Hey

I'm 18 years old and litrally need to strip all the fat off my body. I'm going to Ayia Napa in July, so hopefuly by then I can shift this fat.

But the thing is, i know what to do in the gym, thats never been a problem. Its food and portion size that does me in.

Can anyone write me a diet plan, exaclty the amound i should eat and when etc. I dont do suppliments like Protein cos i had a bad experience with them. So really its just plain food.
I dont care how bland it is, as long as it does the job haha

Thanks
Lloyd

Instead of asking people to do the work for you, take some time to read through the sticky posts and learn about nutrition. That way you can make healthy choices for yourself for the rest of your life.

I'd suggest is registering for a free account on or and starting to log your food. This will let you see how many calories you're eating and how your nutrition levels are breaking down. Once you know that, you'll be able to see more clearly where you can make adjustments, cut back, change your nutrition, etc.

That'd be a good start.

You can actually find a diet plan on the internet, but first you have to decide how many calories per day you need. If it's 2000 calories, for example, just do an internet search for "2000 calorie diet" and you will find a few.

The reason i have asked for help, as i have stated above is that many countless times i've tried to do my own diet and research it and stuff but it never works. Its like doing all the work in the gym but no results because what ever i eat seems to get turned into fat.
So i thought i'd post on here and see if anyone has a diet that have worked for them.
Thanks though

The problem is what works for me might not work for you as far as a list of foods. Instead, I have to think the reason it didn't work for you is a lack of knowledge about what you are eating. We might think we aren't eating much when in reality, we are eating alot more calories. We underestimate what is in our food.

For a start, write down for a week every bit of food and drink you take for a week. Get portion sizes. You have to be honest, no matter what. I bet when you look at it, you will see places to make changes.

It comes to calories in < calories out = weight loss.

Jericho,

I think your right about that, my portion size is vast to say the least. I'm a really big buy, not FAT, but like stocky. I play rugby you see. Do you have any info on portion sizes, like how much of each thing to have, in grams.

A regular meal for me on a diet is usually:

Chicken breast
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Peas
Sweet corn

But my plate is usually full to the brim.
Should i only have (for example) one piece of broccoli, one piece of cauliflower etc?

Thanks for your help

It depends what you mean by the sizes. I think the best thing to do is use your head. How big is the plate? Many people use plates that just are too big, which makes you think you are cheating yourself with a half empty plate. How are the foods prepared? There are different factors.

No, don't cut back on the broccoli and cauliflower. There's hardly any calories in that stuff and you should eat tons of it. I'd suggest about 3 ounces of chicken and maybe limit the peas and corn to a half cup or so. But again, it all depends on how many calories per day you need. Try the 2000 calorie diet for a while and see how it works. Adjust calories up or down as needed.

I've seen it time and time again where simply being handed some rigid, limited meal plan fails. You need to become more involved with your nutrition.

As mentioned... calories are the foundation. Shoot for 10-12 per pound of bodyweight. You can track calories either with pen and paper or sign up for a free account at fitday.com.

Of those calories, what comprises them is also important. If you want general guidelines:

Protein - 1-1.5 grams per pound of estimated lean body mass

Fat - 25-35% of total calories

Loads of veggies and a healthy dose of fruit

The remainder can be filled in with other forms of carbs and/or more fat.

In general, I agree, but it's how I started and I think it helped. I had never been on a diet of any kind, and had no clue. Somebody told me I should be on a 2000 calorie diet, so I found a few on the internet and that's what I did.

I soon found out that I didn't necessarily want what was on the meal plan, nor did I want to eat the same amount at the same meal, nor did the rest of my family want to eat what was on the plan. So, after a couple of week, I started tracking my calories and nutrition. But, it does give you an idea of what a healthy meal plan looks like.

That's an exception to "the rule" if you ask me. You're interested in learning and improving your grasp of this stuff. Most, and this is speaking from my experience which you can take for what it's worth... most want spoon-feeding.

But I do see your point... for some, starting with a pre-made baseline can be helpful. It's a foundation to build upon if you will.

I just think weighing and tracking food is beyond simple (with digital scales, tracking websites, etc) that why not build your own foundation. I'd imagine it's more likely to stick in many cases.

Jericho - The plates are just an average plate size, and i know what you mean by thinking i dont have enough on my plate.

Thanks for your help guys, basically i've realised that i need to count calories basically. I'm looking to lose weight pretty fast, so i think i'll cut down on calories drasticly, for example 1200 calories instead of 2000. Do you think this is a good idea? Or could it do me some harm?

Also does anyone have info on sauces. Because right now my food is pretty bland, and i was thinking of using a tomatoe based sauce (home made).

No, if you want me to be honest, I think it's a dumb idea.

What is the big deal about "pretty fast"? Why does it have to be fast? Why not be healthy instead?

Cutting calories drastically can slow your metabolism so that it becomes harder and harder to lose weight. It can reduce your nutrition, so you're not able to exercise and you become fatigued easily. It can lead to you being hungry and quitting because the extreme low amount of calories you've chosen is simply unsustainable.

I'm going to say it again: READ THE STICKY POSTS.

There's a lot of good information on nutrition, balancing your meals, portion sizes, logging your food, etc. You can read it and learn and become healthy as you lose weight, or you can just pull ideas out of thin air, starve yourself, and eventually wind up right back where you are - or heavier.

The reason why as i stated in my first post is that i'm going on holiday in July. And the two guys i'm going with have awsome bodies. Thats why i want to drastically lose weight. I have the power to keep doing it. Trust me, i just need to stick to my diet.

I have to admit... this thread makes me want to bang my head against the wall. I know it "just feels right" or like a good idea, but if history means anything... I hope you know you're thinking about things in a very counterproductive way.

I make that statement under the assumption you actually care about what happens to your weight after holiday.

And if you go about things the "right way," amazing things can happen by July.

What do you mean by this? What can be done different?
And in all honesty i do care about my body after my holiday, but not as much as i care about it before my holiday

What do you mean what do I mean?

Don't you think if rigid, strict diets worked, we wouldn't have such a problem on our hands with the obesity epidemic? And you wouldn't find so many damn people struggling to succeed b/c they're so stuck in the temporary way of eating mindset vs. the lifestyle mindset?

Everything you're desiring is the heart of why a) people flop more often than they don't and b) the diet industry literally rapes people in terms of shrinking their wallets.

Yup. What Steve said.

You pretty much flat out said that you don't give a damn about being healthy as long as you can drop weight as fast as possible for some vacation so you can compete with someone else who has an "amazing body".

You are taken over by that mindset that says: I want what I want and I want it now and I don't want to have to work for it or get it the right way - I just want a magic bullet.

You obviously don't understand that you don't get an "awesome body" by crash dieting and f'ing with your nutrition and your health.

Honestly I have little sympathy and little desire to help someone who intentionally ignores health in favor of a "quick fix" crash diet.

Well honestly i think that the reason why people are fat is not because they eat the wrong food, but because they dont exercise. All i'm saying is that when i was playing rugby basically every day before i got injured, i could eat what i liked and i wouldnt put on any weight. Also my law teacher is a runner and i've seen her eat like 8 bars of chocolate and shes really skinny.
I do have to admit however that obviously diet does play a part, but only when it comes to people that are fat already and trying to lose weight, or people who eat what they want but DON'T exercise.

I came on this website looking for help because i'm sick and tired of trying to lose weight on different diets but none of them have worked, partly my fault.
You and others have given me some very valuable info, which i thank you for, but i did state on the first post that up untill the 11th July i'm doing all this to lose weight for my holiday. After my holiday THEN i will put my diet into action in a different way. To keep off the weight and lose more over how ever long it takes me.

Sorry about this pure essay haha I just got a little anoyed that people were kinda having a go at me, because i'm trying to lose weight
