Weight-Loss Tea Talk

Weight-Loss
Yeah, I can't come at more expensive than I pay, at least most of the time. I think what I buy is worthwhile, though. The most expensive stuff I buy is from Whittard of Chelsea, and I really like it. That's about $5.50US for 125g (4.5oz)- it went up recently. (It's not the most expensive stuff they do, but I can't come at that)

Popular tea flavors around the world
~Many flavors are available but these are of the most popular~

Japan- roasted rice flavor
India- cinnamon spice
United States- iced black
Hong Kong- lemon
Portugal- peach
Switzerland- peppermint
Turkey- mango
Italy- apple
China- chrysanthemum

Love teas of many kinds

Tea to me is so amazing because there are so many different flavors. Your possible flavor outcomes are endless. You can mix Sweden's popular choice of peppermint with Hong Kong's popular choice of Lemon and come up with something great. Why stop there? There are so many teas across the globe. I can imagine mixing a bunch of flavors from around the world and getting a phenomenal result. Mmmm. Earth tea!

Japan- roasted rice flavor

This is my favourite at the moment. In Korean, I think it's called nok-cha (?) and in japanese, it's genmaicha. Lovely, lovely stuff. :) Just a blend of green tea and roasted brown rice, but it's so warming and nutty! And as a plus - after a few cups, if there were any blocked pores on my face, they're all open. I feel like it gets my body moving in the same way dandelion root tea does, but it's a bit less pushy, if that makes any sense.

Love this thread, Emerald. Thanks for starting it! I'll definitely be back to read more later, and add what I can. (Apologies if I've interrupted a conversation, btw. I've only read the first two pages.)

Green Tea May Ward Off Weight Gain
But You'd Have to Drink a Lot of Tea to Match Preliminary Lab Tests in Mice

Jan. 23, 2008 -- The benefits of green tea might include blocking fat and keeping extra pounds at bay, according to preliminary lab tests in mice.

Don't skip over that word "preliminary." There's no proof yet that sipping green tea will do the same for people. Staying in shape continues to be a balancing act between calories and activity.

Here's what those preliminary lab tests in mice show:

* Less weight and fat gain. Among mice with an obesity gene, those that ate chow laced with green tea extract gained less weight and less fat.
* Less fat in the liver. There was less sign of "fatty liver" disease in the mice with the obesity gene that ate chow laced with green tea extract.
* Lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in mice with the obesity gene that ate the chow laced with green tea extract, compared to other mice with the same obesity gene.

A healthy liver isn't fatty. But obesity -- in mice or in people -- can lead to fatty buildup in the liver and cause nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

As for that green tea extract, the study used it in doses equal to what a person would get from drinking at least seven cups of green tea a day.

The University of Connecticut's Richard Bruno, PhD, RD, and colleagues report their findings in February's edition of The Journal of Nutrition.

Welcome to Tea Talk!
I think that was the most amusing one. Roasted Rice flavor. Is it true that it could taste like popcorn sometimes? That would be neat. ^_^ I would like to try it.

Just ordered loose teas from Teavana.

Two I’m about to try for the first time. One of them is liked by one of our member friends Geekynoob. The third is a staple of the house (Samurai Chai).

The two new teas are

Gyokuro Genmaicha 5/5 stars

Description
This exceptional shade-grown Gyokuro green tea is paired with genmai toasted brown rice for a highly aromatic and nutty green tea blend. Remarkably fragrant, the high quality Imperial Gyokuro used in this blend improves traditional Genmaicha and adds nuanced flavor you will appreciate.

Ingredients: Gyokuro green tea and toasted brown rice.

Mate' Vana 4.5/5 stars
Description
A deliciously smooth herbal tea that is perfect for coffee lovers. It does contain caffeine, but many people have a different reaction to this stimulant since it is blended with the other natural xanthines found in Mate (theophylline and theobromine). Together they create energy without jitteriness or addictive tendencies. This tea is also a wonderful diet tea, since it curbs hunger. MateVana does contain nuts.
Ingredients: Roasted Mate leaves, cocoa kernels, rooibos tea, chocolate chips (sugar, cocoa mass, cocoa powder), flavoring, white cocoa butter splits (sugar, cocoa butter, dextrose), almonds, cactus blossoms, sunflower petals and cornflower petals.
This tea contains nuts.

I'm crossposting this from my diary- how I make tea. I use an infuser (which allows the tea more room to circulate, and the tea comes out a valve at the bottom, which means I get little-no leaves in my tea), and store in the containers shown (I also use them for coffee), which keep tea fresh for ages and ages (not so good at coffee but better than anything else I've found). (And yes, I weigh my milk) This kind of system is brilliant, I think.

Cool to hear you're going to try it! If you've never had rice or barley tea before, you're in for a treat. I have to try the chocolate tea you listed...

I've heard it compared to popcorn, but I've actually had popcorn in a tea once-upon-a-regrettable-time and the comparison is a stretch. The scent is a tiny bit closer to puffed rice, if you've ever had that old cereal. But I'm terrible at descriptions and the one your supplier gave was pretty spot-on.

Still haven't gotten through the thread -- I don't have enough time for the internet atm -- but I'm really looking forward to finding some gems. Thanks for the warm welcome to the thread.

This looks like fun! I love feeling like a mad scientist in the kitchen, so your system appeals muchly.

:covetous:

I'm embarrassed to say I don't have one. I haven't had much in the way of tannin stains in mine (all of my mugs are under two years old, but I think they'd become stained much quicker than that). I have a dedicated tea mug and it's still nearly as white as the day I bought it! :(

I've cracked open a new packet of tea leaves- a type I haven't tried before. "China" tea (Sainsbury's "Taste the Difference" brand). First impressions are that it has a strong smell, its leaves are bigger than I'm used to (I usually get Ceylon, and the leaves are usually very small), and that pouring the water in the colour seems quite pale. Am currently infusing. (infusion time 4 minutes)

...

Just put it in the mug and have started to drink. It's quite a bit paler than Ceylon would come out with the same infusion length. A smokey/ woody flavour, different but I like it. I'm glad I used marginally less tealeaves than I normally would as it's come out stronger than I expected it to.

A lot of white teas give me that impression. I think they are too pale or maybe they seem like they will not have a strong flavor maybe because of the smell/color or something like that and then they really surprise me. lol That's what Strawberry Paraiso did.

Yesterday was the most tiring day that I've had so far this year. Class started back up for the summer term for me yesterday. But I hadn't slept in around 20 hours before class (I have been nocturnal since school last let out from the spring term and just couldn't get back on track before the first day of class) yet I still had to start the day at 6am and my Bio class finally let us out at 9:15pm.
Black tea would have helped me more than the Refresh-Tazo I was drinking. But it's ok... I know for next time. I came home and slept very well. It's now 7:42am and I feel alright but I shouldn't have tried to workout with my husband. I got dizzy and stopped. I need to wait until I've slept more and I've eaten a sustaining amount of food. Time for some black tea. I love black tea...

Hi tea drinkers

I haven't been on for a week or so. Been busy so I just caught up. That Mate'Vana tea sounds good. I think I could use the energy!

I have an infuser but have never tried it for tea. I think I'd better find it so I can try it on the organic black Indian tea I have.

I've been drinking a lot of iced tea lately. Still working on "The Wall". 56ft completed! I've had roofers here all week banging and stomping all over the roof! I'm so glad they finished today!

Here's to drinking TEA!

My tea arrived yesterday. Last night we tried Genmaicha (the whole room all of a sudden smelled like I was toasting nuts lol) and this morning we're brewing up some Mate'Vana. mmMMMmm ^_^ Can't wait.

I'll most likely give my take on them soon. As for now, it's 5:41am and I'm ready for tea lol

(Genmaicha pics below. Sorry for the messy table. Can you see the toasted rice bits? lol)
