Weight-Loss
Week 7 Goal

Hey everyone,

just dropping in to check up on everyone. Claudia, I hope your shoulder is feeling better, mami. Take care of that. To bmo and kerich, congrats with finishing up your finals. Now you can happily enjoy your vacation. YAH! haha Ms Fat2fit, tis the season to enjoy one's self, so it's all good. As long as you keep to what you're doing after the parties, you'll be fine. :D Alright... so for this week's bonus, I'm hoping to maintain, but then again.. I wouldn't mind a loss. It's just difficult being around foods/ pastries you can't find in NY, you know? haha Anyways... good job, everyone. You all are doing so well and have so much to be proud of!

I will be happy walking away from December with no major weight gain. I am enjoying my parties(drinking:cheers2:). I figure I am not in a race and I would rather take it slower and this time of year and enjoy it than sit in the corner counting my calories. I lost 60 pounds and damn it...I am going to have fun. I am learning that I don't have to be perfect 100% of the time. As long as I am good most of the time, it won't hurt to indulge every once in a while( like once a month).

Congrats on everyone's week!
Cathy

ETA: Boy, I read my post and it sounds like some excuse I am using to not be so good. So I decided that my goal is more important to me than the food that is sitting at those parties.

Week 7 post

Over the next few weeks I plan on trying to lose weight. I am going to concentrate on getting rid of the unnecessary foods in my diet, and getting a lot more cardio in even though its FREEZING outside. I am also going to start doing my yoga everyday again.

Those are interesting points you make sweetie :). Its hard to be strict every second of one's life, but contrary to the party line about this being a "lifestyle change and not a diet", its a lot harder to lose weight than it is to maintain it. This is especially true once your body has settled on a new, lower set point (this can take several months to lock in that new set point though). That doesn't mean its easy to maintain weight either, and it certainly doesn't mean one can go "back to eating like before" because you'll surely find your weight back to what it was before as well. But on the other hand, in maintaining a reasonable weight you can definitely cheat sometimes, as long as you dont go overboard most of the time. I think the question is really how much in a rush are you to get the weight off. Its OK to decide to maintain for a month and then get back into it. Its not OK to regain weight that's been lost though. If you keep up your working out and you keep the bad/party foods to a minimum, you'll be fine if not just a few weeks delayed in reaching your goal. JUST DONT REGAIN!

My holiday plans are to just keep on doing what I've been doing. Try to work out as much as possible and try not to go overboard at parties or on Christmas day (like I did on Thanksgiving and gained). We're having our Christmas luncheon tomorrow at a nice restaurant and I do plan on enjoying, but I'll counteract that with a small meal for dinner. I dont have too many functions planned this year so I should be OK.

I definitely understand what you are saying. That is why I went back and edited to add that it looks like I was making excuses to eat. In the past that is exactly what made me gain the weight back. So I decided then and there that Christmas is not about the food and drinks, it is about family. I want to walk away feeling proud of myself and not hating that I let myself think "It's the holidays so I DESERVE to have fun". After reading my own post I quickly realized this. Thanks for the input. I don't drink at all except when I go to the 2 holiday parties every year. And even then it is not much.

Hey Cathy :). I dunno, people dont get to be overweight from 2 holiday parties, a few slices of birthday cake every year and a thanksgiving meal. I feel its more the day in and day out bad habits, doing things like overeating without also counteracting that high calorie day with a low calorie day. That's how I always maintained my weight, as much as a struggle as it was, I would always binge out on the weekends but then I would eat pretty well monday through thursday to counteract any weekend gain. I'm still doing that even though I go more days eating even less and much less binging (and I still dont lose anything!). I would always try to go for walks or to the gym on the weekend if I wasn't too deep into one of my lazy modes. Point being you can always enjoy if you want, as long as you know you have to make up for it later too (like just eating 3 meals and cutting out all snacks for the next few days). Do you have a diary on the forum? I'd like to keep in touch after the challenge :).

Well I haven't exercised all week! I am so busy I'm afraid I may not make my 3 hours of exercise. Sorry if I dont peeps :cuss:.

I read in another post where someone said it doesn't matter what you eat between Christmas and New Years. It's what you eat between New Years and Christmas. So true. :)

Week 7 bonus...

I know it is ambitious but I would like to continue losing. My family doesn't really have special food at christmastime. Our big family party will have the usual snack food/pizza type deal. The other parties will have some good food but I'm vegetarian so what I can eat is already pretty limited, as the houses we go to are big meat eaters. I think because we never did the big christmas meals etc I dont really associate certain special foods with this time of year, so there isn't really anything that will be extremely hard to give up. So for the next few days, I'd like to see at least a .5 lb loss and my goal is to break 130 by the time I go back to school Jan 13. I just bought a gym membership near my house so I'll have that the next few weeks and as long as I keep the snacking at bay and get at least 4 good workouts a week I think I should be able to lose those last few pounds.

Good for you kerich! And I like your avi too :). Ahhh, those were the good ole days when my metabolism worked like yours, where I could actually count on losing if I ate a certain way and exercised. After I had my daughter, already at age 38 (now 39 eeek), everything changed. Or maybe it was after I lost the 30 lbs. I dont know what caused this, but it doesnt seem to matter weight-wise for me whether I eat decently (2000 calories/normal maintenance) or eat a weekly average of 1700 calories and work out everyday. Before my plateau I was losing an average of .8 lbs a week while eating an average of 1850 calories a day and working out around 3 times per week. Now I'll do more and eat even less and still not lose. I know BB thinks I need to do even way more but after a few weeks at 1700 calories a day I just get hungry! Grrrrrrrrrrr.

Well I managed to go down 1.5 lbs since last week. This is still within my set point range though, so no real loss for me hence no big deal, but still helpful for the challenge. Funny thing is, I did nothing special except I ate homemade guacemole with tortilla chips the past three nights for dinner and I ate light lunches for the past few days (but nice big breakfasts).

While I didn't exercise all week, I did get in 1 hr 45 min of exercise on Friday to try to get my points. I'll hope to do my last 1 hr 15 min but right now I'm exhausted and have a headache from being up last night with insomnia and early this morning with the baby. I need to suck it up and get in my points! Let's see how I do.

Guacemole Recipe:
2 avocados, mashed
1 small onion, chopped
1/2 cup cilanotro, chopped
1 lime, squeezed
1 small tomato, chopped
salt

mash avocado, squeeze in lime, add in cilantro, some salt and onion; stir well; then fold in tomato and eat

Well I gained some this week. But I will look at the big picture and I am down a little over 10 pounds since the challenge started....so there is a smile on my face!

Congratulations team on all your hard work!

Cathy

Sorry everyone that I haven't been all too supportive here at the team thread. It's been difficult with being in Hawaii and having a limited amount of time online. However, I just want to wish all of you a wonderful holiday season and good luck with your weight loss! You all did awesome on this challenge... regardless of what some dipshit said at the chat thread. hahaaa!
