Drex's Journal

Hey Richard,

Yes, it came in a couple weeks after I ordered it. I have had it out a couple times now. I posted a pic of it a page back in the journal here.

Drex, that is a sweeeeeeet ride! Hey, what size is your previous bike? I'm thinking maybe I can borrow it and we'll ride when I go to Eagan at the end of June/first week of July. Or, I can ship my Orbea. Either way, would you be interested in riding on Sunday, June 29 or Friday, July 4?

I should be back to decent bike speed by then.

Richard

I don't think it was measured the same. I think it was just a large frame bike. It is close to the same size as the Trek. If you can ride a 62" frame you can even ride the Trek and I will ride the old one. One way or another we can work it out. Either or both days should work for me. I should be recovered from the marathon on the 21st by then. :)

Here is my new road bike. I have had it for about a month now, but haven't had it out yet. The snow is mostly melted now and the weather getting warmer, so I plan on taking it out soon.

Ran 7 miles outside; 58:29.

We met my mother-in-law for dinner tonight at a place called The Good Earth. It is a pretty neat place, all healthy and mostly organic foods.

I am one sick puppy!!!! I actually didn't notice the booty calendar because I was looking at the bike. Pathetic....

Okay, Drex, I'll ship my Orbea, which is a 57. I've been meaning to get a hard case for it anyways. Depending on flight availability, we'll definitely be able to ride one day, maybe both.

Winter is moving back in for a few days. It's was in the low 30's tonight, windy, heavy rain, sleet & snow. It is supposed to snow all day tomorrow and we may get up to a foot. Snow to continue into Saturday morning. I am running my 20 mile run on Saturday, but with temps in the low 30's, high winds and snow in the forecast, I may be doing it on the treadmill. Hopefully it doesn't get as bad as they think.

20 mile run today and was able to do it outside.

I found the setting on my garmin that was causing it to be inconsistant. It has a smart setting that allows it to estimate, which allows it to save more data. I switched it to save data every second. It can hold up to 3.5 hours worth of info at that rate.

I have a 5 mile course, so I ran that 4 times. I had to run through my warm-up/cool-down area 3 times though, so I knew this was going to come out to a little more than 20 miles. Here are the results:

20.6 miles, 3 hours 3 mins 11 secs, 8:53 Avg Pace, 2386 ft total ascent (lots of hills)

We didn't get as much snow as they predicted, mostly rain. Temp was 30 degrees at start, 32 degrees at finish. Winds were at 20 mph from the north. There were light flurries. Sidewalks were a little icey in spots, but not too bad.

At about 9 miles my achilles tendons started aching as I was pushing into the wind up a hill. I had a pretty good pace up to that point, but that caused me to slow up just a little for the rest of the run. It is hard to dress for cold windy weather. When running with the wind I was sweating enough to sweat through 2 layers, but then going against the wind I would freeze wearing the wet clothing from sweating. At about 18 miles my left knee was getting a little sore, but that was not too bad. Other than the achilles tendons and my left knee, the rest of my body felt descent.

I stopped about 10 seconds for water at miles 5, 10 & 15. Clock was running through water stops.

Checking out the graph on the garmin software I can see my speed slipped a little on miles 18-20. Not a lot, but noticable. The chart also shows I stayed pretty steady through miles 1 - 18 and maybe I didn't slow down as much as I thought when the achilles tendons started bothering me.

Overall it was a pretty good run.

a pretty good run!!! A PRETTY GOOD FF'in RUN he says!!!!!! OMG! pffffft

WELL- oh yeah!!! let's see you keep that pace at 80 degrees with humidity- CHUMP! hahahahahaha

knees--- do not think too much about the knees. There is little we can do to make them stronger, and once they are bad, many times they are "just bad" SO- I choose not to think of them.... when they grind- they are telling me to leve them alone, when they click- they are telling me to forget abotu them, and when they feel like they may buckle-p they are telling me to do more weight training. Other than that-- knees do not exist, they are simple machinery that does not wear out. THE SKY IS NOT FALLING< the SKY IS NOT FALLING,.,..... knees!!! what knees.

p.s. your first lesson in being "advanst in dumb"
pals,
FF
oh-- I also dump 2K mils of Glucosamine into each protein shake- helps me to "effectively" forget them. ;)

Oh, and anythign Derdy girl has offered me, has turned out to be total quality info- even if it did seem like TOTAL BULLSHEET...ahhahahahaaha

Thanks Derwyddon, I appreciate that.

FF, The hot weather is coming soon and I know that will take a hit to my times. I had a few runs in humid 95 degree weather last summer. I have been taking Glucosamine daily for a few months now. :) Good to see you stopping by.

weeeell!!! what did you do today Drex? DId you run to N.Dakota, and then swim the great lakes or what? huh! where are ya... shheeeeeesh, probably still in bed. :11doh:
