Post your best mile times...

I just wanted to clear up how far a mile actually is.

1 mile = 1.6km
the army qualifying run is 2.5 km under 10minutes for men and just under 11 for fmls...not flyying but reasonably comfortable.

Out of curiosity, for those that do run can I ask how many people run alone??

i like to run alone... sometimes when i do run with partners it kinda distracts you, cause your doing alot of talking... i dotn know or is it just me? i like running without music now ever since i lost my ipod... seems like i can just focus on my breathing... i also wear a mouth guard since i have to get used it for fights. :*(

I run by myself and without any music. Where I live, I am on main roads and have to be very careful with traffic. It's 35 MPH but nobody does it and the road is very narrow. Also, I love the outdoors and the smell of fresh air. I find that when someone goes with me, I feel like they are intruding on my peace of mind. Plus everyone runs at a different pace.

It depends what kind of run I'm doing, if im doing a short intense session or interval trainining/speed training/hillwork, i like to do it by myself, if i'm going for a long run/recovery run, i prefer to go with somebody else for company! :D

Compared to all of you, I sound pathetic when I say 12 minute miles but for me I really am proud. (I have only timed myself to see how long it takes me to exercise so I would have enough time in the morning before work, but today I timed it to see how long it took me for a mile. (My 12 minute miles doesn't include my walking to warm up or cool down.) Today was the first time I was able to run the full 2 miles. Usually when I finish my first mile, I come to a hill and walk it but today I ran the hill. I now understand about the zone. When I got there I felt I could keep going. I wasn't gasping for air or anything. I felt great. I am bragging here but too bad - I am soooooo proud.

You don't sound pathetic, everybody has to start somewhere so don't worry! Also don't worry about bragging, i think its fantastic to hear about other people's success and improvements, it can even motivate others to copy and try to emulate your success :)

heh yea, i used to couldn't even run a mile without stopping in junior high, i was never fat just not in shape. then i joined the tennis team in high school and was crazily over worked(in my opinion of course) by running miles all the time for what will be 3 years now, with a couple of two mile runs in there. i had to make 7:30 to be on the team, i remember i was in the 8s and was not happy about it, i was struggling just like the big guys and that's rediculous, but i brought it down and can obviously easily make the team, thanks to my excellent coach for pushing me, wouldn't be where i am today without him. well thats my life story anyway, i know yall wanted it. : )
