Martin Katahn's Rotation Diet?

Hi, All,

I am new to this forum, and I am so glad to have found this thread! I am planning on starting the Rotation Diet tomorrow with the hope of losing 50 pounds in five months. I just happened to stop at a thrift shop to look at books a few weeks ago, and I found Martin Katahns book about this way of of dieting. I read it and it makes so much sense to me. I've tried almost every diet out there and they just don't deliver the quick, permanent results that I'm looking for, plus I always gain back every pound I've lost. I read reviews about the Rotation Diet on Amazon, and there are a ton of people who recommend this as a weight loss plan. So I'm going to take the plunge, and see what happens. I am hoping this group will help me stay accountable. I really, really need to lose this weight. I miss fitting into my size 5 jeans, skirts, and dresses.

Just a little note to aloe if she reads this: I am a fellow feast keeper, and I'm thrilled that you included that in your post. It's great to come across someone else who keeps the feasts on a forum like this!

Exercise and SelfTalk

Welcome 125infive! Great that you are a Feast Keeper too! I hope you are finding success with your rotation diet. My last post said "Not doing too well standing the hunger." in October and that was the end of that attempt at a rotation. So I have gained a few pounds since then but at least I have been increasing my excercise program since January and have now begun to use the book SelfTalk for Weightloss by Helmstetter and Schwarz to fight some negative attitudes I have and learn to eat less but enjoy it more. I've posted more about that in the "over 55 club".

Nowadays there are many solutions for dieting. One has to do his own research to find out which one is appropriate for him/her.
And I think rotating diet will suit many people.
well done

Aloe, Sharoo, Disparue, are you still out there?

I know this thread is old however I recently discovered the Rotation diet and I am having some success with it. Let me tell you, reading your post helped me so much in getting through the first three days (grueling). I am on day four today and I am doing much better on the 900 calories.

My starting weight was 162, this morning 158.8 YAY! I have been trying for about two years now to lose weight and it has been sooooo frustrating hardly seeing the scale move, so this is giving me a great jumpstart. I could not get under 160 now matter what I did.

If you guys are still out there I am curious how you are doing now. Did the weight come back? Have you reached your goal weights? Hope to hear from you or anyone on this diet.

Hi Aloe, I guess I missed your recent post. I am glad you are still on this forum and thanks again for all of your posts.

Hi 125infive, How did your rotation go?

Good Morning and Happy Valentines Day!

So weighed in this morning and I am down to 158.2. So that is almost 4 pounds in 4 days. I am doing ok a little more tired/hungry than normal but like I said, I hope this diet will just give me the push I need in the right direction. I have been using calorie king since July without much success but it is a good way to keep track of calories.

Welcome cmama!

I am glad you are doing so well on your rotation. It is effective but challenging so I fear that many who indicated on the board they were starting the plan have disappeared. I am trying the "cut back a little sensible lifestyle change" method - but in 4 weeks I have lost 2 pounds compared to your 4 pounds in 4 days! I'm experimenting with ways to comfortably eat less and enjoy it more. I hope to eat less and less as my stomach shrinks and if I haven't reached "perfection" in another month or two I may do another rotation and it should be easier because I will be used to eating less.

Do you have some desired weight you are shooting for? Do you think one rotation will get you where you want to be?

Hi Aloe

Congrats on your weight loss, you don't have far to go. This morning I was 157.8, I would love to get down to 135. My plan is to finish this rotation, eat sensibly for a few weeks and maybe do one more. I do not think that will put me at goal but close enough to were I wont mind if it is coming off at a slower rate. I can't imagine doing it more than that anytime soon. It is effective but hard. I feel moody and weak most of the time since I started. I did cheat yesterday, but I am back on track today. I too wonder what happened to Sharoo and Disparue. I know Disparue was planning one doing the rotations back to back, more power to her. I wonder how it went?

Please let me know how your rotation goes? I wish you much luck! Your current way is much more sensible and I will be right there with you soon.

Well, starting my 7th day on the rotation. I started at 162 lbs and this morning I was at 157.4 lbs. Almost 5 pounds which makes me very happy with the results of the first week. I do not expect much next week as I will be at 1200 calories but I plan on stepping up the exercise part so hopefully that will make a difference.

The Only Way...

Sensible eating too soon turns into normal eating which is mostly healthy but too much! Instead of going down in weight I have gone up 3 pounds so a rotation starts today! I had cottage cheese on a salad for breakfast, homemade lentil rice soup for lunch, grapes, 2 rice cakes and cottage cheese for afternoon snack. I'm not going by the rotation menus but will start with 3 days of 1000 calories.

Good job losing 5 pounds your first week cmama. Hope you are continueing on and will report in soon with good news.

Rotation day 2

Finished off yesterday with some cheesy corn spaghetti and celery for supper, radishes and low fat ranch dip for snack, for a total of 1000 calories.

I had a whole grapefruit and 1/4 cup of peanuts plus 2 ryekrisp for breakfast,
pasta and cheese with a green salad for lunch, 1/2 cup of sliced beets for afternoon snack and homemade vegetarian chili for supper for a total of 1000 calories.

For exercise did 1/2 hour of light weights working upper, mid and lower body.

Reading over previous posts I am certainly impressed by all the skating Sharoo does!

one more time...

I see this is my 7th rotation since May '09. That makes about 3 a year.
If I would keep the weight off I could have lost 30 pounds or more but instead I keep playing around within the same range. I know yo-yo dieting isn't good for one's health but I am hoping that if the range is less than 10 pounds it won't be harmful.

Day 3

Had oatmeal with milk and raisins for breakfast, asparagus omelette and 3 ryekrisp for lunch, salad with cottage cheese and some soy bologna for a snack. Supper will be mozzarella topped broccoli and millet, for a total of 1200 calories.

Had some cottage cheese and veggies before bed and that brought my total yesterday to 1100. My plan is to increase 100 calories each day till I hit 1800, stay at that level 3 days then mosey back down to 1000, then back up by 100 calories a day to finish the fourth week with two days of 1800. I also did 10 minutes of rowing yesterday and 10 minutes of stretching and I felt light as a feather this morning, with muscles taut and toned.

I was 181 on day one but am back to 178 today. I am feeling very hungry right now but I'll start making supper in half an hour so I must be strong! My goal is so near and I know I can do it this time!

still going - day 6

I am enjoying going up 100 calories each day though I am feeling extremely hungry right now. I successfully completed the last two days but am also feeling very tired today. However, tried on some clothes and really want to lose those last 5 pounds - weighed in yesterday and today at 177.

Oat bran cereal with milk, raisins and a mandarin orange for breakfast; vegetarian chili, a few corn chips and parsnips for lunch; soy bologna on rye with green grapes for lunch; will have spaghetti and salad for supper.

Did weight training, rowed and stretched yesterday.

Soooo hungry...

Okay, finishing day 7. Yesterday I intended to have 1500 calories but was so hungry I had some cottage cheese and low fat swiss, bringing calories to 1800. Still very hungry today, going to 1800 again.

Tallying up the calories for the first week, it would have been the same amount as 3 days of 1200 followed by 4 days of 1500. That is the calorie level recommended for men on the rotation diet.

Breakfast was yogurt, pineapple, and wheat germ plus 1 T of peanuts. Lunch was millet topped with cabbage and mozzarella cheese and 2 chocolate covered Brazil nuts. Afternoon snack was vegetarian chili and a grapefruit.
Supper was a 6 oz. chicken thigh, a baked potato and carrot/apple salad.
Brill core exercises, stationary bike and stretches for exercise today.

Still going

Finishing Day 4 of the second week, which will be 1800 calories per day. This is a pretty liveable level and I am pleased to be weighing in at 176 yesterday and today.

Still going...

I successfully completed the second week at 1800 calories per day, but was light on exercise. Reached 176 and am motivated to keep going so it was back to 1200 calories yesterday and today. I'm not feeling tooo hungry and 1200 calories can give you some pretty good meals and snacks.

I had yogurt with orange and wheat germ for breakfast; lentils and rice and salad for lunch; a slice of bread, an apple and some peanuts for a snack and will be having mozzarella broccoli on rice for supper. Evening snack will be cucumber and celery sticks. Did my weights today and plan to row and stretch later.

Thought after going back to 1200 I might see the scale move down today but instead it was up to 177! Must be that salty soup I had for lunch. Well that makes me more motivated to finish this third week right!

Just 3 more days...

I've finished the 3 1200 calorie days of week three, and one 1500 calorie day.
Hunger hasn't been too bad. I expected to lose some more by now but I've just gone back to 176 and stayed there. I hope to weigh at least 2 pounds less by the end of the week!

Did weights and rowing Sunday, core exercises and stationery bike today.

on to transition...

Today completes the three weeks of this rotation. Gum has been my friend because sometimes you just miss chewing. I've stayed at 1500-1600 for the final three days and done my exercising but scale still says 176. Well, that's a lot better than 181. Planning to eat 1800 calories a day for the next three days.
