Natural way to quit smoking?

im 22 now but smoked since i was 13 up until recently, the only way ive found to work is cold turkey. I found proper licorice root sticks tasty and good to chew on when i got the urge to have a smoke.

im well past it now dont even feel the craving unless ive had a drink of alcohol.

I've stopped smoking 6 years ago, after 33 years of addiction, in two steps:
first I've reduced tobacco-consumption over four months to nearly the half
second I've waited for an undefined opportunity, whatever it will be
Easter 2004 suddenly I had no tobacco anymore, I simply had forgotten to buy some. That was the opportunity I've been waiting for.
My motivation / auto-suggestion never to touch tobacco:
- it's under my value to be addicted to stuff like this
- to be healthy is a f*** good feeling
- as soon as I will touch tobacco I will feel sick

Just do it.

it IS possible and you don't need anything. I had been smoking for 4 years and last year - I just stopped. Of course i became a bit nervous during the first week, but you just need to wait and be patient. just quit - it's not That tough

I agree with croynostier. I had been a smoker for 5 years then I just suddenly stopped. Its a matter of mind of matter. Just imagine the bad things that smoking will give us like bad breathe, yellow teeth, bleeding gums, easily catching cough and colds and all those diseases that we can get from smoking.

If you want to inhale nicotine to help you stop smoking, there are 3 alternative forms, the fake cigarette, the nicotine patch, or nicotine chewing gum. If you really want to stop, just stop. It can be done by means of self-control. Who is in charge of your life, you or nicotine?

Is it possible to quit smoking through natural methods, I mean without using those nicotine patch or medications. I don’t have much faith in medications.

Is it possible to not put a cigarette in your mouth and not light it?

You tell me...

I mean, it's not rocket science but do you realize you are asking something that is obviously obvious?

This is what addiction does to you.

What you need to ask is: "What realizations I must come to, to stop smoking for good?"

Take some time off, sit alone and contemplate the idea.

Contemplate what it does to your health, the health of those around you, your finances, your emotional and psychological turmoils (addiction to cigarettes caused you to ask an obvious question that has an obvious answer.). Contemplate that the many chemicals you introduce to your body by smoking stress your body and cause you to have psychological stress in your mind as well (the physical stresses the psychological just as it does in reverse as well.) I can list you a very wide list if you like, to help you give the recognition you ought to give to cigarettes.

It wastes money, time, health. It fills up hospitals. It causes the promotion of bad habits. It causes us to have to re-write laws to enforce people to stop before they kill themselves through their own bad habits, it causes asthma in unborn children (such as me) it causes cancer, cancer kills people - caused my grandfather to die a very slow and painful death. I actually will want to shoot myself in the head if I ever am diagnosed with terminal lung cancer because I know just how ****ing ridiculous and unnecessary the pain is. I mean watching someones you love die while rattling through his own breathing and saliva because the cancer in his lungs are causing his lungs to not operate as they should while blood is being coughed up because your lungs are ripping to shreds because you couch so damn much and they are so weak and deteriorated. It feels as though you are coughing up a piece of your lung. In fact, it is a piece of your lung.

Now I must confuse you and tell you this:

Don't do it for what I say or what I stated above.

Do it for you. Once you choose to do it for you and you alone - you will quit, effortlessly and without looking back and your eyes will be opened and free of addiction: You will look back and think you we're an idiot.

I have experience in addiction, psychology, bad habits amongst a cornucopia of things. All combined with having worked in customer service and interacting with other human beings for the last 7 years. I have an analytical mind and can basically make a 3 million word essay on why you should stop smoking.

But, it isn't needed. All you need is to exert your power of choice.

Make the choice to quit.

There is no how. There is no impossible. There is only choice and choice is simple and easy unless we make it otherwise.

Remove cigarette from mouth.

Simple.

Easy.

Effective and done.

People are blind to what cigarette does because they are addicted. When you put in laws that actually help them have better lives they ****ing resist. \

Make sense much? No.

Study cancer.

Study what cancer patients went through while being afflicted by this.

Study how they died.

Study how the lungs react and deteriorate while having cancer.

Study it all, think about it with your logic and you will quit, beleive me.

This is basic psychology. It's called emotional attachment. It happens when you indulge a false need and when you become addicted. Addiction makes it seem as though you need to indulge the false need, as though your body needs it when it doesn't. In this case it's cigarettes. In some cases it's a partner in a relationship or a behavior.

Those little pills they give you, or little programs they offer you are simply emotional placebo's. They are fooling your bodies and minds into quitting by giving you a very strong and solid presentation that makes it seems like it works thoroughly and effectively. People fail to realize, you don't need anything other than food to live. The only thing stopping you from quitting is your choice, not your addiction. The word addiction shouldn't even exist. It fools people into thinking they have a problem when they don't.

You just gotta quit man. Watcha waiting for, cancer?

If you believe you have an addiction then people who claim you need to withdraw slowly, such as with patches, will make money from you.

Your not addicted.

Just choose to quit and beleive it will work and it will.

Smoking is VERY hard to quit. I quit cold turkey 9 days ago. I found out that when you crave a cigarette, the craving only lasts for a couple of minutes. I read online that you just need to get through the couple of minutes instead of giving in. So far, this method has worked for me.

I just started exercising again, and that helps. Also, keep your hands busy.

I'll never smoke again. I drank some beers last night, and had a couple of cravings, but nothing I could not get through. It's definitely more mind over matter. I have not enjoyed smoking in years, so I'm just done with it. I feel better. Food tastes WAY better now. Now, cigs stink to me. I used to not even think about the smell. My teeth are looking whiter.

To people that do not know how hard it is to quit smoking, let me give a good explanation and example. To the people who have never smoked, and thinks it should be easy to quit-

Imagine you have not eaten in a day or so. You go to a buffet with your friends, and the buffet has all of your favorite dishes. Your friends are eating in front of you, but you are not allowed to eat.

That is how quitting smoking feels for the first few days. Sometimes even within the first few hours.

Tomorrow is my quit date. I just joined the forums earlier this morning to get some excercising tips to help me on my new journey after 20 yrs of smoking. You can find more in the new member forum on my situation.

After smoking for 35 years and finding it nearly impossible to quit I used laser therapy in Charlotte, NC. Because of meds required for treatment of the stroke and heart problems I had because of smoking I didn't want to take any more pills. The secret is getting the nicotine out of your system quickly. That's why NRT (patches and gum) work so poorly.
I have now been smoke free 5.5 years and laser therapy was quick, painless and drug and pain free. About as natural as you can do since it simply helps your body thru the quit process. The support, guidance and advice supplied with the sessions provided great education and confidence,

The most natural way is to think of your loved ones - your children and your husband/wife - they deserve a healthy environment and they need you as well (so better keep in shape). Just the thought of these people is enough to motivate you to stop smoking.

I quit last last September. I tried nicotine gums and patches but all I did was smoke more. I gradually decreased the amount I smoked every week until I was down to just one cigarette a day and then dropped it cold turkey...with the help of bubble gum.

what worked for me was to take it slow, I tried to cut to half a pack a day for 2 weeks, then a half a pack every 2 days ect. ect. It worked and I haven't had any problems. Another thing that helped me was that I began focusing on my overall fitness and that made me want to quit even more. Find something to do in place of smoking, (run, cook, read, ect.) There is a good website that has tips for improving overall fitness I find helpful. thefitips.com

Hi guys,,,
What ever the way you use to quit smoking the first and the foremost is the commitment to oneself personally. If you are not committed towards quitting smoking you can never ever do this.So in every case the commitment is the core.

I see quitting cigs as pure willpower. And it should be nothing more than that. I used to smoke 1/2 pack a day and just up and quit when I no longer wanted to smoke. I'm not saying it's easy and anyone should be able to up and quit like I did, but quitting in itself, should be about willpower. I haven't bought a pack in nearly two years now.
