& that's what you have decided. Keep up the good work Dan. You are doing well. This is a long-term thing & we have to work things out as we go, always being able to change our minds along the way :D
Thanks Cate! It's a work in progress...personally zero sugar is working well for me...keeps me eating healthily...although...I make the rules so...I ate half a chocolate chip cookie last night....it was from Smoothie King...it tasted a lot like cardboard but it was a good change from the regular....and tonight...geeze...I pigged out on fried eggs and sausage and toast and jelly and honey...phew...still under The Food Police Recommendation....so...I'm really having a good time with all this still...and...I know in the end I will be successful...and I know that when I have reached my goal...I am NOT going to celebrate by having a big old piece of Apple Pie. (maybe a small sliver...if it fits into the 'plan'...:ack2:

We are all works in progress. Choc chip cookies that taste like cardboard? :ack2:
I still get a shock when I see savoury food combined with sweet, but I just got a bigger shock when I read "and jelly and honey". Really? Wow. That would ruin eggs for me. .
I just accidentally called Brent, Dan. I was about to post in your diary. Whoops!
I love that you are enjoying your new lifestyle changes.

This is music to my ears :D

The jelly and honey were for the toast. I am more than happy to make your ears sing!

How's it going?
It's going well Cory...thanks! When I started I weighed 221 lbs. This morning I weighed in at 211 lbs. I have been weighing myself daily but haven't been posting the results. I have been pretty consistent in the 210-213 range...so...I'm really optimistic.

I have been consuming more alcohol than I should. So, I have decided to just completely stop smoking cigars. Consequently, I will not be consuming anymore alcohol. They just kind of go together that way. I just have to kill them both.

I am doing well with my eating...documenting everything. I believe that with the deletion of certain 'habits' from my life...my exercise will also increase dramatically. That's the goal.
My New Year Resolution was to get into my 32s...and organize my life. So far I have organized my office, my closet, and the garage. I feel like I'm on the right track to somewhere. :)

Curious to see how the no alcohol/cigars will affect your weightloss and well-being. (Short-term I think we all know what it´ll do to your well-being :) )

Fantastic job! I also fully support you giving up the cigars, purely for the cigars themselves and with no other relationship to alcohol consumption.

Hale: Thanks...I appreciate your support. It is really nice to be supported by positive people....especially those on a similar path!

Lama: Alcohol...I can take it or leave it...never been a problem with that...cigars...totally addicted...but I think it is a nasty expensive habit...plus...I do have that 'thing' rattling around in my head all the time. "Dan, whatever you do, don't have a stroke." Words of wisdom from someone who knew. So, I will just make that my Mantra...it's hard to rationalize away the truth of that statement. So, in the short term....I'll just hang on that! Thanks!

Cate: Thanks! I think it will be interesting as well. I now have a scale...and I'm using it! And I have found that I was really not even close to some measures...especially like, a portion of meat...estimates can be the difference of several hundred calories. So, I am measuring everything....e v e r y t h i n g .

Cory: Thank you! I have smoked cigars for about 20 years...occasionally. But, about 3 or 4 years ago...it just became a routine thing....and honestly...I really enjoy it! But, the truth is...whatever you are smoking...cigarettes, cigars, pot....inhaling really hot smoke deep into your lungs is not very smart. Actually, it's pretty damn stupid. I smoked cigarettes for several years but in my early 30s, one day I just stopped...and the reason was so that I wouldn't be having significant health problems when I got older...Now that I am older...it really doesn't make any sense to do that to myself...regardless of the pleasure involved. I also get pleasure from working out...so I am just going to replace time spent on debauchery with time spent building my body back into shape. :)

Sweet results on the 10 lbs loss! Love the comment re replacing debauchery with building body back in shape. Pretty sure our bodies will rejoice with that choice!!!

Thanks Brent! I can tell this is going to be a hard goal! I already fell off that wagon just last nite. I BBQ,d pork chops on the grill. 6 huge center cut, thick. Slow cooked 'em for about an hour. I had not really thought about the connection between grillin' and smokin' and drinkin'. So...I smoked a cigar and 3 Shiner Bock Beers. All together I was still only at 1373 calories for the day. But now I have a large supply of 4 0z chops to eat at lunch.
Back to the wagon....

You get no judgment from me, brother. I like nothing better than smoking a brisket, pork shoulder and/or ribs and firing back a few "pops" or glasses of wine. Those chops sound fricking delish!!!

I must confess, I'm super excited to move into my new house because I will have room for an actual smoker. And now I can smoke my own meat all the time. Loooooove me some real southern style BBQ.

My smoker is an "old" Weber 'Bullet'. My friend has a smoker that is far more efficient and less time consuming. I'd spend the extra $ and buy one of those. All about the rub in my humble view.

Congrats on the pending move. Very exciting!!!

I'm happy for your new house too! BBQ rocks!

I posted this Monday in a different thread. I am re-posting it here....

Okay....
well...
I am kind of up against a wall here...I haven't gained any weight..but, I haven't really lost any either...
The reason is alcohol consumption. but...I have also determined that while alcohol is the reason for no weight loss...it is not the problem! The problem is that I am addicted to cigars. And...the reason I am so addicted to cigars is because I inhale...which is not a good thing to do! As you know...I had decided to quit and start exercising instead. I thought it would just be a matter of my saying...no...to cigars; it isn't that simple.

I remember how Cory would post ....x number of days without soda pop. I think I need to do the same with cigars.
If I smoke, I drink. They are inseparable! If I drink, I don't lose weight. Besides the obvious health risks and consequences for both, I seriously want to lose weight. So I MUST quit smoking cigars...if I find myself wanting to drink...I'll tell you, but I'm pretty sure if I kill cigars the other will also fall by the wayside. I'm not really a 'taper down' kind of guy. So...it is going to be a Cold Turkey experience for me.

The reason I haven't posted on here in some time is because I said I was going to quit and then didn't and I felt ashamed to tell you all. I realize though that you guys are my support group. So...just coming clean...making a new start. It's Monday, and I'm looking forward not backwards. I look forward to posting tomorrow that I am 'cigar free' for one day!

That was Monday and today is Thursday and I am still Cigar and Alcohol Free! Four days...woohoo!

Nice to hear from you again, Dan, and to see you're not giving up. Tobacco's a drug and withdrawal is hard work but you CAN do it.
