Cohen's Lifestyle Shine On ReFeed

Prefix for Cohen's Lifestyle
Hello Shine, sorry I haven't here. From all I've read, refeed sounds complicated. You seem to have a good handle on it. Yes, in harmony with what everyones said, you are doing things right. It must be such an adjustment for the body to start assimilating foods it hasn't had for awhile. But keep reminding yourself, those foods are being introduced in the way thats best for you. Well done on sticking with it. x

Day 8

Weight: 62.2

Yes, it was a tuna and salad sandwich! I couldn't eat all the tuna and salad, just what would fit between the bread. It was so good. Fresh Bread, nothing like it.
Breaky was fruit and yoghurt.
Dinner was a chicken stir fry.

Day 9

Weight:62.5

Breakfast: Tomato and Cheese on Toast with mushrooms and spinach on the side.

Lunch: Bok Choy and Chicken stir fry.

Dinner: Probably mince chicken patties and my second piece of bread...somehow...

Not really hungry at all today. Haven't had any fruit yet, better get onto that! Might have to do an OJ again.

Exercise: We went for a lovely big walk (pram) to a new playground, played all over the equipment with Moon Boy, we did an obstacle course twice around. My energy is back with the increased food. There were days when I didn't want to even move while on this diet (running around after a 2 year old was enough!) Now, I have my enthusiasm back, and am considering a second walk today, seeing it is such a beautiful day, but, I will pace myself, as I am keen to do a yoga class tonight at the gym, which might be enough!

Hey Shine

Everything sounds good from your side! Glad you enjoyed your tuna sandwich. Did you cook the bread fresh? What bread are you allowed?

I bet it would be great to have that motivation and energy back... I feel like that a lot of the time too, really looking forward to that extra food so I have more energy to get out and exercise! Did you end up doing your yoga class??? that would have been great!!!

Chat soon, keep up the good work!

Hey Kris,

Did I cook the bread fresh? No, I did a baking course once at the Abbotsford Convent, it was such a lovely day, but I have never baked bread at home. The guidelines for our first taste of bread in ages is pretty specific, but it is basically a no seeds, simple bread, so white or wholemeal. I chose wholemeal Helga's.

YES! I went to the yoga class. It was a lovely way to end the day after Moon Boy "lost it" (the plot) about 5:30 and never "found it" again. I blissed out as my body woke up to yoga again with lovely stretches, twists and some Surya Namaska Sun Salutations, ohh and the very relaxing spoken meditation at the end. I floated out of that class and slept so well. I feel refreshed today and want to be even better to my body....is that possible?

Anyway, Moon Boy slept in until 8:30!! Unheard of! Lately he has been a 6:30am waker. We are going to have a fun day!

I have my new member fitness assessment at the gym and then we are going to get a few Christmas presents crossed off the list. Then some park time after lunch, and maybe some baking ~ more gingerbread.

Day 10

Weight: 62.5kg

New Food:
Oh la la ONE BAD FRUIT (that sort of language makes me laugh). Can mix proteins, 3 slices of bread.

Breaky: Yogurt with 1/2 serve blueberries, 1/2 serve banana.

Hi Shine- Yoga sounds wonderful!!!!!
"Oh la la ONE BAD FRUIT (that sort of language makes me laugh)."
Wicked girl! LOL. xo Cate.

Thanks Cate!

Day 10 Cont...

(by the way, I am now over half way!!)

Lunch
Chicken Burger: Mince Chicken w Diced Onion into 2 patties and pan fried w spray oil. Served between 2 slices of fresh white Helgas bread, with mayo, lettice and tomato.

Shared an apple and an orange w Moon Boy during the afternoon.

I think I was supposed to mix proteins in both meals today... anyway, I did at dinner ~

For entree (remember eating entree?!) I had 1 slice of bread sandwich with tuna, mayo and curry powder. For main I had mince chicken with red cabbage, spinach and mushrooms w balsamic, garlic powder and seasoning.

Dessert will be LYCHEES. YUM.

The assessment was a laugh. They weighed and measured me just like our Cohens weekly check in. I was 1.5kg lighter on the gym scales!
"What do you want to achieve with your gym membership Shine?" the trainer asked... for the first time ever I didn't mention weight loss. How good did that feel! After the assessment I fast walked on the treadmill for 10 minutes of interval training up a steep incline. Felt so good, so very good.

Awesome Shine! Everything is going so great for you :):) your meals are sounding really interesting and yummy! what an exciting time refeed is.... your breakfast sounds sooo good, i dream of berries and bananas hahaha!!!

That would have felt amazing to not have to mention weight loss as one of the factors of joining the gym... are you finding you're enjoying the exercise a lot more now you dont feel so FORCED to do it??? You are really getting into it girl, you should be so proud of yourself!

Keep it up - awesome that you're half way - Christmas Day here you come!! I just worked out that, that will be your first day of maintenance? Awesome!!! :)

Wee Hoo Shine!
How wonderful! xo Cate

Hi Cate, Kris and All,

Thanks for celebrating with me!

Kris, I didn't think of it that way, but yes, you are so right! To exercise without that uphill constant battle, to exercise feeling light in my body, and doing it to strengthen and tone...well, it is quite a lovely feeling, and a little addictive I think, not in an obsessive way, but a constant way.

Yes! I thought that maybe my last day was Christmas Day, but maybe it is Eve... I am trying not to think about it too much now! Just day by day seems to work with ReFeed, so much to think about!

Day 11
Weight: 62.5kg

Breakfast: Yogurt with blueberries and 1/2 banana. Toast with 1/2 mashed banana.

First Reaction ~ Passed a lot of offensive wind yesterday afternoon and evening. Not exactly sure what caused it but I am guessing it might be that 3 pieces of bread is too much. It might be a combination of that and the fact that I finished my anti-biotic prescription and haven't been taking enough Inner Health Plus. Anyway, taking Inner Health Plus today, plus the yogurt, and things are less breezey and sweeter smelling :smilielol5:If after my next two slices of bread thinks get going again, I think I will have discovered something about my insides and start looking for alternatives, like rye, or flat bread for mixing things up a bit.

All advice, opinions and guesses on this reaction are all most very welcome.

Shine- my bet is the bread. I cannot eat it without feeling that way so I don't bother at all. Every now & then I try it again-same reaction, xo Cate

*sigh* I was hoping I wouldn't have that reaction. I will keep playing with it a bit, hoping I have a limit that I can stay under.
Can't be a wheat thing as the crispbreads have been fine. 1 slice seemed to be fine. Might be a yeast thing... will keep exploring.

Day 11 cont.

Made up a tuna salad for lunch to take to my auntie's for a swim.

Dinner: I am mentally struggling with having my proteins together on the same plate. So tonight, it was a chicken rissole in one slice of bread while I cooked up a seasoned steak with steamed cauliflower.

I had a nectarine during the afternoon. Just need one old fruit for dessert. Probably an apple with a crispbread instead of the 3rd piece of bread.

So far, not so windy today after just one slice of bread for breakfast, and now another with dinner. Interesting experimenting.

I know, I know, didn't manage to mix proteins at lunchtime. Will make more effort with that tomorrow.

I must remember to always take my multi vitamins. When I don't, the whole way through Cohens, I get cravings, especially just before meals. I skipped them at breakfast today and was searching for a snack before lunch, good to have left the house at that point! Swallowed the vitamins and had an easy afternoon.

Aw thats a shame you're not reacting well to the bread (if that's what it is) - maybe you could also experiment with different breads that you're allowed?

You're doing so great! Keep it up.
Kristy xo

Day 12

Weight: 62.5kg
(stabilized?! Happy!)

Experimenting with Bread.
2 slices of bread and a serve of crispbreads + Shine = farts. :cuss:

Today I have taken Inner Health Plus.

Breakfast: 1 slice of bread as toast with half a banana mashed on top ~ this is becoming a new fave. Yogurt with the rest of the banana and a little mango. An instant coffee with 50ml FF Milk!! I think I wasted my first milk experience on instant coffee, but I just wanted to see what 50ml of milk did to coffee. It was much more drinkable than black coffee, but I don't think 50ml is enough for a latte, so I will have to dig into my protein allowance in the future to allow for 1 skinny, weak cafe latte a day...once ReFeed is over.

Off to the gym this morning for a Body Balance Class, and possibly another 10 -15 minutes on the treadmill for an interval training session. I am taking it pretty easy, even though I am busting to get into Pump and Spin again, this is only the first few weeks back so want to build up my core muscle strength first and get used to sweating again. I am thinking my first Pump Class will be about mid January, with the plan to Spin by the end of January. Then I will be in full swing again! For now, I will enjoy 3 visits a week, mixing it up between Yoga, Body Balance and some Cardio.

Hi Shine-
Now I'm envious! Oh how I wish for a gym nearby!
Not envious of the farts though! You made me LOL (for real!)
xo Cate

AHHHH jealous! COffeeee!!! Hope you enjoyed it!!!!!! Thanks for the banana on toast idea too - wouldnt have thought of that - definately be doing that on refeed too!

Glad you're stabilized and happy :D

The gym stuff sounds awesome, glad you're enjoying it and you'll be back into spin in no time! Gosh those classes are hard! I used to almost die in them, hoping once I go back nearly 20kgs lighter it will be much easier!

Shine may I ask how you were feeling leading up to your goal weight? Did you get the really bad hunger feelings etc or did you decide to start refeed because you were within goal? I know our bodies are supposed to tell us... eek! I just dont know if I want to get down to 52kgs (lower range).

Take care, have a great 12th day of refeed!!!
Kristy xo

No one need be envious of the farts Hahaha!! OMG they were awful!!
Today, so far, all clear! I am thinking moderation, and some good bacteria may be the answer!

My ReFeed signs were a bit of a mixed bag. I didn't get the "want to eat a horse raw" feeling, but I was constantly looking for something to nibble on, which was really hard to resist. I ended up cutting an apple up into small pieces with a squeeze of lemon juice in the fridge so I could grab something for my growling tum on my way through the kitchen. I was also in the middle of moving house, much higher energy use than I was used to, so I made the decision to have a few extra crisp breads.

Also, I got really crabby, not fun to be around Shine that week-end!!
Who knows if she would bite or kiss you!
Also, really sudden bursts of emotion, like bursting into tears so spontaneously, luckily only Sacha and I were home for those.
I did have the very wide awake at odd hours of the night feeling too.

I wonder if I should have waited until I wanted to eat a horse raw? I wonder if that would mean I could have a lower stable weight, or it was just that my bod told me she was ready in other ways.

I am happy at 62.5kg for my 168cm height, but I really want to get it all looking fitter!

I have a little updating to do!

Day 12 Continued

Lunch was Cheese, Veggies and a slice of bread.
Apple for a snack in the afternoon.
Dinner was complicated!!! Mixing proteins now ~
Prawns with mayo to start.
A teeny tiny portion of lamb, seasoned and pan fried, next to a beef patty eating in bread with grilled tomato... cauliflower and asparagus on the side.

Day 13

Weight 62.8kg (hello 200g extra! Interesting! I do feel completely energized, not over the top, just not low and tired anymore which takes a bit of getting used to, and I think I may have consumed too much for me, while staying on track with the refeed, anyway, I can take more control in Maintenance)

Breakfast: Mango and Yoghurt, Banana on Toast. (feel like that is a lot of banana even though it is a small one, or half a big one, gonna mix it up with having tomato on toast).

Morning Tea : Long Macciato Coffee!! Woot!!

Lunch: Steamed Chicken breast w pan fried veggies

Dinner ~ had in 2 parts.
Part 1 ~ chicken salad minus the 40g protein for having a coffee w new veggie ~ carrots!
<< went to a little christmas singing concert which was fun! >>
Part 2 ~ sushimi an sushi! (to include my new portion of carbs being rice!)
(I did add a drop of soy sauce and scrape of wasabi and am hoping at this stage insy winsy little pleasures like that are okay) I did enjoy it so very very much! Almost felt the raw protein slither straight into my muscles!

Day 14
Breakfast : I HAD BREAKFAST OUT TODAY!
(did a little trial run at home first to visualise how many mushrooms and how much spinach fits with half a tomato) and had 1 poached egg with one piece of toast. Was pretty annoyed that they didn't discount the reduction of 1 piece of toast and 1 egg seeing it was a fairly exxy meal, but at least they didn't charge hubby for the extra bacon from my plate!
Had another coffee, light on the milk.

Lunch: Chicken salad with mango AND CARROT.
Snack afterwards of banana on Toast... yeah, I know, was going to change that, but I really felt like it!

Dinner: Not sure yet, prob mince beef and lamb. Can have my 3rd piece of toast with butter!! Need to factor in some carbs too.

Countdown 3 more sleeps until Wednesday night when we have my family over for Christmas drinks and I can have my first glass of alcohol!!

Isn't it fun! I was really hanging for that glass of alcohol- specifically a glass of a good, red wine. Yum! Happy for you Shine, xo Cate

Day 14
Weight: 63kg (this creeping up is personally expected seeing I am so charged with all that extra energy I am eating. I really want to cut back on my portion sizes once I finish up ReFeed on Christmas Eve, yes, with intention to eat small on Christmas, but NOT WEIGH ANYTHING!!!!

Breakfast: I piece of bread, as toast, with butter.
Yoghurt, Mango and Blackberries. Coffee with Milk.

Sounds like things are going awesome, Shine!!!

Yum, toast with butter! Coffee!!! sounds so good, cannot wait until refeed!

Not long to go now until that glass of alcohol...woohoo!! Well deserved too!

Take care :)
