Kat's Journey: I CAN DO IT!!

Get well soon Misskat! Don't feel bad about skipping the gym, when the body needs it there is nothing you can do :)

Congratulations on your amazing weight loss!
I love reading your journal!

Sheeess Baaacccckkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guys I am back and ready to rumble once again - have missed you all and this incredible site.... got pretty sick back in June... needless to say also fell off the wagon re my training and weight loss... gained a few pounds (dont know how many - too scared to look) BUT I have been training again for 7 weeks now and am happy to report:

January 22 2008: 215.6

May 5 2008: 173.58 pounds (last post prior to today)

July Aug Sep - sick , no training, not sure how many pounds gained

Most recent weigh in, October 30 2008: 165 pounds!!

Getting there people... my "nearly happy" goal is 132 pounds or 60 kgs........

33 pounds to GO 15 KILOS TO GOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JUST DO IT - yes I know sounds corny!!!

As far as training is going I am smacking it 6 times a week - have had a PT for about 5 weeks now so I see him every Monday and Thursday morning at 6am and all we do is strength/weights (no point in him watching me on the stepper or treadmill!!)...... So cardio is only 4 days a week but that is always for at least an hour and defenitley half HIIT and half endurance.... Maybe I need to fit in one more cardio session per week....

Food is ok I think but lets see next weeks weigh in - if progress has slowed i might have to look at restricting the diet a bit...

Ok well its awesome to be back... Hope you are all smilin!!!!!!!!!!

Have you seen Lifesprints. It is a method which which was trialled on a number of women and experienced tremoundous results both metabolically, and most importantly, fat loss :)

It's a study that was done at UNSW by Dr Steve Boutcher. Absoultely KILLS cardio for weight loss ;)

Hello Matt! hmmm no I havent seen Lifesprints... am doing some research on the net about it and have found that he recommends excercising in the morning without eating first (which I do) and the basic priciple:

LifeSprints: Brief stop-start sprint exercise that uses multiple energy systems (anaerobic and aerobic). An example would be sprinting for eightseconds and then cycling slowly for 12 seconds on a stationary bicycle for 20 minutes three times a week.

Very interesting... so basically HIIT but at specific intervals.... also a silly question - "sprinting" would be cycling as HARD and FAST as possible...? any Heart Rate indicator that I can use to check myself??

Thanks Matt.....!

In other news.... I AM SORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! saw my PT Monday morning for another FBW! and I am sore - you guessed it - all over my body! we are upping the weights and difficulty each week adding extra muscle groups in on different excercises....

Also - did a quick 15 minute run this morning before boxing.... OUCH! as I am sore from yesterday it was hard to keep my arms up the whole hour but managed to do it.... felt great after....

Food is fine... no issues with willpower...:party2:

OK so yesterday was a write off - I had food poisening from some grilled red snapper (fish).... and felt awful had the day off to recover BUT I did get to the gym this morning and pumped some weights with my trainer!
ROARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now if that doesnt make me feel good I dont know what does!.... am high on endorphines right now!....

So what did we do in 45mins?... (excuse my lack of correct terminology):

5 min warm up on the rower
fitball chest press (25kgs/55 pounds!!) x 3
walking lunges with dumbell weights (10kgs/22pounds) x 3
fitball sit ups - full extension x 3

sumo squats with 30kgs/66pounds MASSIVE dumbell x 3
walking lunges with dumbell weights x 3 (OUUCHHHE!)

lat pulldown (30kg/66pounds until fail then 25 kg) x 3
cable pull (WHAT IS THIS CALLED?)- where you stand - shoulders back - elbows in - pulling up from thigh height to chest height (10 kg until fail then 7.5kg) x 3

I felt like I could have climbed a mountain after that... but unfortunatley had to get in to work~!....

Ok so just got back from the Dr.... to get something for the food poisening related cramps.... at the end of the visit I discussed my weight loss so far and how I feel like I am not doing so well anymore...

He said its due to me having PCOS - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (this is a metabolic disorder).... He took my measurements and weight height etc... said i could do with losing a few more kilos (5 to be specific) but THEN said I was being unrealistic and that I could lose it in 12 MONTHS!!!!!! WHAT THE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!................. man i am going to have to erase the discussion from my head because to me, that sounds ridiculous!..... to top it off I still weigh 75kgs/165pounds...... no change from 8 days ago.

I know I need to think about the fact that I have been doing weights for about 6 weeks but really is this why the scales are not budging?... I am frustrated and need to think scientifically as hard as that is............ I will just have to do more cardio - Lifesprints... cant think of anything else....

progress baby!!! - I have dropped to 74.7kgs!! SLOWLY but it is happening!!

Sat

30 mins HIIT on the stepper (including 5 min warm up) - always makes me sweat like a mad woman
30 mins steady state jog/run at intervals
20 mins - pushups situps planks and stretching.

Sun

I tried a new HIIT technique called "Lifesprints" (THANKS MATT!!)basically 8 seconds EXTREMELY MENTAL hard cycling and 20 seconds recovery cycling... I could only do 20 mins of this (included a 5 min warmup) as I pushed REALLY hard and really wanted the intensity to be HIGH rather than medium..... i wanted to fall over after!! YAY

20 mins - pushups situps planks and stretching

Today

5 Min warmup with rower
45 mins training with PT:
Sumo squats w 35 kgs, walking lunges with 10 kgs, chest press with 8.5kgs on fitball, leg raises on bench, lat pull down w 35kgs/30kgs/25kgs, standing pushing dumbells from chest to straight up over head 7.5kgs...

Diet has been pretty spot on.... except for a birthday dinner last night - I ate a piece of mexican bread which has cheese in it.... I know its not going to kill me... couldnt really eat much at the mexican place as it was a set menu and didnt want to eat all the meat and not leave much for everyone else but i couldnt eat much at all as it was mainly bread based entrees and mains or chips etc and not enough MEAT !!!! i hate set menus!!

I FEEL GREAT TODAY AND I AM GOING TO SMACK OFF SOME MORE FAT THIS WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:luxlove:

OK this morning:

1 hour of intense boxing - i was lucky enough to partner up with the trainer as there was an uneven number in the class... I really LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:action8:

Finished up with HARDCORE AB training........

Food today is fine - except for the row of sugar free dark chocolate I ate after lunch.. i feel guilty - about 5 grams of carbs right there.... I can work it off tonight.....

So I have been recieving heaps of new compliments from people at work today about how i have slimmed down again! SO HEY FUDGE the scales baby!!!!! and I had to buy some new clothes as my old new ones were starting to hang off me...

I go and see a PCOS specialist dietician tomorrow to see if there is anything else I can do to maximise fat loss whilst having this condition in the background....

Ok so it was raining last night and didnt go for a run to burn off the dark choc..... BUT i did do some other excercise !!:p

This morning:

Tried a new HIIT method called SP8 using the cross trainer:

2 min warmup
8 second MENTAL BADAS* SPRINT till you feel you legs are going to fall away from underneath you!! (level 21)
52 second recovery at mid pace (level 9)
Repeat for 20 mins
2 min cool down at mid pace
2 min cool down at slow pace

OMG I NEARLY DIED.... but it felt great - I want to slowly build up the 8/52 second phase to 30 mins...

Did some stretching for the legs

Did a 10 min jog on the treadmill at 9k/s

Did some more stretching followed by planks x 3 at 1 min each, sit ups, leg raises....

WOOHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy your day
