I have to eat THAT MUCH?!!!

Entirely tangential to the OP, but vaguely related to the current tangent, here's a guy who spent a month eating an average of 3,800 calories a day of virtually nothing but cream, egg yolks, butter and meat, while doing no exercise. By his calculations, he should have gained 13 or 14 pounds, and he actually gained nothing. (With additional commentary starting about halfway down the page here: .)

Of course, on the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog. And the plural of anecdote isn't data. But I thought it was interesting, in sort of a train-wreck-gawking way.

Hey Steve,

Feel better? :)

I can't believe you gave her the time of day like that. It's obvious what she is here for and caloric intake is the most beneficial method as SEVERAL of us have proved. I am so glad she thinks I am going to gain my weight instantly back... because I haven't learned a damn thing after a year of eating. I need this lady to come in and reteach me, these 80lbs I've lost aren't enough of a motivator... she needs to show me the way...

Thanks for speaking up.

I've got a large clientèle that can attest to the same thing.

I knew you'd eventually get to see this and have a "roid rage"...

I know you are joking Keith, but I'd like to add....

Definitely not raging. Though people around here love to add 'tone' to posts, I'm nothing but calm. My writing style may come across as rage, but I can assure you that couldn't be further from the truth.

I don't have the time to check that page out at the moment, but I can say I've encountered people who are a few standard deviations away from the norm. In fact, I was just communicating with and viewing a gentleman's from another forum food log. He's been losing weight eating 4000 calories.

These few are genetically blessed. It doesn't say anything about the reality of thermodynamics though.

For instance, some people can experience a high level of something known as NEAT that drastically bumps up caloric expenditure per day. Check this out:

Neat = non exercise activity thermogenesis

That's the beauty of it... I can actually tell you're a guy just sitting there as calm as can be... People can either take what you write in the context they want to or they can realize it is what it is. Most times its taken out of context because people themselves aren't here because they are open minded but because they have their own agenda anyways.

I never thought once you were mad or smug, just that you know from PERSONAL experience (I mean it's only your job and people are obviously coming to you in droves) what is correct information and what isn't. It's also VERY obvious that you will research something when you don't know it.

Bastards. :D

In the immortal words of Adam Sandler, "If I drink a milkshake, my ass jiggles for like a week."

Speaking of, I'm one of these people. I probably have an extremely high level of NEAT. It's like I have ADD and constantly have to be moving.

But when you're trying to pack on muscle, having a high level of NEAT can make things very tough.

Dr. Kim is not an MD... she's an accupuncturist... all her degrees seem to come from the same school which is the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine.

And if we're going to bring up hormones... men may have hormonal links to aggression, but women also have links to mood swings and bitchiness.

wah wah wah - excuses excuses...

such a whiny assed crybaby you are always coming up with excuses :D

Just freakin' do it man... COme on how bad do you want it :)

:dons flame retardant suit and waits:

wow, I didn't think my little post would cause so much curfluffle, haha.
Just so the doctor knows I am losing weight very well and am in no means 'stuck,' nor starving myself.

cleansing is bad -the body is self cleansing - forums -well-- they try to be - except for spam

i do like that word though

Curfluffle

I must use that word today a few times :D

Tangentally, I love it when Steve mentions "going for the crackhead look" and people get all pissed and take it personal. The crackhead look is the crackhead look, either you're going for it or not.

Nice going, Steve.

I joined the forum to ask "Dr." Williams a few questions, and in the meantime you go and ream her out a new asshole. Likely she won't be back now.

Anyhow, I wanted to ask the good "Dr."...

Of course consuming 33,000 calories per day, for example, will cause one to be over-weight. Yes -- overeating will make one fat.

Oh really? Can you explain to me then how people like Tim Janus can chow down on a 10-lb. turkey, 4 lbs. of mashed potatoes, 3 lbs. of cranberry sauce, and 2.5 lbs. of beans in a meal, or Joey Chestnut can eat 103 Krystal Hamburgers in eight minutes and not get fat?

According to your theory, these guys should be blimps. But they're not - they're skinny. So where then did all the extra calories they ate go? And no, they didn't puke all that food up either.

The body has two fuel sources: fat and sugar.

You have heard of something called protein, haven't you? Granted, it's not an efficient source of energy, but nonetheless can still be used for energy if carbs or fat supplies are low. It's just that I hate the blanket statements that you make.

Yes, I'm a doctor. It appears that you are a body builder.

Oh really? You're not a doctor unless you have been to med school for 8 years - and you haven't been. Of course, there are other types of "doctors" (PHD's), but when you tell people you are a doctor, they assume you're a medical doctor unless you tell them otherwise.

You state right here on this forum that you're a doctor. I haven't looked in detail at exactly what you said, but it would only take one person that you've told them that your doctor and given what appears to be medical advice to, to sue your ass off.

What did you want me to do? Just let her blow smoke and sell snake oil?

She'll be back anyhow.... she's too high on herself not to be.

So this supports her claim that calories really don't matter as much as some would like you to believe?

I was going to raise that point too, but there was just too many 'goodies' to choose from.

Aaahh...I found the thread I was missing out on..lol.

Well, I see all is well on WLF. :)

I would just like to mention that it isn't necessary to severely restrict whole grains--as the "doctor" said. I eat on avg 100-250g of carbs a day. The majority of those carbs come from fruit, veggies and whole grain bread and cereal. Somehow I've managed to lose 55lbs. I find that comepletely cutting certain food groups from my diet only makes me want them all the more. I've done the low carb diets, and I can never stay on them for long, and then end up gaining all the weight back. This time around I eat a well-balanced diet, and have a chocolate if I want one. I just don't eat the whole bag of them. As long as I stay within my calories, I can afford to eat a few "naughty" things here and there. And really, this is what maintainance is about--control. Once you lose the weight, if you don't continue to watch what you eat, you'll just gain it all back. A lifestyle change is required--you can't go back to your old bad habits once you've lost the weight and expect to keep it off. Therefore, it's good to make healthy lifestyle changes that are manageable for the rest of one's life. And I don't think severely restricting all carbs is reasonable for the vast majority of people. I also don't think it's healthy. 100% whole grains are good for us--packed with fiber for one thing.

Just my 2cents. Sorry if I rambled somewhat off-topic.
