unfortunately, this was done yesterday, not Apr 1st. I know he was a great addition to the forum, but I have had way too many complaints from valued members. I have forums that are 3-4x larger than this one and I receive less complaints in a year, in total, than I do on Steve alone in 1 month. As much of a valuable resource as he is, I cannot continue to deal with so many complaints.

and how many compliments have you had? i dont see a thread dedicated to the pure hatred of steve? i havent and i am also not coming against you :D please dont take it that way....but c'mon man we need steve

And it is always like this. Apparently none of you have ever worked in the service industry. People who are happy rarely say anything and the ratio of happy to unhappy is always greater. For every unhappy person, you could say that 100 are unhappy and don't even have a vote because they never came back. You can't really tell, but, at the end of the day, the ratio even existing is the problem.

I've received a couple notes on what is being said over at his forum and I would like to address them:

1) all about money. Hardly. Steve has no affect on our bottom line. Money comes from people clicking on ads and existing members never do. It's people that come from search engines and other forums that click on ads.

2) He's competition. Not even close. I didn't care that he had a link in his signature because he isn't competition and I consider that a fair trade considering his help. If he gets his forum running well (which I hope he does) and starts to get over 2,000 unique visitors/day (we have 5-6,000), then I might consider him competition (however, the competition will be against our training.fitness.com forum, not this one).

3) he's stealing traffic. not really. Even if our top 10 members all switched to his forum, it would barely make a dent in our traffic as most of our traffic are unique viewers (80%) looking for information through google and other search engines.

4) i'm disjointed from this forum and don't know anyone. Yup. That's 100% correct. I don't have the time to spend on this forum or half of the forums I've set up. I used to live on here for the first year and a bit, to get it going, but as one forum gets running, another needs attention. We are currently working on a Spanish WL forum and that is my new focus.

Unfortunately, the main problem is kind of a sad one. This forum became a "discussion forum", not a "weight loss forum". It was a place for support and very early on, that is what we continued to encourage. If you wanted quality health and fitness information, then you need to go to our training.fitness.com or bodybuilding.fitness.com. Some people don't really want help, they just want support and that's what we provided. Steve came and started to change that. As much as it was needed, it upset many of our users and many went away. I sucked it up, hoping for the greater good, but when the only forum I receive complaints on is always about 1 member, something has to be done.

Banned Steve - That is ridiculous he spent so much time giving advice which actually made sense and helped so many people out...

We need him back you cannot ban him......just because a few people complained that does not mean he should be banned; why dont you start a poll in this foroumn and see how many want him banned and how many not? IF you are going to do something like ban a valuable member of the forumn the least you can do is this....

I understand.

i don't create threads on complaints. they get sent directly to my inbox. I receive about 1 compliant / month from posters that have over 1,000 posts and 1 from new members. The complaints range, but stem from the following: arrogant, rude, power abuse, & spammer .... from the complaints I've read and looked over, I could easily brush aside ... if it was only the 1 time.

But, that's not the point. Out of 150,000 members across all our forums and sites, I have only received complaints about Steve in the last year or so. It doesn't even matter what the complaints are ... it's that they are coming in and I've done my best to keep Steve here but the complaints still come in and eventually something has to be done.

so because a few pissy people voiced their opinion, which i am sure wasnt only an opinion seeing how steve is very educated and would offer clear sound advice, your now risking the fight or flight of hundreds of members?
doesnt make since boss man....you said your self for evey one unhappy person you have 100 happy people who just never voice their feelings....well here is your ratio in full my man.....one of the reasons i stayed on this site was because of the help steve offered and the IMMEDIATE response he gave....you loose steve you loose me....he has a forum......are you ready to risk the loss of other members because of a few complaints?....well now you have new complaints lol

word son! DO WORK

you have to pay to play amigo....you cant rock with out a little roll and you will NEVER make every one happy....i would look at your few complaints and weigh them out to the monsterous outrage here

some people cant take discipline well and would complain about steve you said yourself it doesnt matter what the complaint was but they came in.....well now you got more but too bring him back....and i would say this is more than a few a month

As the creator and admin of a pretty large forum myself, I know this is a pretty tough decision.

My forum isn't nearly as big as yours (about 500 members) but it gets a LOT of posts. I had a similar problem with a member who signed up last summer. I received a TON of complaints about this member. At one point, I even suspected that this member was able to get my password, log in, and delete a member! (Though I was unable to find out).

This is a really tough choice. I assume that Steve had already been contacted about these complaints and was asked to tone it down a bit... I at least hope he was. I know a lot of the people on my forum wrote directly to this person themselves (In a very kind manner) letting them know they thought that what they posted was offensive and rude.

I eventually had to contact this person and firmly, but nicely ask them to tone it down. They still post a few things strange every here and there, but it is not even close to the problem it once was.

If Steve is still willing to come back, I think it would be great if we could all come to an agreement. I don't think that Steve should have to walk on eggshells with people, but maybe be able to handle things in a more diplomatic way. I also think that people should be more open to his criticism. Personally, I thought he was very knowledgeable, helpful, and a cool guy. At times I agree he could say offensive things, but I don't think it was anything that couldn't have been, or still couldn't be, worked out.

Just my 0.00000002 cents....

Apparently it is competition since you deleted my post with a link to his forums eh?

Stop kidding yourself.

I understand.

ditto....

it is a weight loss SUPPORT forum after all...for those with/had weight issues...

& there are other forums for specific health/training advice - training.fitness.com or bodybuilding.fitness.com

i think we should be grateful for this forum as a whole & to those who took the time to set it up.

you have to understand the outrage here i (and a few others i assume) were on the verge of what was a horrible path and steve helped us find the right one....steve helped me believe in myself and how to overcome things andeducated me on quite abit.....if thats not support i dont know what the hell is

Eddie C, I deleted my signature with my BI journal so this wouldn't get deleted :D

I also deleted the link to my journal here just for grins :p

This is not a decision I agree with on any level, mostly because it's a fact not very many people have the knowledge and expertise that Steve has with respect to nutrition and fitness. He's on par with Alan Aragon, Lyle McDonald and Tom Venuto (to name a few), if not better, because he didn't charge us anything!

Sean, good luck in finding somebody who can fill Steve's shoes ;)

Reading into your post people can infer that there is nothing that needs to be done to lose weight.. because, health, nutrition, training and fitness have no roll in helping one lose weight right? WOuldn't it be nice if we could all just log into this site and lose weight by chit chatting about our daily bs?

/sarcasm.

Steve never forced training advice on people (to my knowledge), however, he did respond to posts where some users were giving bad advice when people posted questions or responses. I mean, seriously, if you can't handle someone telling you THEIR opinion, based on their education of the subject matter, on how you are doing/not doing something then perhaps a web forum isn't the place to be. Especially on such a sensitive topic as losing/gaining weight..

And by all means, if there are any users who are seekign advice on gaining weight, I hope they are not chastised because they are seeking guidance too on a forum that's "labeled" weight loss. ANd for the subject matter, it's called WEIGHT LOSS forum --not chit chat forum, so if we decide to kick out those who provide guidance on topics not related to weight loss, perhaps all of those who are talknig about their personal lives that have (evidently) no bearing on weight loss should be spoken to with a stern hand...or ban stick as well!

No Steve never forced advice on some one but when someone would come in here and say "please help I am so lost. I heard somewhere that if I eat whatever that will help raise my metabolism or whatever" and they get a response from Steve or whoever else that says " your just stupid if you believe that" WTF are they supposed to think? You know every one is upset that Steve is gone but seriously guys. This. Isn't your forum and if you want to talk to Steve go to his forum. He didn't die he's just not here anymore. Its not the end of the fucking world. I'm sure I will now get 50 people talking shit to me for posting this but seriously I don't really give a shit anymore.

Check the URL baglady -it's weight-loss.FITNESS.com.. it's not weight-loss.support.com...

I have long held the belief that a large part of support for someone in thier weight loss endeavors is telling them where they are going wrong as well as going right.. So many people fail at weight loss because their plan just isn't appropriate and sets them up to fail in the long run.

Is it supportive to say -oh yeah that's a great plan.. or is it more supportive to say -why do you think that's approriate and why not spend some time educating yourself with regards to nutrition and doing things the right way so that the weight comes off and stays off...
