat cheese!

Thanks, April!
I've never actually tracked inches before, so I had no idea what to expect! My overall "inch" loss is 2 inches! Whoo-hoo! :D

I've also done 30 minutes on the bike today! That was quite an accomplishment! I have not been able to exercise for that long in ages!

I'm having chicken fajita for dinner too! I'm using medium size tortillas, and the whole thing comes out to 350 calories, and it tastes awesome!

Sounds like you've been doing great on calories, April! Its really hard to eat well if you don't have time to prepare or at least plan good meals. But, when you have a chance, treat yourself to a nutritious meal! I figure that life is not perfect, so we can't be perfect all the time either! Plus, then life would be so boring! :p

Ok, apparently I did not do so well on calories yesterday. 1300! Yuck. What sucks, is that after riding my bike I got a low blood sugar, and I had to eat a rice crispie to feel better, which of course basically negated most of the calories I burned by biking. On top of that today I'm hungrier!

Do you guys have any advice how I can add some lean protein to my oatmeal? The problem is that it feels me up at first, but then 2 hrs later I feel empty and hungry. I noticed when I eat more protein for breakfast I stay full longer. But lean meat does not really go with oatmeal. Any ideas?

so i figured it out and i am consuming an average of 1150 per week. that is right where i should be to lose 1 lb per week but it aint happenin'! sticking with it, no question there, but my goodness, this stuff is hard work!

ntl- great on your measurements - i think i need to do the same and track that as well. also, that is awesome that you did 30 min. on the bike. a step in the right direction. the low blood sugar thing stinks but you still go cardio out of the exercise and inner body conditioning. do you ever have a light snack before you exercise? that may help. 1/2 an apple and some lowfat cottage cheese sometimes help. just a thought. as for the protein with oatmeal, that's a tough one. not too sure what you like, and what fills you up, but possibly, milk or yogurt with your oatmeal and some fruit for fiber should make you feel fuller longer. that works for me, but not sure for you.

as for me, i took out my frustrations at the bar last night. 3 vodka martinis. oops! calories came in right at 1250 though and since i was at 800 the day before, i figure it evens out okay (hopefully). the part that stinks is i got no exercise in but i haven't taken a day off in a while and i think my body needed to rest as i feel ready to tackle the elliptical when i get home tonight.
