Senior needs help with my work outs.

I had my first session today with my physio therapist. I met all the physical requirements, but I’ve doing the exercises 4-5 times per day & up walking every hour. Resulting in excess inflammation on my hip, which has been keeping me up at night. I have been given the next set of exercises that includes standing exercises & instructed to do only 3 times per day, ice pack afterwards & to be only on my feet for 5 minutes per hour throughout the day. I shall do as instructed!

Getting the balance between loading and relaxation right is hard and it´s normal to do a little too much sometimes. As long as you adapt once you realize it you´ll be fine.

Had my two week checkup, X-rays and staples removed from the incision today. Results were all good. Next checkup in 4 weeks. Image shows my new hip joint, and original before the surgery. The half spherical insert is 6cm diameter 173E6E2F-9C6D-4F9D-9053-029EF82B26F3.jpeg

do you know what the joint material(s) are?

seeing i was considered young (late 50's), i was told at least some part of mine was ceramic. i thought i heard it was a newer technology (at the time) and was supposed to offer a greater useful lifetime though apparently the surgery is a little more critical.

The metal parts are chromium steel, & the wear cup is cross linked ultra high molecular weight polyethylene. Stainless isn’t used much now due to higher rejection because of nickel content.(per my surgeon)

24 days after surgery.
Still doing 10 physio therapy exercises twice/day. 5 lying on bed & 5 standing. (takes about 1/2 hour)These are becoming relatively easy to do now , so I have added a trip down & back up our 15 steps to the basement. I'll see my physio therapist on Tuesday Aug 4 (Monday is a civic holiday in Ontario.)
I'm getting around pretty well with the cane, but still tire quickly & have to rest often.
Regards
Mike D

Thanks for the update! Good to see you´re doing well. Adding some extra stair time sounds like a good idea. I´m sure your therapist will have some nasty ideas for you on Tuesday :p

Have been feeling a bit depressed & impatient so today I took Bella & my cane & went for a brief walk, to check the mail. At 20 min/km I didn’t break any speed records. The leg is weak but there’s no pain after 850 meters.AE9CC1F3-26DD-47F2-8818-49FCDB6E810D.png

You can see it was pretty strenuous but if it didn't hurt during OR after strenuous is good. Your dedication shows and that counts for a lot.

Hi, Mike. That's really good that you managed to go for a walk with Bella & not feel pain. I find walking really lifts my mood & walking my new dog even more so. How is your weight holding?

Good for you. I had read back over the start of your diary & wondered how you were holding up. You have done well to stay focussed. You'll go from strength to strength I'm sure.

Breakfast: protein bar & coffee
Mid morning: piece of fruit (orange, apple, or pear)
Lunch : sandwich(whole grain bread, lean meat, lettuce tomato mayo)
Dinner: Grilled meat(pork, beef, fish) steamed vegetables, salad.
Evening snack: 1/2 cup ice cream.
Portions to keep under 2000 calories per day.
Occasionally breakfast is larger ie cooked bacon and eggs, so lunch will be a fruit/yogurt smoothie .
With the COVID-19 situation we will occasionally mid day meal as large meal of day at patio, & dinner is just a salad that day.

The weather cleared this morning after the weekend rains. Went for another walk with Bella this morning.
It's now 4 weeks after my hip replacement. Exercises are going well, reps are up from 10 to 15.
Energy level fells better.

Your energy returning can only be a sign you're doing really well. I'm sure Bella is thrilled!
