Cohen's Lifestyle My Personal Journey

Prefix for Cohen's Lifestyle
Week 4 Day 6 - coming to the end of 1 mth!

Haiz, another disappointing day. I don't think I'll ever ever hit 10kg in the first month. In fact, think I went up by like 0.1kg. Serve me right for weighing every day as well as the super late night sleep and late dinner! Guess, I just have to pay with that weight up! Must remind myself consciously not to do it.

On Monday, as I start my week 5, I'll be going to the lab for my 1st blood test and thereafter on Thursday, I'll be going in for my first weigh in. Wish me luck people! Dunno why as the day approaches, I'm starting to feel unsure all over. What if the weighing machine registers a way heavier weight? Gosh, I know that all weighing machines are different but how different can the one in the clinic be?

I think I shall try to catch up on my sleep today. I woke up early for breakfast as I didn't want to repeat whatever happened yesterday. Have been rather productive...have marked quite a few piles of students' work. STRESS MEGA BIG TIME! Dinner should be early today...at least 2 hours earlier than yesterday. So, I hope this change can urge the machine to move down a little by tomorrow. Nonetheless, I've been trying to look at myself in the mirror...why do I look so fat today?!

Oh, I also noted that my BMI is bordering at obese and overweight. Hope it gets into the overweight zone real soon. Don't want to be obese...really unhealthy, really fearful of all the consequences of being obese.

Tom

Ok, sorry to guys reading this...but really, guess you can't help much here. I need advice from the ladies! 1 month into the programme now but I realised that I've missed my period entirely for the month! Oh gawd! What's happening? I've read that while on the programme, there's a possibility to miss the period but so early this stage? Alarm sounding out everywhere! I've got to ring the clinic tomorrow and see what they've got to say.

Hi FlaMie- Can't help you there as I haven't had those since I was 42( & love it!). I think it's reasonably common but your consultant will let you know. Try to stop stressing so much about the program & .1kg increases etc. Stress will hinder your progress & you must know that it will work so relax & be positive xo Cate

FlaMie,
Almost 10kgs is fantastic - some of my friends managed it but I only lost 6kg in the first month. I was disappointed at the time but you just learn to accept what your body is ready for. Slow and steady for me and 10weeks down I'm 18kg down so I'm smiling.
I took ages to get into 14's -I was squeezing into those 16's when I started. But once I got into 14's they soon became loose and I can sometimes get into a 12 now. Won't be long for you either.
As for missing your period -mine has been regular and I'm at the age where menopause is looming (thankfully) so I can't help yo there. I would think though that if it was going to affect you it would be in the first month due to the drastic changes in your body etc.
Keep on doing well.
Del x

Can't help either, FlaMie - I've been annoying regular!

The usual problem I've heard of is increased periods (or should I say, shorter duration between them).

In the past when I was younger, I always found suddenly going on a diet delayed my period for up to 2 weeks.

However, it's weird that this time around and at 49, I'm just as regular as normal. Well, so far anyway.

Week 4 Day 7 - end of Month 1

Ok...this is it...today is the last day of month 1. Yes, the machine did move...by only 200g from yesterday...so I'm down to 77.3kg...ok, that's better than nothing. Generally my clothing is either fitting better than before or they are just getting looser by the day. My working skirts are skirting dangerously around the hips now...don't know when they'll suddenly decide to fall through though. Nonetheless, I have on standby 1 size smaller skirts/pants in the eventuality.

My stomach has been rather queasy the entire day. It got worse after yogurt this morning. I seem to get this "windy" feel in my stomach after yogurt...dunno why? It just got real bad today.

As didn't feel really comfy today, so decided to head for feet reflexology. Well, at least that helps to soothe and calm my nerves. Golly, new terms starts tomorrow. I'm going to head to bed right after this.

As the reflexology ended a bit late and it would be too late to get home to cook dinner...I had my first meal out :( I felt so guilty the entire time and had to go from restaurant to restaurant to ensure that I could get some Cohen friendly food. In the end, I settled for Tom Yum Seafood Soup. Hope that didn't upset the weight loss too much. It was the clear soup and I made sure they didn't had the spicy version. Well, I didn't take very much the soup but all the seafood though. Portion wise I think the seafood was right but vege was a little low. Well...duh! That's the best I could get just now :( WWWAAAAAA!!!!!!!

I had the same thing with yoghurt last time I was on Cohen's - went from queasy to feeling seriously in pain and sick. I ended up swapping to an egg for breakfast most mornings, which solved the problem. It might depend on exactly what is in each brand of yoghurt - don't know.

I'm OK this time on the ones I'm having - no problem so far.

Watch those loose skirts! I had a couple of seriously embarrassing incidents the first time around, when I was in the shops and suddenly found a great expanse of my abdomen/stomach showing to the world without me even realising! This time I'm making sure I swap down sizes BEFORE I have any more of those!

Don't worry too much about the eat-out. Just put it behind you and keep plodding on. I've had to do a few emergency things myself this time, and whilst I don't recommend it, it's just something to get past and keep on with the plan 100% whenever you possibly can.

Week 5 Day 1 - A New Beginning

Okie, here goes for my 2nd month. I see it as a new beginning as it is a whole new month of challenge. The only difference is that I'm now familiar with the quantity of food I can take, I'm more comfortable cooking for myself. Nonetheless, a new month will bring new developments to my body. Certainly hope that this month will continue to enjoy good losses as well. My hubby has actually wanted to make a trip to Australia in June. However, due to the diet, I've decided that we won't travel in June. So, if the losses in 2nd month is as good as the first month's, then perhaps, the trip can be planned.

After the eating out yesterday, although I made sure that I ate only Cohen approved food, I still feel guilty today...well, guess I chose lesser of the 2 evils...eat past 9pm or eat Cohen approved food. So, there I was, I chose the latter. But I must say that the soup wasn't oily one bit...that's the characteristic of a clear Tom Yum Soup...not supposed to be oily...just has a strong lemon grass / ginger taste...very nice.

I don't know whether it is the guilt that I'm seeing things? I think I've kinda ballooned a fair bit today. Well, that could be due to TOM. I know for sure TOM is round the corner...

In any case, I've really no desire to eat out because I really want to have greater control of whatever I put into my body and adhering strictly to the cohen diet. Having said that, I know there will be incidence where it would really be unavoidable...I want to be as true to the programme as possible...but I also want to remain true to myself. I'll do whatever I can at the time. I know I can do it most of the time...it is only in cases like yesterday's...sigh!

FlaMie- "But I also want to be true to myself". You are being true to yourself by following the Cohen's program & becoming the person you want to be. A slim, healthy person who is proud of herself.
Look at how far you have come mentally since you started Cohen's FlaMie. It's been wonderful to behold! You should be very proud of yourself.
I'm never without crackers, a piece of fruit & a water bottle & never will be again. The "Last meal Before 9pm" "golden rule" has the proviso "(or at least 2 hours before bedtime for shift workers)" so if you're caught out late the crackers & fruit should get you by until you get home. I find it's safest to eat at home if possible. Cheers, Cate

Heya Cate, yes, i do agree with you that the best way / place is to eat at home because that guarantees 100% on Cohen. So far, I've got no problem sticking to the programme albeit many negative comments I've received. Heck! I'm still coping pretty well :). I'm still saving those absolutely necessary eating outs for real emergencies...you'll never know.

I'm not too sure if I'm already totally grown in strength...I still get my weak moments when I so desire to eat my favourite food...like just now. Sigh...when will this stop?

Week 5 Day 2 - Horrid Day

Oh gosh! It's the TOM!!!! Horrid Horrid Horrid! Never felt so terrible before...those cramps/headaches/backache seem to be pouring out at the same time! What's happening? Certainly hope that's the way my hormones are fine-tuning themselves else I'll go and see a doc to fix them!

Food wise, all well. I'm now sticking pretty much to the same few favourite food. Can't remember who mentioned before that this is the easiest way to stick to the programme. Identify a few items which I like and then stick to it for a while. No need to waste much effort thinking up new things .

Today, breakfast was cheese and cucumber and crispbread...I kinda liked the combination. kept me real filled up the entire morning right into the afternoon!!! Though someone did mention that cheese would stall the weight loss? Lunch was the usual chicken and vege while dinner was my ultra mega favourite..spicy prawns. Gosh, I'm beginning to eat so much of prawns that I'm afraid I would run into cholesterol problem :p. Will see what the blood test result will indicate for the month.

I took my first blood test yesterday. No result yet but think it should come in another 2 days? Then that'll be my official weigh in...should be able to drop another few hundred grams I hope. Well, not exactly optimistic cos TOM!

I've no problem with the water intake...in fact, does any of you out there get the same feeling that you just get more thirsty the more you drink?? Hmmm, that seems to be my problem.

Okie...need to go rest that tummy...gosh...when will the cramp go away?!

Newbie

Hi FlaMie! :waving:

Wow, your journey is SO inspirational! :)

I did my blood tests today.. so I'm waiting for my program - I'm soo excited hehe! :D

Any tips? ;)

Hi FlaMie- Re the water- I think the more you drink it seems the more your body seems to need but it may be my imagination. Don't drink too much (>than 4 litres) as it will leach the essential vitamins & minerals from your body. A good yard-stick is 1 litre for every 25kg that you weigh. I drink somewhere between 2-3 litres a day. Poor you re the hormones. I no longer have that problem, even the "power surges" have stopped!
xoxo Cate

Cheer up FlaMie, because after TOM is over, I usually find I have about two heavenly weeks where I feel great, DON'T feel at all hungry or crave bad foods. They're the best weight-loss weeks!

Cate: So far, I've been consuming about 3-3.5L of water. Just wondering if the water must be sipped throughout the day? I take about 500ml before and after each meal so that quite completes 3L a day. Of course, I do continue to drink some more throughout the day but generally that's how I get through 3L...what do you suggest?

Niyah: I really hope that the current stagnant weight loss has everything to do with the TOM. I've not seen movement on the scales for like 1 week! Golly...so depressing. Well, let's hope this week will get get better. Well, at least I've seen my weight back to 77.3kg today which was up to 77.8kg last weekend prolly due to TOM water retention. So, at least it's a good sign :)

I think most of us kind of have to write that week off as far as seeing the scales move. We're retaining fluid etc.

But I don't think you need to worry - you're not putting on fat or anything, and afterwards it will correct itself. We're just all so dependent on seeing the scales move! But don't worry, the centimetres will keep going down regardless.

You'll probably do more of a catch up this week coming.

FlaMie, I'm no expert on water drinking but at least you're getting through enough in a day. I think it's better for us to drink a little bit often but having it is the main thing. You will see a drop in the scales soon I'm sure, xo Cate.

Week 5 Day 4 - Weigh in

3rd day of TOM...finally I see signs that the flow is back to normal. No more cramps - after taking 4 painkillers yesterday and a good night sleep. However, there's still this slight ache in the head...not throbbing, just dull ache...hope it'll go away soon as well.

Yea, you guess it, I went for my first official weigh in today. Duh! I don't get the luxury of weighing in the morning but late afternoon at 5pm instead! So yuckky! The weighing machine reads 1kg heavier than the one I have at home Okie, I shall not despair as it is still in the 70s!~

According to the consultants, I should be seeing a slow down in weight loss but I should see more substantial inch/dress size losses in the next 2 months. There'll be no more blood test till week 12...hhhmmm is that how it works over in other countries as well?

Well, still rather disappointed with the weighing machine as I still don't see it moving yet. Guess I just have to wait till after TOM...meanwhile I just have to believe that I'm losing internal fats...slowly but surely. Why do I have this lousy feeling that I've just wasted 1 week of weight loss? *Sigh*

Weight today (77.4kg)
Breakfast (Cheese and cucumber)
Lunch (Stir Fried chicken/shitake mushroom & lettuce)
Dinner (Spicy Prawns & Stir Fry Cabbage)

Not optimistic in any way that I'll lose anything by tomorrow...nonetheless, there's still the anticipation :willy_nilly:

Week 5 Day 5 - 1 week nearly gone

Okie, seems like something has worked here...hehehe. Was 77.4kg yesterday morning and this evening I'm 77.1kg. Not complaining...at least the weighing machine has finally decided to budge!!! Hopefully this drop continues for a couple more days to catch up on the no loss week.

Breakfast: Yogurt with 3 pieces of mandarin orange
Lunch: Curry chicken/abalone mushroom with stir fried veges & green tea
Dinner: Beef steak/cabbage/shitake mushroom & 1 diet coke

Will see what the machine says tomorrow morning. However, I'm still feeling kinda bloated. The tummy hasn't quite flattened as yet...usually will after about 6-7 days of TOM...well currently it is the 4th day, so will wait and see. As such, I presume there's hardly any visible inch loss then. Have to wait till Monday to do another measurement. I do feel that for some reasons the thighs seem bigger again .

Very busy day in school...but haven't much appetite though. I practically have to force the food down my throat. Well, no choice...DO NOT SKIP MEALS! Simply love Fridays/Saturdays. Hence, will go and take an early sleep ... hopefully wonderful weekend losses can happen to me too!!!!

Hi FlaMie,

Good to see that you're still on track!! Wow, no appetite?? Impressive! hehehe

I see that you're a teacher - I'm in my final year of studying education. I'm going to teach next year!! :D

Have a great day xxx
