it was 89 degrees, feels like 101 at the finish. The lake water was 79 degrees.
SO- what i learned- LOTS!!!!! this was totally intense. The chain of events--omg. This was one of those times that my retardation got me thru a ruff spto that my stupidity got me into-- It is fun being me, but one hell fo a ride sometimes.
I LEARNED!!!
1. Protect your body the day before your event. See my toe from chasing my son around at the lake. Mind you this was done less that 12 hours prior to my start time.
2. Do not cop an attitude and blow your diet on the last night. I ate a ribeye steak, lower(restaurant) quality, and I had desert. AND - I blew chunks when I was just over half way in the swim. I had also drank a protein shake, ate a chunk of salmon, and peanut butter on pita bread at 5:am for pre-race Breakfast.
THE LESSON- race on an empty stomach.
3. Learn about race conditions. When we ran into the water it was so warm it almost felt hot. And you coul not see, it was dark brown lake water.
THE LESSON- Swim in condition you will race in. The swim nearly killed me, I had to float in the water nearly 15 minutes to recover from throwing up. The the mental torture from other swimmers was not good.
3. LEARN ABOUT RACE CONDITIONS. Hills galore, mega hills and many hills. I fell over on my bike twice because I was refusing to get off and walk, like the rest. i threw up on the bike too. i ate 3 GUS in an attempt to overcome throwing up in the water, but they made me throw up all my accelerade again.
THE LESSON- Ride in conditions you will race in.
3a. Do not let everybody go out first tryin to be humble. Many of them can't swim and they kick the crapola out of you as you are passing- chumps knocked my goggles off twice!
4. LEARN ABOUT RACE CONDITIONS!!! The run was hills and I had not been running hills either.
5. Read the rules as soon as you register, so you can train appropriately. NO MP3 player turned out to be a major setback for me. I had not trained in silence. The breathing, shoes on the ground, and other people breathing was very fatiguing. I ended up singing "Ol McDonald had a farm" and used all the letters of the alphabet to pick animals, birds, and insects for topics.
After the swim and ride reduced me to a small child- "ol McDonald" is the best I could do. hahahahaha
and last but not least!
6. If you do not do 1 - 5 you better have enough mental bend, true grit, pride, whatever it is- to enjoy 3 hours and 43 minutes of torture!
IT WAS SOO DANG COOL!!!
Going to go for a half iron in Oct, or at least another Olympic, on my way to Ironman in 08!
GET SOME!!!
FF
p.s. I promise to give US a better time next time. HILLS in FL- who would'a thunk it!
