Lift, Train, Fitness

Curious to hear if the AFL guys will curse you the day after training :)

The plan is to start with easy changes their bodies can adapt to first, and will certainly go easy on the plyometrics early on because the exercises seem simple and you don't feel like you have done much but the following day the CNS fatigue will set in. However the plyo will prepare their connective tissue better for games leading to less tendon and ligament damage in the long run. It is also important for developing their explosiveness for being able to jump for the ball.

2000 word process journal done, I will proofread later tonight before submitting Photographs and the accompanying journal.

I hate all jumping but I agree that it's important for many sports. They don't (yet) know how lucky they are to have you!

From the work done at uni it seems that 30 foot contacts in a session is appropriate for a beginner starting plyometrics which is not much when you think about it.

That of course leaves the question what a beginner looks like: a completely deconditioned 40-y/o or a fit 20-y/o who just doesn't have any experience with plyometrics?

I would treat everybody as a beginner until I can see otherwise, but if that 40 y/o is also lacking strength, mobility or has any old or current injuries to work around then the plyo would be off the table completely and those sort of problems should be picked up in an initial evaluation. Even the 20 year old may not be up to it, it would all depend on those initial assessments also, the 20 year old may have good cardio fitness but not the stability and strength.

passed todays assessment, but not as well as I would have liked, my internet cut out during the online test, by the time I got it back I had lost a fair amount of time out of the 45 minutes allocated.

There was a bit of bait and switch happening for uni, we did not do strongman stuff as expected, we did anaerobic training instead, The tute group was down to 6 students today, I think it would have been lower of they had actually told us what the session was going to be..

Back to back max sprint intervals and Wingate's, at least I didn't puke, 1 person did. immediately followed by intervals on the rower and the assault bike.

The purpose was to ensure we all knew what it felt like to go to that puke point before we give this sort of training to our athletes.

Next week will be strongman.

feeling much better after a good meal, chicken breast cooked with garlic and smoked paprika served over a bed of lettuce and cheese with a generous serving of hummus. I was craving a Shawarma but with my allergies this is about as close as I get lol

I am very tempted right now to have fresh chook on the menu tonight, the cocky young rooster just jumped up bit and hung onto my finger grrr. Youngest son has a new axe, it might just be time to use it. His days are numbered.

Is it bad that I laughed about that?

My husband laughed, and will move the beast to a different pen tonight, if the rooster has no manners he can no longer be in the pen where little miss likes to feed and cuddle her chooks. It will not save him from the pot however, I have a knife to sharpen and a big pot to organise for scalding the feathers for plucking.

We had a rooster that was mean to us kids as well (when I was 2 or so) and it was... pensioned off to my grandparents´ place. My parents never slaughtered anything at home.
