Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

My steak had me confused calories wise tonight. 14oz with the bone in (I'd say roughly 12 oz of meat). The calorie info for it on the web is all over the place, and the total for it could be anywhere from 500 to 800 calories. Since my dinner is supposed to be around 800 calories, this has a large effect on what I can have with it. The cooking method (pan frying) probably adds around 80 cals. So I played it as safe as I could and just had frozen veggies with it. The Miller High Life for dessert was tasty though.

I eat like a plebian, I know, but the last three months have been a major adjustment and so the above actually represents a fairly healthy meal for me compared to pre-loss fare. You don't want to see what I used to do to a Monte Cristo sandwich.

One of the few advantages of weighing more is that we end up with a bigger safety margin when it comes to food intake. When you're active the daily calorie burn really adds up so even at a worst case scenario for the steak your day probably still came out as a net loss.

I do find it annoying that eating real food like steak and potatoes makes calorie counting hit or miss although on the other hand when you go to a drive through and get a guess from them about calorie content the numbers they put on the menu can be off by 40-50% as well.

Congrats on the 320's and closing in on the 50lb loss

A rough morning. 329.5 on the scale again, and then my trainer decided today might be a good day to test my progress. I haven't had this strenuous a workout since high school back during the Coolidge administration. My heart rate monitor had smoke pouring out of it by the end of the workout. Right now I don't need motivation so much as I need someone to stand over me with a defibrillator.

yyh {that was my head hitting the keyboard}

Hey man, thanks for swinging by my neighborhood. Curious what you're doing for exercise now? I've been modifying my rowing workouts to push the heartrate up. Doesn't make for a fun row (except that it's done sooner), but I'm also not getting nearly as winded walking to my car from the office (a pretty good uphill walk).

For calorie calculations, have you looked at MyFitnessPal or LoseIt for the iPhone? I think you can do it online, too, but it has all the calories for most of your foods, plus the exercise calculator. Might be worth trying.

Well the exercise varies. For cardio it's been mostly basketball and racquetball with a heart rate monitor. I move quickly about the court playing the sport until my heart rate gets up to 160 or so, rest and let it drop down into the 130s and go again. Sometimes there's some minor strength training exercises mixed in. It's usually about 20 minutes to a half hour of this. Depending on how hard I've been worked, I may do an easy 15 minutes on the treadmill after.

I'm also doing some strength training (followed by treadmill after) and on off days try and do roughly 45 minutes of moderate walking on the treadmill or outside (now that it's cooled off). I don't have a job that naturally burns many calories (it involves sitting here most of the day) and so I try and make up for that by moving as much as possible elsewhere.

As for the steak calories, it wasn't so much that I lacked a source for calories, it was that I had several sources giving me several different calorie counts for a piece of meat about a third of the size as the one I ate. Multiply those differences by three, and it's a big difference in calories.

Impressive list of activities there MrVee and congrats on getting into the 320s/140s.

How's the recovery after the progress test yesterday? Hope the defibrillator wasn't necessary :)

Wow, yep, you're working out, alright! That's the kind of workout I wish I had the time for, but, as usual, my life is getting in the way of my life.

329 today as I've hit sort of a mini-plateau for some reason. I seemed to be losing weight way too quickly last week so maybe this is just part of that.

Feeling good as I contemplate what to do for exercise today. Maybe just do some treadmill and listen to music rather than make things too complicated.

AYour exercise program sounds great! If I had the money I think I would hit up my friend who's a personal trainer and do some session, unfortunately I am monetarily disabled at the moment so that will have to wait!

It is quite expensive, but if it helps ditch this weight, it's money well spent. It's certainly not a permanent thing unless I have a serious uptick financially, but I want to get to the point where I can't imagine not working out hard three times a week. The personal training helps a lot in that regard.

Having a bit of a blah day, but oh well.

Reminds me of the awesome graffiti I saw last week:

Fight Apathy!

or not....

330 on the scale this morning. Starting to get a little concerned. Seems like way too high a weight to hit a plateau at the calories I'm consuming, but I've done nothing different than I have been doing. In fact in some ways this has been a better week than others.

Personal training today, probably some weight lifting but I won't know until I get there.

We all go through those weeks. The plan you're on is solid so I wouldn't worry about the weight fluctuations, just keep working the plan and the results are going to follow.

If it lasts a few more days, maybe check back through the food log you've been eating and review it with your trainer or post them to see if anyone has suggestions?

I love PT sessions!! If nothing else than to remind you how hard you should be working in a training session. Good fun! Ah my last two weigh-ins have sucked- I have had a few extra snacks but not enough to warrant a small gain and then no change at all the following week! Hoping to bust through it this week, it's doing my head in! Hang in there, it'll come off. Just keep plugging away...

328 on the scale this morning which was nice. I guess at my size water weight does funny things. More personal training today. Yesterday was racquetball, so I assume I'll be doing some strength training today.

Chicken Cordon Bleu experiment last night which turned out good except that some of the cheese made a daring escape from its chicken pocket while cooking.

327.5 this morning as this would put me, in a very roundabout way, at two pounds for the week if it holds tomorrow.

Golf today which is sort of the ultimate in low intensity/long duration workouts. If you're in the Phoenix area today, I'd such suggest a hard hat or helmet or some other protective gear as I occasionally am not so accurate on my drives.

Here's a picture of me in my golf slacks which I bought when I was around 365. Time for new ones I think.

Anyway off to golf. Hammer time!

Good job on the continued weight loss. About weight plateaus, they are a funny thing and a lot of time very much associated with water weight. I used to chart my weight on excel and right down all my food intake. I occasionally would buy a jar of Clausen pickles, which have very very little calories. I would eat them over a few days and my weight would always plateau or even go up. But after a day or two, I would drop like a rock right to where I had should be had I not hit that plateau. So if your doing the right things, dont worry about it much. keep up the good work and your body will catch up.

I think my weight plateau might have been caused by bagels. I had bagels for supper both days my weight went up, didn't have a bagel for supper the next day and bam, I was down again!

Mcvee, Can't see your pic!
