Sparrows Experiment

Took yesterday off AND had a cheat meal at NIGHT (don't ever do that). Double whammy. Yes I felt disgusting when I woke up. Serves me right. I actually couldn't sleep in at all so I got up at 6am and went for a 6 mile jog. While it was nice to be in the fresh air so early, I was surprised at how tough it was come mile 5-6. I'd like to blame it all on my huge bowl(s) of brownie ice cream with extra caramel binge last night

I actually haven't had one of those kinds of cheats for a very long time

After the run I went to the gym to swim 3000 painful yards and felt a little more virtuous about my shameful ways :)

The soul needs nourishing too now and again. I'd like to think brownie ice cream (or in my case, beer) goes a ways to filling that bill.

haha I like how you think Stingo.

Today I lifted NROL with a friend and did an hour pilates class. Pilates is fun and points out how darn inflexible I am :(

Okay, got sore from pilates. How lame is that. Ha. Well I could be sore from NROL too I guess. Yesterday I did go up a few weights. Squatting 125 from 115, bicep curls 20 from 15, seated row 80 from 75 and the rest are body weight exercises. I refuse to go UP on those :) ha ha.

Today I did Mr. Motivation's spin class. He wasn't very inspiring today. I don't think he wanted to be there. lol. I made the most of it anyway. He did a lot of long stretches of time just riding-which I actually LIKE but I know others don't.

After that I did a swimplan.com workout. I posted this link somewhere in the running/cycling thread. Its a GREAT site and is going to make me work. here was the workout today

6x100 warm up (held around 1:30) left on 1:40

drill work 3X through:
1x100 one arm free .10 rest
1x100 catch up free .10 rest

main set:
10x50 free hold .40 sec, leave on .50 sec (I held 38 comfortably)
4x100 free hold 1:25, leave on 1:40 (I held 1:22's comfortably)
2x200 free hold 2:50, leave on 3:20 (1 held 2:47's comfortably)
10x50 free hold .40 leave on .50 sec (I hit it dead on comfortably)

cool down
2x100 breaststroke

ha yes maybe. What I mean is I'm not going to gain weight to increase my body weight resistance! lol. but maybe you caught onto that ;)

Today I did pilates again. Different instructor and completely different way of doing things. It was more of a yoga/ballet/pilates type class which was awkward at the start for me, because I don't see myself as very graceful! Not as intense as Tuesdays but I'm still sore so I didn't care. It was very relaxing. I was surprised how calm and happy I felt after it.

After that I did workout B of NROL-kind of defeated the whole "calm/happy/relaxed" feeling!

Then only had 35 min left till my childcare time was up so I did some cardio.

T/TH have turned into my unconventional workout days. Unconventional for me anyway. I've decided to make pilates a regular fixture in my routine.

Swim day.

I am feeling so strong again with regular swimming, its wonderful to have back

warm up
6x100 alternate 100 free/100 back .10 rest

Drill work 2x through:
4x50 breast stroke double kick .10 rest
1x100 breast stretch and power .15 rest

4x100 holding 1:20 leave on 1:45
4x100 holding 1:20 leave on 1:40
4x100 holding 1:20 leave on 1:35

cool down:
4x50 choice .10 rest

I held 1:20 for the main set through and through, although of course it was easier when I was getting more rest at the beginning. At the end I concentrated on the walls (strong fast flip turns) and longer tighter streamlines without breathing the first stroke off the turn. That all made a big difference in keeping my pace.

7 mile "long run" outside with a friend in an hour. It wasn't difficult today.

6 mile run around the "big block". Took my 9 yr old to ride her bike next to me. I generally don't like the distraction but she is awfully fun to be with and made it go very fast. Dispite stopping periodically to help her navigate a curb or slowing up to avoid some idiots in cars, I still managed a very comfortable feeling 8:40 pace. We even did some math-area of the "rectangle" we ran based on my Garmin, and fractions of each long road that were broken up in segments by side streets. funny.

Dyin to hear about FF's marathon in the ironman race today.

1 hour pilates class

swim:
6x100 free @ 1:45 These were warm up but I was still coming in at 1:20 cruise speed
4 groups of 3x100
1. back @1:45 2. breast@2:00 3. free@1:45
4x100 butterfly kick on back (work those abs) .10 rest
cool down

That pilates class is still not easy for me to relax in. I want to move, and sweat and be torn up at the end of it-but of course, thats not its purpose. I have vowed to continue to go because I know slowing down and being productive in a DIFFERENT way is good for me. It is fun, and interesting and embarrassing all at the same time. While I have really great core strength and balance, I'm soooooo inflexible and its noticeable there. Those hammies are SO tight all the time.

Well I'm already on the verge of falling asleep in Pilates so I think thats about as low key as it gets for me. I did regular yoga once, and Bikram Yoga once. I liked Bikram and its so flippin hot in the studio that it keeps you in the game but I can't afford it on a regular basis. Regular yoga wasn't my cup o' tea, at least I don't think I could stand it regularly. Course its different with different instructors too. I have a yoga series on DVD at my house that I wouldn't mind doing in my spare time but as a consumption of childcare minutes at the gym, I can't bring myself to do it.

With pink dumbbells, or something a little heavier? Specificity, specificity, specificity. :)

ah just more of the same. Phase 1 is for like 6 weeks. I just now realized though that I put the wrong weight on my squats.

3x10 on everything

squats: 135 from 125
bi curls: 15
seated row: 80
pushups
step ups w/ 30 pounds
abs-which feel super strong lately from all the pilates

and with your PM I see how you thought I was making fun of Stingo. BUT I wasn't. I was funnin with you. You are trying all sorts of new stuff and I thought it was funny some of the things. I think they are funny, because I DON'T know what they are. SO I made fun.

Stingo- IU wasn't making fun of you bro.

Sparrow- I am sorry for posting my post. NOT really I am not sorry for the post, I am sorry for the effect it had. That was not my intention at all.
