Sport Drinking Raw Eggs

Anybody done/do this?

Been considering doing it for breakfast, maybe 1 whole egg & 8 egg whites to get some fast high protein.

I'm just nervous of how bad it's going to taste!

Tobasco never hurts anything :)

My first question is why?

And yes, I have done this, because I was on a liquid diet for 6 weeks. Post operatively, before you all freak out, I wasn't on the V Diet or anything :D haha. Anyway, I never had them straight, I added them to things, mostly soup. I did, however, use egg whites in lots of smoothies. Didn't even notice the taste of the whites.

i did this back in the day, as a result of being pumped up over the Rocky Movie!

its not the taste, its the feeling of that yoke popping as it hits the back of your mouth that was radical.

they'll gag ya, but it's totally macho and worth it

get on with it

F**K it! I eat the shell too! Be a man and crunch that thang!!

Mix them with milk and Oj and it tastes a bit like a cream sicle. I dont eat the shells tho cuz i heard thats where the samonella (spelling) is.

Cheers for the replies :D

Like FF said, i'm just going to get on with it and try it. I'm scared though!

It's just quicker than eating an omlette or scrambled egg etc.

And for the people asking why i want to do this, why else...It's a fast, high protein source.

Best. post. ever! LMFAO

Actually, the salmonella is in the shells. But eating the shells is absurd lol

I'm pretty sure it's possible to get Salmonella infected eggs, not sure on the prevelance but I'm sure there are cases of Salmonella infection though eggs.

Regardless of the infection perspective, I thought cooking eggs improved their nutrional value. I'll try and find some kind of evidence to back that up but a lot of foods have improved bioavailablity of nutrients during digestion once cooked so it'd be better if you cooked them anyway

Drinking raw eggs mixed in milk is pretty old school and I admit it's pretty cool but I tried it when I was a kid and I wasn't impressed

Found this....

The calculated true ileal digestibility of cooked egg protein amounted to 91%.

In this study, it was shown that after ingestion of 25 g of raw egg protein, almost 50% is malabsorbed over 24 h. The higher digestibility of cooked egg protein presumably results from structural changes in the protein molecule induced by heating, thereby enabling the digestive enzymes to gain broader access to the peptide bonds. It has been suggested that the reduced digestibility of raw egg white is at least partially related to the presence of trypsin inhibitors in raw egg white (Matthews 1990).

I seem to remember Derwyddon/Western Skye saying something about trypsin inhibitors a few years back which rang a bell in the gap between my ears
