" Obesity largely determined by genetics, says study "

supposidly there are two body types efficient/inefficient,surprisingly to most, the efficient are people who are overweight because they hold onto energy sources better,so if they were put back into a hunter gatherer society they would survive better, the problem is nowadays food is so readily available (and crap food) that there effeciency becomes a burden so to speak.

I think obesity may be genetic. Like some people are tall and others are short, why can't how you store fat also be a genetic trait?

I mean I think genetically speaking, you will favor certain type of food better than other. If you favor candy and things of that nature, then it is more likely that you will become obese simply because of the high calories.

I mean look at families with large amount of brothers and sisters. You will see that in some cases, there is always one who is larger than the rest. Why is this so? Everyone probably eats the same food and probably gets the same amount of exercise.

Even more so, if you look at natives in those discovery channel, you will see that some are larger than others. Why is this? They eat the same food and they have to actually hunt for their food.

I think genetics will determine your overall body shape and whether or not your body favors to store fat more than usual. I think you can control things like eating excessive chocolate if you're genetically programmed to like those type of food. But I think any internal actions, such as fat storage and height and so fort cannot be altered.
I kindly disagree. If you take a person from a skinny family and take them to McDonalds and forcefeed them 7000-10000 cals a day, he will no longer be skinny in a matter of time. With processed food/pop containing HFCS, saturated and trans fats the ball is rolling towards being obese. Haven't you seen skinny people with large bellies due to eating junk food? They don't call it junk food for nuthin ya know....

genetics can not determine obesity, overeating determines that as said above.

but genes can determine various hormone levels and this in turn determines food partitioning,Partitioning refers to what happens when excess calories are consumed. Are they directed into muscle or fat stores? The worse your partitioning, the more fat you gain when you gain weight. The better your partitioning, the more muscle you gain.
but training and diet have a big say in partitioning also,so even if your genes are not favorable as far as partitioning is concerned you can change that with the right training and diet.

When I started my goal quest, and had listened to my family and friends concering their viewpoints on losing fat tissue I wouldnt of lost a one pound nor gained any muscle in the process.

They were claiming I was overweight at the time due to: "Middle Age Spread". Instead, I flat opened my mouth too many times when my body didnt need it, and my metabolism naturally slowed as I got older (to put this in simple terms).

Was I genetically predetermined to have so many fat cells? Was I prone to an aging metabolism? Was I born to have a certain body type? Was I born with flaws and capabilities that are less then other people?

I. Don't. Care.

I can alter my disposition with a "hungry heart of determination" by applying enough of me to get it done, and this has many faces of implementation.

And, I proved them wrong.

Best wishes,

Chillen

as said above it doesnt matter about genetics as long as you train and are smart about what youeat it isnt really important, there is a fat gene its called FTO some people have two (TT) some have one (TA) some have none (AA).

Genetics play a role, but the environment does too. If I am genetically predisposed to getting fat (low metabolism, I'm more hungry than other people, etc) that doesn't mean I can blame my genes, because if I eat right and exercise I won't get fat. I will however, get fat if I don't restrict myself and just go with the flow, while someone without these genetic traits might not get fat by doing that.

Actually some people will always be fat no matter what, to claim that if you eat right you can always stay lean is false.

that would be a pretty serious disease, happenes very rearly.. I didn't think that really counted into this discussion.

Again, first time looking at this thread and my guess was correct.

Full of opinions and friendly arguments where at the end of it all.......Youve not got anywhere, changed anyones mind, waste of time :D

Thats if you ask me :D:D:D:D:D:D

So if we put them on an Island with no food they'd still be fat?

or does that only apply to if they "eat right"?

That disease must suck.

Yeah, I think that genetics definitely play a large role in how naturally fat or skinny you are.

Like I have a friend with 2 fat parents, he's fat, and another friend with two skinny parents, he's skinny.

But a lot of environmental factors came into play here too. The fat household had lots of unhealthy snacks, and ate lots of unhealthy food. The skinny household always ate very healthy foods....

sooooo yeah, who knows.

how do you know its not changed anyones mind:( are you a mind reader.
the point of forums is to give your opinion, then everone can choose to take it or not;):D

there are people who have problems hormonly or mentaly that cause them to overeate, but they are still overeating.you cant get fat on a defecit its impossible.

Its unlikely to change anybodies mind, never seems to do. So in my view...............................

Its pointless ;)

so your interfering was pointless.

Maybe so, but your arguments are even more pointless.
