Hi Everyone! Well, the Holiday Challenge is nearly over, and I'm sure after the Holidays are over we'll all be in need of some motivation to knock off the pounds. This upcoming challenge is going to be VERY competitive and not for the faint of heart. Here are the rules:

NEW YEAR’S/Biggest Loser Style CHALLENGE

HOW IT WORKS:
1. There will be 3 teams of 12. The first 36 people with at least 20 posts to sign up will be placed on a team randomly.
2. Each week the two teams with the lowest amount of pts will lose the 3 people with the lowest amount of pts
3. Team pts will be weighted so as not to give teams with more members an advantage
4. At the end of week 4 there will be 12 people left. At that point the team phase will end and it will be individual until the end.
5. During the individual phase the 3 people with the lowest pts will be eliminated. During week 7 there will be 6 people left. At the end of that week, the person with the most pts will be the winner.
6. When a person is eliminated the team loses that person’s total pts. Only the points of the people who are still in it will carry over.
7. Sign ups will start Jan 1st. The challenge will start on Friday, January 4th and end on Thursday, February 21st.
8. In the case of a tie, the person with fewer points that week will be eliminated. If there is a tie in the first week, the person with the lesser amount of weight loss (or the most gained) will be the one eliminated.

HOW YOU GET POINTS
1. You’ll get 1pt for every pound you lose and -1pt for every pound you gain. If you lose .5lbs you’ll get a half point. If you gain .5lbs you’ll lose a half pt. If you gain .8lbs you’ll lose .8pts and you’ll get .2pts if you lose .2lbs. If your weight is the same from the previous week you’ll get 0pts
2. You’ll get 3pts for every 30min that you exercise each week for a max of 21pts per week.
3. Each week there will be 1 additional bonus that will be announced the Wednesday prior. The pts for these bonuses will vary from week to week.

This is just an info thread. I'll post the sign up thread on Jan 1st.

Let me know what you think of this. :)

I plan on signing up. I think that it sounds fun.

The 3 teams will be the Red Team, the Blue Team and the Black Team ala Biggest Loser. However, Bob, Kim and Jillian will not be there to bust your butts. Well, maybe in spirit. :D

Newbride already started a new years challenge thread -why don'y you both get togehter -

too m any challenges is not a good thing

Also;

2. You’ll get 3pts for every 30min that you exercise each week for a max of 21pts per week.

I have a slight problem with this rule, because I usually do around an hour of workouts or so.

Mal-
I disagree, as this may end up being a much more competitive challenge. This way, more people would be able to find a challenge they like. People who respond to harsher, more stringent guidelines may thrive here, where people who like a more encouraging, "in this together" atmosphere may respond to the other. As long as challenges are not exactly alike, I think it is fine if there are several.

Casanova-
Is that an hour total all week? Or each day? If all week, then this challenge may motivate you to get on an exercise routine. If each day, then you will already know you can earn all the points. Either way, I do not understand what there is to disagree with. You know the rule established in the challenge, you can choose to join or not.

do whatever you want but the more challenges there are -especially the more that are starting at the same time - the more confused people get and less apt they will finish any challenge...

Well, in this one 6 of them are going to be eliminated at the end of the first week, and 6 more the week after that, etc. So I agree with Amber in that this one's going to be very different from the others--and only 6 of them will "finish" this one anyway.

Yea, i'm not too sure how I feel about all the challenges either. There will be my newyears challlenge, your biggest looser/new years challenge and then the regular 10pd/mth january challenge...thats alot.

maybe I'll pull mine and whoever wants the "in this together" type of challenge can sign up for the 10pd/mth one instead??? not sure yet.

I usually only sign up for thing at a time.
So this would be great for me.
Especially as I don't want to be eliminated so it would really motivate me to stay at the top of my game. That and I love the way BB sets up the challenges.
Just like anything in life people have to prioritize. Just how many challenges does one person need to be invloved in anyway? LOL

I don't think you should pull your challenge. There will be a lot of people who won't want to join this one for the sole reason that they'll most likely be eliminated before the end.

i think that the more challenges there are the less chance that there will be 2000000 people in each challenge, which makes it more intimate and keeps people involved. just my .02

I think both challenges are great ideas and different enough that both are of value, even if they're going at the same time. There will probably be tons of New Year's Newbies to fill up both challenges. Then again, those New Year's Newbies probably wont hang around long enough to finish 'em.

Since we're commenting on the rules, I just think the exercise limit is wimpy. Maybe you could get less points over 3.5 hours like 1/2 a point per additional 30 minutes, it would sure help those people who aren't losing so fast but are still making the effort compensate? I dunno, just a thought..

That is true Blancita, I'm sure the forum will have lots of new members in January with all the new years resolutions to loose weight.

This challenge sounds like fun.

That is an interesting idea. One could get 1/2 pt for every additional 30 min (1pt per hr) beyond the 210min up to 360min.

As I understand it these are two very different challenges that could certainly run in parallel.

The Biggest Loser challenge is more geared towards the "old hands" since sign-ups will start on 1st January and people need to have already made 20 posts. The people who only decide to lose weight after Christmas and New Year excess will probably not be in that position on that date. I suspect that the 36 entrance places will be filled fairly quickly and it will give little room for "new joiners".

All the disappointed people - and of course people that do not like the idea of possibly / probably being eliminated before the end and decide not to sign up will enjoy the other challenge.

The elimination aspect will mean that a lot of people will work along the lines that the challenge may only involve them for a short period of time - so they may happily sign up for both challenges.

I have no problem signing up for several challenges at a time. I suspect that quite a few people will feel like that. I would definitely sign up for both these challenges.

Since both challenges are geared towards healthy weight loss - I very much doubt that a mutually exclusive situation could ever arise where one challenge instructed you to do something and the other challenge instructed you not to do it.

I've never done a challenge before, but I'd like to have a go (or perhaps you want more experienced members???). Anyway, if there's a place for me, count me in!
