Raising The Bar

Yeah, I'll hit 600 too ;)

Not sure on a new target, I guess it has to be the 425 by March for the DL comp but to be honest my heart's not really in that, I might set an overhead lifting or squating target next

Wow, that was an odd session.
As I'm still feeling weak from the fever, have a minor cold, and a chest infection that's left me with the lung capacity of Joe Camel, I thought I'd ease myself back into training by doing my ME push day but instead of performing the lifts in sets I'd do them one after the other with a minute or so between sets. Dispite this illness and the weight loss I managed to post 2 PB's today

DB Chest Press
3x176
4x3 @ 185 - PB
3x176

BB Overhead Press
3x110
2x132
4x3 @ 121

Squats
3x264
3x286
3x3@ 319 - PB
20x220 (did these without rest after previous set)

I weighed myself and I only lost 2lbs in weight during the fever which is far better than I expected, I have protein shakes to thank for that as I hardly ate any solid food for 4 days

I'm back to my pre-fever weight of 231lbs proving once and for all there is such a thing as "fat memory" ;)

I got cramp in my leg during the night and my leg still hurts so I didn't risk the deads today.

Seated Row
6x3 @ 257lbs

Pull ups
6x3 @ BW -11lbs

Reverse Lunges
2x10 each leg

Bicep Curls
15x110
10x110

I've decided to pop into work so I can hit the gym today; the idea of 2 weeks with no training and lots of eating made me panic a bit so here I am :biggrinsanta:

I'm going to do a FBW in a minute with a mix of the push/pull split I usually do and increase the gym time to about 60 minutes

If I don't speak to any of you before the new year, have a happy Christmas

I'm back!!

I got some resistance bands for Christmas and a book on the Endocrine system. The book is pretty cool but I'm probably going to need to post some questions to get people on here to explain a few things to me in dummy language :)

I have a feeling I've put on a few pounds of fat over Christmas so I'll have to weigh myself later

You to fool.

Totally lost me there!

A pretty good session today, although my gym's taped off the scales so I can't see my weight anymore

DB Press

3x3@ 185lbs
3x3@ 176lbs

Overhead BB Press
3x132
2x132
4x3 @ 121

Squats
3x286
3x297
3x3@ 330 (last rep was quarter squat to be fair)
5x286

Calf raises
14x286 (I had to do double leg raises due to time running out)

At the moment I've only found them useful for side raises and for adding resistance to press ups. Maybe I just have girly bands but they really don't seem to offer enough resistance to do any proper resistance training with them.
That's not so much of a problem though as I only got them for support work anyway

Well they are not going to compare to 400lbs. Though if you use with them with some high reps they will work great.

Take a look at my journal and my last 2 workouts. I have been using bands only.

I didn't post my training yesterday because I sucked badly. I forgot that I was going to break up my ME days so I never did them back-to-back and I think that's why I suffered.

I managed 6 reps at 330 on the DL but had to drop down to 308 for all the rest; my grip being the weakest link. I really badly ripped a callus on my right hand which took off a lot of skin and made every grip of the bar painful after that

I also struggled on the pull ups, I think I might have gained a few pounds which is causing this but I can't get to a scale to see where I'm at

Oh well, at least I have some new gym gear so I look cool while I lift my pussy weights

I was really sore all over today, must be because I was a lazy bugger over Christmas. Still got in a HR Push day though

OH Press
3x10 @ 99lbs

Bench
10 @ 154
10 @ 176
10 @ 154

Squat
10 x 242
10 x 264
*Split squats 10x 154 each leg to kill quads*
10 x 242

Tricep Pushdown
15x154
12x154 - to failure

Tony - I have an idea that the reason I've been struggling to make improvements on my deads recently is down to neglecting the split squats. They either get cut down due to time or done light outside the rack due to other people using equipment.
Do you think it likely that unilateral squat variations help deadlifting more than regular squats?
I just have an instinctive feeling that that might be the case with me at least

That was a great session! I really wish that I had more time because I bet I could have made PR's in every lift if I'd tried. I've made an effort to increase my eating during the weekends for the last month and I think it's starting to pay off

Squats
3 x 297lbs
4x3 @ 319 (all perfect :))
8 x 297 (could have done more to be honest, should have pushed harder)

OH BB press
2x3@ 143
4x3@ 132

Chest Press (had to use machine)
3x 216lbs
4x3 @ 231
5x216

Seated Calf raises
2x10 @ 154lbs

I was a complete dumbass today, I was halfway through my HR push schedule when I remembered I was meant to be doing HR pulls! :11doh:

I weighed myself and I'm 231lbs which is kinda annoying because for some reason I can't seem to put on weight at the moment

Bench
2x12@ 176
8x 176 (f)

Squats
12x 264

*Realised I was doing wrong routine*

Rows
2x12 @ 185
10 x 185

Deads
12 x 220
8 x 264
12 x 220

Lat Pull Down
3x12 @ 123 (only sucks so much because forearms were f**ked by this point)

Face Pulls
2x12 @ 154

I felt my hamstring pull a bit during the face pulls, not good news, this could start to annoy me soon

We all have our "Brain Fart" days, CCR. Hang in their buddy! I hope the pull on the hamstring isnt anything major. Maybe being annoyed is a good thing for you, buster! :)

I wish you the best in life and within fitness CCR,

Hey man, where have you been? It's been a while since you last posted in here.

The hamstring thing is annoying because I did it lifting my 400lb deadlift target for last year at the start of december but it won't seem to heal properly and it's stopping me from advancing to the 425 I need for the deadlift challenge :(

My OH lifting and squatting are coming along well though so I'm not too worried

Hey, I know more than you think, he, he. I know that you had some problems at work (since rectified), I know that you were gone about a week or so around or just after the holidays. I read my friends journal quite often---GOT MY EYE ON YOU! :)

You are in good hands with Tony, though. He will get you flying right. Im sure your discussing the situation with Tony (right?). You will be blasting the deadlift challenge in no time, brotha!

Best regards,

Chillen
