proxy's diary

Alrighty, I have finally decided I need to record down what I eat and excercise... Earlier before college I was afraid of the freshman fifteen, and Im afraid to say I did a gain a few pounds. So now Im determined in this new year resolution to lose some weight.

Current weight 192 pounds, height 5'7'', age = 18 years old, and Im a male  .

Target weight 160 pounds. Tools - diet, excercise, and a boatload of determination.

I started today with the following

1 cup skim milk
1 banana
1 apple
1 salad with vinegar (or at least tasted like vinegar) dressing and baby tomatoes
1 red big scoop of rice with beans and shrimp/peas
and
1 glazed donut (i couldnt resist)

I wonder how I should make it so that I consistent with my diet plans, and wont start ravishingly craving for unhealthy stuff like pizza and chili-hot dogs? Is it good to indulge once in a while?

As you eat healthier and your body and mind adjust to the new way of living craving subside and are no longer an issue. But sure, every now and then, indulge. But plan for it, extra exercise, lowering your calorie intake for the rest of the day so your treat doesn't put you too much over. Have 1/2 a chili dog and put the rest in the fridge and aim to keep treats to about once a week. Its hard at first and expect to slip up, but don't give up for the rest of the day or week. Just pick yourself up and continue. If you've been thinking about a particular food item for days now and just can't forget it, go get one. Just remember, if you treat yourself too often, your cravings will just keep popping up as habit will tell you thats what you want. Good luck, I'm sure you will be able to achieve your goals here.

Thanks jenny. Later this afternoon I went to my college's gym and worked out on the cycling aerobic machine. I did that for thirty minutes and worked a good sweat, though tired as I was I did not constantly maintain my target heart rate of 160, it was usually floating just below it. Afterwards I worked out on the free weights with bicep curl-ups (15 pound each hand). Then I went to do some benching - since I just started benching I was doing just the bar itself, but today I added five pound to each side. Im still trying to find out how to get a flat tummy, I worked on those ab curl-up machines but Im wondering if that will really work.

Then here was where my problem began. I was feeling mighty hungry at dinner-time so I went to my west-side campus cafeteria and had two scoops of cheesed cauliflower, three incomplete slices of supreme pizza, one scope of white pasta and two pieces of small garlic chicken along with a glass of lemon-lime powerade. I felt quite full afterwards but I think I probably shouldnt have had the pizza. This dinner must have been a calorie explosion. :(

What should I do? I was feeling so hungry when I had dinner, that I think I went overboard... Im guessing because I did not have a snack after lunch and before dinner. I remember craving for protein and meat during dinner, because I didnt really have any during lunch.

This really stinks, if I cant control myself with this hunger then the new fresh healthy diet is ruined!

Has any of you have this happen to you before? If so - how did you deal with it?

Listen to your body,..if it is asking for protein,..give it protein. Just because you think you over ate you now dont feel good about your eating today ...instead think to yourself, that you have learned is a snack is invaluable, even if you are not really too hungry at the time,..it will keep you going till dinner..and perhaps you should make that snack some protein...keep that blood sugar constant,...by eating the small snack will help control hunger. Weight management is a life long goal,..so you have lots of time to be successful

Today went a bit better.

Lunch
1 cup skim milk
salad with Caeser dressing and slices of tomatoes
one piece of herbal chicken
one big spoon of oatmeal
one big spoon of grits
two bananas

Dinner
Two scoops of chicken pot pie
self-made wheat sandwich with tomato, ham, and chicken with ketchup
one banana
green-colored rice - dont know what it is

And I did not excercise today but I walked a mile buying my books for school and stuff.

I went to basketball game and afterwards went to a diner with some friends later in the night. I ordered a turkey sandwich with a dash of mayanoise and fries. I had water for a drink. I sure feel full now :) .

For breakfast/lunch, I had salad with tomatoes and a whole-grain sandwhich with ham and chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, and barbeque sauce.

For dinner, I had a hand-made buritto with cheese, white cream, lettuce, etc (everything except the jalopanois. I had a salad with Caesar dressing, bacon bits, and crunchy bread-crumbs. I also had mashed potato with mixed beef.

One big question, considering my cafeteria does not have a dressing labeled as vinegar, is Caesar Dressing the best way to go?

Jennifer thanks for your support - after thinking about my eating habits for the past few days and what you said, I realized this was just a steady process of eating healthy for the rest of my life, not a one-time thing! :)

Onto today!

Breakfast
Whole-grain cereal with skim milk
grits
glass of skim milk

Lunch
salad with caesar dressing
pasta with tomatos, sauce, and spices
rice with surloined pork

snack
pandinis salad rolled-pizza

I excercised today 30 minutes at a target heart rate of 160 on the aero-bicycle aerobic machine. And then I proceeded to do toning, muscle building, with the various body machines. I found from a friend that it's best to workout upper body one day and lower body the next, giving each part of the body at least a 48-hour rest. I started working out at 6:00 pm and ended at 8:30 pm  .

One bummer I found was when I used the body-fat analyzer machine, I had a total fat weight of 40 pounds (40 POUNDS OF FAT!!!!!) This is seriously bad, considering I weigh 192 pounds total.

Today I woke up at 8 am and had breakfast at 10 am.

I had a Chicken Teriyaki Rice Bowl about 500 oz. I also had a chicken biscuit from Chick-F-Lei.

Lunch
Pasta with Meatballs
1 scoop of green stringbeans
Salad with Italian Dressing with tomatoes
1 glass of skim milk

Naughty! late breakfast! Breakfast should be consumed within 45 minutes of wake up to effectively boost your metabolism. Other than that you seem to be doing great. Keep it up

Onward to today's Dinner
I indulged a bit and went to my college newspaper meeting where we had all you can eat Papa John's Pizza. I eat about 5 pieces  , it nice. I also drank a cup of Sprite. Guess I have to work-out extra hard next time!

Breakfast
Fruity Loops with Chocolate Milk (ran out of all other types of milk)
slice of watermelon
spoon of applesauce

Lunch
Chicken Teriyaki Rice Bowl (500 oz)
Glass of Water
Chick-F-Lei Chicken Biscuit

Dinner

It's like Im getting a lot of free food this week. We had a pizza party in our dorm hallway. I had five slices of once again Papa John's pizza and Sprite and some chips.... (I know I know) It's actually quite rare for me to get free food in college (especially when you're a jobless poor college student:( ), so I thought of indulging in these times.... What do you guys think?

Afterthought - boy these past two days have been bad with food... A little too much pizza = not good = too many calories = need to excercise like crazy..... Even with rare occassion such as free food, I think I need to control myself...

Today I am definitely working out!

Breakfast
Whole Grain Cereal with Skim Milk
Slice of Watermelon
Grapefruit
Pineapple

Lunch
Chicken Teriyaki Rice Bowl (500 oz)

Dont worry proxy sometimes when we slip up it movitvates us to do better,..which I think is the case for you....keep going at it
