Before you ask BSL...she is married.
Your point being???
Oh, forgot to mention; if you work your arms/back really hard with weights, it's rather tough to get in a good swimming workout. You'll have to avoid swimming & upper-body at the same time, it's a conflict of muscle interest.
The thing I love about swimming is that it's cardio and burns a lot of fat...even though it feels like it's just your arms, swimming apparently is a FULL BODY CARDIO and many trainers say it's "the best". It's also low-impact and you can learn different strokes to work different muscles.
Other benefits strongly include that it will build the heck out of your chest, arms and back. Dude, the bigger your upper-body, the smaller (by contrast) your waist will appear. Swimming helps you get thinner AND makes you look thinner!!!
It's also very refreshing. Be sure to drink while you swim. It's very easy to not sense your thirst because you're surrounded by water and your mouth tends to stay wet.
Oh, interesting enough, on my longer swims the muscles that fail first are my legs! Hard to believe, but they'll cramp and get weird on me. You don't think you're using the legs much, but you'd be surprised. It's important to hydrate.
Wanna build some bigger chest & upper body, check out these gloves you wear.
It's exactly like going to a higher gear on a bike: you get more from each stroke, BUT it's harder to pull each stroke. It'll load your muscles up with tension and really help you build some upper-body. Remember, your body isn't used to doing upper-body cardio, so this will very quickly stack some more lean muscle on your frame...this will do 2 things, the process will escalate your metabolism AND each pound of muscle requires about 20-35 calories per day just to exist on your body. We're taking you from a V8 to a V10: more engine, more fuel it needs...that means you can eat more OR you can eat the same and increase your loss of fat.
You also want to get yourself some good goggles, NOT the racing kind, those sink into your eye sockets and are annoying. Get yourself some larger goggles that have soft rubber that rest on your bone.
And if you really get into it, check out the assortment of ipods that you can listen to with under-water headphones!!! Swimming with music rocks!!!
Seriously JW, discover swimming...it'll burn the fat, build the muscle and really help you develop a great physique: woman LOVE a swimmers body! I swear, I'm like having to beat the puntang off with a stick, they just keep coming at me!
Besides, any self-respecting former-fatty has built legs developed by carrying around all the weight. Check out the spin class, discover the pool and see if you dont' find some awesome results.
