Sparrows Experiment

Busy rainy day. Sundays just are anyway. I ran out with a bite of a "balance bar" this morning to church. I felt like I totally OD'd on protein yesterday so I didn't mind the hunger feeling and downing some coffee to feel a bit "cleaned out" if you know what I mean
I had a big chicken breast and 2c stir fried frozen veggies with nothing on them for lunch but when I was cutting fudge up later I did have a small piece :( God forbid. lol. wow it was amazing too.
I feel like I haven't worked out FOREVER even though its only been since Friday. I wake up each day intending to go before my family is even up but I'm back to my insomnia nights and end up falling asleep somewhere around 2-3am many nights. Its pretty annoying. Mornings are less than thrilling :(
I'm glad tomorrow is Monday. Weekends, although fun and restful just tend to mess me up!

Monday Monday

B-1/2 protein bar
L-3oz ground turkey, 1 can green beans

D-Dinner out with my daughter: HUGE blackened chicken salad with probably 1/4c shreaded parm cheese on top, 1T caesar dressing :( 1oz french bread, bite of zuchinni bread :( :( 3 of her french fries
S- bite of "stew" the rest of the fam had for dinner, small handful of cheerios (lol. now I was just bored and craving junk), 1 bite brownie w frosting :( :( :(
as Wendy says "so much for clean eating"..

Workout:
1 hour Spin level 4
3x15 body rows
SLDL 3x12@70lb
Bulgarian split squats 3x12@20lb bar
pause bench press 3x10@60lb
dips assisted at 50lb
Decline push ups 3x10
3x12@20lb DB rows
3x15 side lateral raise 8lb
planks
jackknifes on stability ball holding pike for 5 sec 3x10

The workout wiped me and I felt weak as far as I didn't want to push hard. I did the best I could. I kinda cheated in spin at certain points where I just didn't have it in me to dig deep and increase resistance or "race". The full body workout kicked my butt, especially after the spin class. Thats gonna be a really good thing

Cute pix :)

How do you feel since you've started crosstraining (not sure if you did so before since running seemed to be your focus) anything different?

Hey Stingo!

I crosstrained when I ran a lot but the difference right now is that I'm dividing and balancing more. I'm spinning 2 times/wk, swimming 2x/wk and either elipitcal or run 2x/wk. when I ran I only swam once and did eliptical once each week. Another difference is that I've started a full body workout 3 times a week that mainly uses my body weight for resistance. Weights put on mass for me and my body seems genetically predisposed to bulk easily which I don't think looks very good on my frame. I like the leaner more "defined" look, but still curvy (which I already have little of!) But anyway, so far its really a good challenge! Thanks for asking!

I'm posting my tomorrows stuff tonight so I have a clear game plan. I think I'll try and do this from now on and edit the post as to what worked or not-later in the day.
I am still quite sore in my hams so tomorrow will be interesting

L-1.5c kashi "go lean" cereal, 1/4c milk, 6 egg whites
S-15 almonds, 1/2c cottage cheese
D-6oz chicken breast, 1/2 c sauteed mushrooms, 1 pancake :( (kids had breakfast for dinner)
Gym: 1 hour spin (might bail at 45 min) or 4 mi run or 45 min eliptical ;)

Bulgarian Splits w 15lb bar 3x10
SLDL 70lb 2x12
Body Rows w/feet on bench or step 2x15
superset w/ pause bench 60lb 2x10
Assisted chins (assisted 50lb) 2x10 pro/sup
superset w/Assisted dips 2x12
DB shoulder press 2x12 15 lb
superset w/ lateral raise 2x12 10lb

Gym time was harder today. I was still very sore and tight in my hamstrings. I opted to do spin again. My arms were VERY tired from, I dunno, maybe swimming yesterday so in the spin class they tired just from holding the bar of the bike. I struggled to keep my form on my weights and to keep the weight load I did on Monday. BUT I did it and tomorrow I'll do a light "active rest" recovery workout. Thats what got me through.

I third that.

Aww thanks guys :) Thats so nice of you :D They are amazing kids ;)

Today I'm taking the day off. I had planned to swim but I woke up to FREEZING and just couldn't do it. I've had such a hard time sleeping lately I figured why disrupt a good thing (I was actually SLEEPING last night!). I have hit the week hard so I felt I needed the day off to do well for tomorrows workout.
I just edited my diet entry above to reflect what I revised today. I know I'm still pretty low calorie and I need to be more conscious of keeping the number higher. I know I still hover around 1200-1300 on most days. its where I'm most comfortable, but its not necessarily a good thing.

Can y'all believe its December tomorrow already! The fun begins!

Bummer. Workout this morning kinda sucked.

10 min walk 4.0 tread
3x15 bulgarian splits w/22 lb bar
2x15@20lb db press
2x12@60lb pause bench
2x15@20lb db row
2x12@10lb hyperextentions
2x15 @70lb lat pulldown (assisted chins was occupied)
20 min swim (40 laps various sets)

yeah I could hardly do anything today. I was totally fatigued after weights, and even my lifting sucked. In the pool my legs were dead weights and my arms were just sceaming with fatigue so I stayed in as long as I could stand it. Kinda bummed. ah well.

B-2scoops whey in water, 1/2 bagel :( (this was impulsive)
L-1c spaghetti squash w/ butter spray and 1T parm cheese, 2c salad w/basamic and drizzle olive oil, 4-5oz chicken
S-15 almonds, 1/2c cottage cheese
D- 4oz carne asada, 2T ff sr cream, sauteed onion/bell pepper, 2c lettuce, 1oz cheese

Well, we all have those off-days. Keep going though! When are your rest days? U can do it!!! :D

I can't believe it's December! YIKES! Where'd the time go?

I had a rest day yesterday hoping to go strong today. I think the new routine is just "different" and maybe i need a few more rest days while I get used to it

...and I know, December! We're going to chop down our tree after kids get out of school today! fun fun!

I have no idea where we are going to put ours once we get it. The place we normally put it is now home to the computer. We won't get ours until a week or two before. The house will be decorated before then.

Well I ate a little too liberally last night. I have intense cravings for junk lately and I'm not sure where they're coming from. Is it that I strayed one day and then they all came back? Or is it that I"m missing something? Or do I need more water? ugh. its annoying and I'm having a hard time keeping my will power for some reason, which was never as much of a problem before.
I wasn't so much BAD but the goal is "clean" and it definitely wasn't that.
This morning it carried over into a few bites of cinnimon bread before I got ahold of myself and made a protein shake. UGH. SO anyway, being aware of the struggle today I will work on being very "good". I'm not working out today, even though I want to. My legs are totally thrashed from the little I did yesterday. LOL. I think its the bulgarian splits. THey kill me!

Ugh...cravings....I hate them with a passion. They are so hard to get ahold of. Good luck today! I know how hard it is; I think we all do.

Yeah the weekend has been hard food wise! weird. You give your body an inch and it'll take a mile :(
I love Sundays though because I'm one of those "do over on Monday" sort of gals. I really wanted to get to the gym after church today but we have a staff Christmas party in only 2 hours so there goes that. I hope I can be strong. After dinner at Macaronni Grill we have a huge dessert feast at one of the staff's house along with gift exchange. Has anyone ever tried carb blockers? Just wondering ;) haha. I actually already know I can stick "to plan" at the restaurant. Its the dessert that will test me in every way!

Tomorrow I'll hit the week strong. My legs are STILL sore! We'll see what the week brings but I'm determined to work out the diet more. I think if I go back to a "cheat meal" on Saturday I can sustain the strict lifestyle more easily. "Cheat" meaning a half cup of "no sugar added" ice cream, or a hoagie sandwich :) ha. I know because I'm so close to where I want to be its going to be longer and harder to get what I want. I believe the bulk of my progress at this point will show through consistent clean eating. The workout part I have down. For me, the diet has to be pretty exreme because my body doesn't typically cooperate well. I'd say I'm eating clean 90% of the time..but thats not cutting it for where I want to be.
Anyway, I guess its quite a bit to shoot for during the holidays, but darned if I don't try anyway! I'll post my diet this week and I'd love feedback as to what I can do better if you happen to stop by!
