Newbie..Need help with no sodium diet

Hi all..

Before I start, I am a 24yr old female, 5'7 180 lbs.

Ive been struggling to lose weight for 3 yrs now, after having my kids. No diet has been successful. My cousin Lost 20 pounds last month from a diet i have never heard of, but it worked so i want to give it a try.

She is on a no salt - no sodium diet.. Why does this seem unhealthy to me? Doesnt sodium stabilize the water in your body? To prevent dehydration? I dont know if i am right, just my opinion.

Anyways, just wanted everyones opinion on this. This is my daily menu for the next 30 days.

Morning - Only 1 Banana

Lunch :12:00 - 1 cup boiled rice with 1 banana and a few strawberries, fresh. NO sugar. ( BLAH!)

3:00 - Same as lunch

6:00 - Same as lunch - Different fruits added to rice.

After 6pm - NO FOOD , Not even a fruit. No snacks in between.
Drinking only water..

Month 2 i will be adding veggies to the rice

and the gradually adding soups and other foods with NO SODIUM

I feel like I am starving myself...Hungrier than ever..Is there such thing as a no salt - no sodium diet? Or did she just make this diet up for herself?

I have researched and found nothing.

This was day 1 for me on this diet. and I DONT FEEL TO GOOD AT ALL!

Stomach cramping , gassy, ugh..

Thanks,
Joanne

Hi Joanne, wowsa I no I wouldn’t be able to stick to that one. If you do stick to it be really careful that you don’t get run down and sick especially when you have kiddies to look after. I have just got a piece of exercise equipment today and it came with a 1200 cal 7 day diet I will post it tomorrow so you can have a look at it.

I would really not recommend this diet at all. The daily intake of sodium is supposed to be in the range of 2000mg. And some lady died in the olympics(I think it was olympics) because she had so much water and not enough sodium, at the end of races the race people have to eat like a salt cube because of all the water they drink. If you have no sodium its really not good for you and I would think its even unsafe. Do not do this and I would recommend telling your friend to go off of it. It can really do damage. Just go with a 1200 calorie diet and do cardio and lift weights, the weight will come off. Losing weight is a marathon not a sprint. Make sure you drink lots of water too its good for just about everything having to do with your health.

Thanks a lot!

I am definitly not doing this anymore lol.. However i do want to stick to a low sodium diet, or anything else, not fattening.. I have done atkins before with luck, i lost about 35 lbs, but became very sick. One of my arteries started to clog,=(. Im looking forward to the 7 day diet.

Thanks,
Joanne

Thats one of the many things about the atkins diet, people think they can eat all the fat they want, with most of it usually being saturated fats and thats really bad for ya. Heart attacks will probably come to those who use atkins with lots of saturated fats. Ive never heard of the 7 day diet but good luck to you and try not to lose too much weight in too little time, for one thing its healthier to lose weight slower and youll feel better about the hard work if you have to wait longer.

See this will teach me not to post when im tired and not feeling well. It’s not a 7 day diet it’s just a 7 day meal plan that has around 1200 calories for each day I will post it anyway so you can have a look at it.

Im so sorry I haven’t finished this for you; I have been feeling a bit sick. I will try and get in another couple of days for you tomorrow.

Honestly sometimes I think if I had a brain I would be dangerous lol
If anyone still wants the rest of this pm me your email address and I will send it to you.

If you really want to try a low sodium plan, you should try the Michael Thurmond 6 Week Body Makeover. I've had much success with this plan and you still have sodium in your diet, but you are getting it from the foods you eat and not added salt. It's hard to learn to cook flavorful foods without added salt, but the results are worth it. I've lost 27 pounds and went from a size 12 to a size 6. Here is the link: They have a chat forum with recipes, etc.

Daily recommended "Sodium" intake?

Can anyone tell me whats the max amount of Sodium a person is supposed to consume per day please? Thanks.

My research shows 2400mg per day based on a 2,000 calorie diet and I was told that will be more or less depending on an individual's caloric needs, thanks guys.

not sure how much exactly, but I've noticed that if I drink min water that is higher in sodium (more than 7mg per 100ml), I suffer from bloatings and water retention after.

So if you have any of the somptoms above, just lower the sodium intake as much as possible and you should feel much better. Also very important -at least 2l of water a day!

Sodium-According to weight?

I know that the average or good amount of daily sodium intake is between 2400mg to 2700mg, but is it different for people that are way more active than the average individual? I just wanted to know because I eat a lot of stuff that's high on protein, but also high on sodium. Any advice anyone?
