New Year New Life for April

Ok, I'm getting ready for my interview this morning for the 911 dispatcher position at the Sherrifs Dept. Wish me luck. I'll let ya know how it goes!!!

Good Luck Hope You Get It!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi April,
I'm pretty new here, and we haven't met, but I just wanted to wish you luck on the job interview!

As for vegies, I'm not a huge fan myself, and what I've been doing is steaming mixed vegies, broccolii, snow peas, carrots and cauliflower and then chopping them really fine (almost pulverizing them!) then putting them on my salads at night. All mixed together with the lettuce, I can't really taste them since I'm not biting INTO them ;)

Good luck today!

Thanks M2M. That's a great idea. I eat lots of stuff with tomatoes IN them but can't eat tomatoes by themself. I'm definitely gonna try that. If I can get them in my body without having to taste them. that's the best I can hope for. I tried V8 YUCK!!!!!! Ok, in the past week I have lost a pound. Focusing on getting moving this week. Believe it or not, John has actually started walking with me. At this point, 1/4 mile is all he can get, but remember that up and down hill. I'm encouraging even that small amount because I know that if I try to push him too much, he'll just give up all together! The sherrif has asked him to consider becoming a deputy, so he's really focusing on losing weight and getting in shape. Should I tell him that it's probably going to take him 2 years to get the weight off? Remember he is 200 pounds over weight. I think I'll just keep encouraging every tiny little success and let time do it's thing!!

Well, I just discovered that I'm incapable of correctly reading my own scale. Weighing in this morning, I realized that it's sitting on the 250 line NOT the 245 line. How depressing. Oh well, 5 pounds is only another couple of weeks right??

Hi, April, I have not seen you around the forum for a while, glad you're back!

On veggies... I also don't like how veggies taste, but I've come up with a way to make them yummy... Here's what I do:
Buy a frozen veggie bad from grocery store, and put them in a non-stick frying pan. You can add a tiny bit of water so they don't burn. Cover and let them defrost on high heat. When they defrost but not cooked yet, sprinkle bunch of spices all over (I use red and black pepper, dry onions, garlic, oregano and parcley), but don't use any salt. Then mix it all up. Then add soy souce to taste (I usually add about 1/4 cup), stir, add water if veggies get dry or stick, and keep them in frying pan until they are soft and ready.
Soy souce does add some calories, but its still low calorie part of the meal.

Hope this helps.

As far as your husband is concerned - encauraging even small efforts is a good way to start. When he sees the results, he may step it up on his own. Its importand to start out slowly to build up tolerance to exercise!

Good luck!

Hey April! I'm so glad to see that you are back and working on weight loss again! It is good that hubby is now thinking of is weight too. You are going to do great! :D

haha NothinToLose , i do almost exactly the same thing with my vegs :)
Also i make my own vege mince style thing so i can have nachos or other similar nice things that i miss.
Just boil your veges to a pulp and mash them up dry, then just use them like mince :)

Keep up the good work April, Its like a child waiting for xmas sometimes, it always seems a long way off and the days can go by so slowly. But once you get to xmas its going to be a brand new wardrobe for you! :D
