Nelly's diary ^^

Hi, I'm Nelly :lurk5:
I'm an 18 yo (almost 19 :frown:) swedish-french gal.

I started my whole weight loss thing pretty recently, a bit more than a month ago. Before that I pretty much ate like a pig. To give you an idea how insane that was, here's was my average meals for the day:

Breakfast: 2-3 bowls of cereal. More than 1000 cal

Lunch: 2 microwave dishes (1000 cal) or nothing

Snacks: 2-3 beers (1000 cal), a pack of chips (500), energy drink (200) and a bunch of other shit.

Dinner: microwave dish (500) with a bunch of other little things

I've been eating like this since I was 16 pretty much. Since then I can't fit in normal sizes, I'm too self conscious to go out in public very often and I have zero self confidence.

My goal weight is around 52. Slightly underweight but still pretty healthy.
__________________________________________________________________

To lose weight I started off with only eating 200 cal a day. That only lasted three days. I didn't lose anything. I then jumped up to 500-800 cal a day. In those four days I lost 2 kg. But then I stagnated. So I ate one day 1200 cal (I thought I'd gain like shit). The next day I had lost 1 kg. For the next two weeks I alternated between 500-800-1200 cal pretty much and almost everyday I'd lose a lot. I lost 7-8 kg in those two weeks. After having a big cheat meal, I stopped really eating well. And instead just made sure to not eat over 2000 cal. I lost only 2 kg in two weeks following that. And now for the past week I've been stuck at 90. I'm losing 100g almost every day. But it's not fast enough for me. I need to go back to how I did it in the first two weeks.

Anyway this is what I noticed.

My stomach is a lot tighter. It's firm. I also was swimming in my pants. My belt wasn't literally able to keep the pants up, the crotches were just sliding down and it didn't fit my legs either, they were supposed to be skinny jeans.

My goals for this week:

-to get out of the 90's by monday
-to lose min 2 kg this week
-to resume my 500-800-1200 diet
-to start working out

There is nothing healthy about being underweight. and starving yourself is also problematic when it comes to your health. It takes time to gain fat, and takes just as long to lose it. Slow steady healthy and sustainable.
And instead just made sure to not eat over 2000 cal. I lost only 2 kg in two weeks following that.
This is a healthy rate of loss.

Hey Nelly, good to see you started a diary! I wasn't going to say anything, but since Trusylver did I will agree, 52 kg seems too low for a healthy young lady. How tall are you? How did you decide on that?

I can appreciate, and probably top your prediet diet, most all of us have eaten like that.

You might consider posting your food and exercise on your diary every day. I have found it very helpful. It helps keep me focused, and give others the chance to advise and support.

You should not expect to lose the weight too fast, and don't let plateaus bother you. I know that's not what you want, but it is the way it works. If you stick to your plan you will lose weight, that's absolutely guaranteed. Its just the time that isn't.

You can and will do this!

Hi :)
I'm 1m73 (5ft7) and I just chose that since that was my pre weight gain weight. I love the way my body looked back then and I don't really like how it is when it's in the 60-75 range.

Yesterday morning I gained 200g. I ate 1000 cal yesterday as a result and I lost 900g (I checked again and again to make sure that was correct. That was pretty common in the beginning). I'm 89.5 kg now. Finally in the 80's. Out of the obesity class I BMI. Just "overweight" now :)))
Finished eating for the day (around 800 cal) expecting to be at 88 or at least lose a few hundred grams by tomorrow.

I was right -300. I'm at 89.2. Hopefully I'll be at 88 tomorrow. I ate 500 cal and I'm not sure if I'll eat anything tonight since I'm never hungry. But well, I've stopped the plateau :)

I don't know why I'm losing so fast. I ate 500 cal yesterday.

Because you are starving yourself, it is virtually impossible to consume adequate nutrition at this calorie level, you are not just loosing fat, you are loosing lean muscle mass, which will slow your metabolism, and make it much easier to regain the weight along with risking all the other health problems associated with poor nutrition and starvation. Loss of bone density at your age due to inadequate nutrition leads to osteoporosis, the lost density is near impossible to regain.

The greatest dangers associated with a 500-calorie diet relate to vitamin and mineral deficiencies. if your diet lacks the mineral zinc, you can suffer hair loss. Low iron intake can lead to anemia, while chronic low intake of calcium and vitamin D can lead to osteoporosis later in life, the hormone changes from such low calories also contribute a lot towards Osteoporosis. If you don’t get enough of the vitamin niacin, you could be at risk for heart attack.

Most people struggle to meet nutritional needs at a calorie intake under 1200.

I don't usually eat that little. I just wasn't hungry at all. I usually eat between 800 and 1200. Still under but oh well. I take vitamins to avoid all that.

Probably because you're eating extremely little. Please try to eat enough to nourish your body during this process.
It sounds like I'm stupid when I'm saying that. It's that usually when I ate that low, I didn't really lose that much quickly except in the beginning

It is possible that when eating so few calories you metabolism slows which means you are also burning less. A lot of folks here have expressed concern that my calorie intake is too low, probably rightly so, but I am eating more than twice the 500 calories/day. That is really low, you may not lose more weight, and you need to be careful of your health.

You don't sound stupid, the only stupid question is the one that goes unasked! You actually sound like a rather smart young woman to me, one who is just getting started on her path to smarter eating and living. Smart enough to begin this diary and ask some good questions.

Stick with it and you'll do fine.

I take vitamins to avoid all that.

No it will not avoid all of that, the hormone disruptions can and does cause life long problems and is not fixed by taking vitamins. Also taking a heap of vitamins without knowing which are needed and which are not can cause problems of there own, the least of which is expensive pee. If you read through the diary of another member @misty22 here you will see some of the heartache caused by hormone problems.

I am telling you this not to have a go at you, but to make sure you understand that damage you can be doing to yourself,

I'm at 87.9 currently. Just weighed myself. I stagnated at 88 for the last two days. wasn't worth mentioning
