Funny things you see in the gym

This is some pretty funny stuff. Oddly enough, I can't think of a darn thing at the moment, and I know I've seen some crazy stuff. hmm...maybe I'll think of it later. Until then, great stories everyone.

This I saw just today:

She walked, looking nearly in competition shape. She had triceps that would make Milkman jealous and thick, solid nutcracker thighs.

She set up at the smith, left the room, came back with a BOSU, then started to do split squats, aka static lunges, followed by something I've never seen before (it seemed more showy than functional).

She did a split squat, with the leading foot on the BOSU, at the top of the concentric, she would kick her trailing leg up and out to the front.

Any ever seen this before?

I went to a newly opened gym today on a free trial since my college gym is closed and seen a completely worthless PT session. The trainee was probably around 16-17 and they did about 30 minutes of curls. What kind of crap is that?

Hey guys new to the forum (was just about to post in introduction and saw this so I will do it the wrong way round).
I have only jsut joined the gym and I had my induction but they did not show me all the stuff there so my mom (yes I know its sad) who has been at the gym for 7 years said she would show me. So we went in and there were these three Asian guys in their late teens struttin their stuff thinkin they were red hot, and they were on three of the machines and kept rotation which is illegal in my gym (dont know if it is in all) and my mom wanted to show me one and she managed to jump on between them switching. They were lifting 45kg and my mom sticks it up to something liek 60kg and starts pumping away showing me what to do (obviously at a lower weight) and these guys were just awe struck, needless to say she stuck them in their place as they realised they were not the bizz in the gym.
Though saying that its quite embarrassing to have a mom who lifts more than you!

See you around the forum guys (and gals!)

If your mom knows her stuff, you need not be embarrased. Everyone starts at the bottom and she should know that.

I noticed something weird at my gym today; stuck to the wall behind all the machines (I wasn't using them I promise, I was busy doing all those compounds with free weights :) ) was a sign that said something like 'please refrain from using your mobile while in the gym area' which sounds reasonable enough but underneath the writing was the message again in braille.

What I'm wondering is how the f*** are blind people supposed to know the sign's there in the first place?

/\ /\ No kidding. Well, not to be insensitive, but what would a blind person be doing in the gym in the first place? There are a lot of heavy metal objects being moved around (some of them practically thrown around). That could be seriously dangerous for someone who can't see, heck, I've almost been hit with stuff before.

It doesn't really require sight to use the bikes and ellipticals, as well as most of the machines.

True. I was thinking more about the cable machines and free weights. That could be pretty dangerous.

Lately I've been noticing lot's of new people joining the gym. Unfortionately they're all put on this same "routine" jumping from machine to machine. It goes something like leg extension, leg curl, bike, those thigh abductor things, then some crappy shoulder press machine. The funny thing though, is that EVERY new person does this exact same routine, so they follow each other around in a circle around the gym completely clueless to what they're actually doing, and they really don't look like they're enjoying it LOL like they're in some kind of concentration camp.

Could be that an employee is setting the new people up on these "workouts". I've seen stuff like that before.

I saw something the other day, not so much funny as annoying. This little kid was walking around by himself, basically clueless and attempting to do some machines. I watched him enter his info on a bike, age 13!!!! WTF! I mentioned it to another trainer who said that she has reported him before, and his mother is supposed to be with him at all times, so she's probably around somewhere. Nope. I saw her pull up in her BMW, talking on her cell phone, waiting for him to come out and get in the car. The gym should keep a tighter leash on people who break rules like that, but the mom should be smacked.

With a trainer?

Does anyone know what doing curls while standing on 1 foot does, cause I see trainers making trainees do it all the time?

Its a part of stabilization training. A beginning member of the NASM OPT model of training should usually start in the stabilization level of training. This is one of the exercises that while doing a bicep curl, also incorporates the use of other muscles to keep your balance.

I saw a woman working out in mid-high heels and Tom Sawyer slacks yesterday. She looked dressed for a day at the races rather than for a workout.

Haha, I always see a guy working out in slacks and Birkenstocks.
