I'm editing this to add the you tube video clip from the show so you can see that the people aren't old men they are talking about and in fact are pretty young and how the guy says it gives him a feeling of "what to expect" from a woman....

Heh. This is getting really popular in Japan.

I don't see a problem with it, I wouldn't get one of course, but there are plenty of lonely old men out there who probably don't have a chance with a real women. Like BigTom, but he's got his sheep so he's all good. LOL just kidding..hope he doesn't read this.

I see a problem in it. I'm as open minded as the next person, but, how can someone consider this a "relationship"??? There is no interaction as Janet points out. How can this help people develope the correct social skills to interact with another person in an intimate way? This is one more thing to cause people to isolate themselves from others. This is just the sort of thing that helps feed the perverse minds of serial killers and sociopaths.

The way you speak of it Phate, it sounds like it is becoming a trend??? When did you first hear of this? I was very surprised when it showed on the BBC. Didn't watch it though, had stuff to do.

So what are you proposing? That we ban people from having a life sized doll?

Come on now, if someone is lonely and doesn't want a real women, let them have a fake relationship with a doll.

And no, this isn't something that will feed perverse minds. It's a way of old, unattractive men that have no chance in the dating world to relieve their stress. If anything, this will probably decrease rape.

And yep, this is an going trend. It's getting really popular in Japan where it's getting sold out. Wouldn't be surprised if that popularity doesn't travel to other countries.

Main point : It's NONE of your business what people do in their homes.

Yeah, that's pretty creepy, but they made a really good, really funny movie about it. It's called "Lars and the Real Girl". Definitely see it.

I honestly don't really see the point in these things though. The population is pretty much 50/50 male-female. And it's not like the majority of the world practices polygamy so all of the women can't be taken. There are plenty of single women, so it wouldn't seem that hard for a guy to find a real girlfriend. I mean, I'd much rather take my chances with a real person than dish out ten grand for some doll.

You and I might not agree with it, but who are we to stop them?

Anyways, some guys just want to the pro's of a women, and not deal with the cons ( attitude, pms'ing, lets cuddle, etc )

I would consider the ability to speak to be a pro, but maybe some guys don't think so.

No such thing....I'm just saying that this ISN'T a relationship however you slice it up. It's plastic/rubber/ whatever and it isn't a relationship so call a duck a damn duck and stop trying to make it more than it is....Which is basically a 10,000 dollar BLOW UP DOLL NOT a RELATIONSHIP.

And if you took a look at the link the people with these "doll" are NOT just old men who are lonely, most of the people they showed were in fact YOUNG men in their 20's and 30's.

It's a statement on our society and it says we are about as Fvcked up as they come! to think something like this is is acceptable is pathetic. And no I don't care what they do in their own homes, but when that perv kidnaps your daughter and then does the same crap on her that his imagination was allowed to run amuck and do with that rubber thing- you will one of the first the people in complete outrage about it.

They don't look at it as a "fake" relationship, see that's where you are missing the boat, they take this all too seriously. They take these things with them around town! have them out at their house for parties!

It's the beginning of a corrupt mentality that will eventually be destructive...

Sometimes I am surprised by how blind you are to the whole picture.....
 
Yeah, it's true, people can do whatever they want, but it doesn't make it healthy. This behavior does not indicate a high level of emotional development/maturity. It's an extreme form of escapism, and it is not psychologically or emotionally healthy. But hey, as phate said, people are free to do whatever they want in their own homes as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else.

Nicely put. it isn't healthy, but we can't big brother them....I just think there is something very disturbing about it.....

I'm sorry. I can't help but really laugh at this. I'm sure there's a Lords of Acid song about this very thing.

I do think in a world where people don't want or need people, it'll be kinda' lonely.
