Drex's Journal

They start out feeling fairly light, but by the time I get to 15 they are feeling pretty heavy. :) I try to keep as much weight as I can handle for the number of reps. I am usually struggling to get number 15 on the third round of a set. If I can get through all 3 ok for a lift I bump up the weight next time.

those are some of the longest workouts iv seen on this site so far!

a hard worker, huh?

"what we'v got here...is a failure to be lazy."

This isn't really designed to be a strength building routine. Drex does a pretty good job of keeping the weight up, but I'd never expect someone to be pushing out what they'd use for a "regular" 12 rep workout.

I see, yeah I remember he is cutting for that marathon. So it's more of a strength maintance routine then?

LOL Proteinboy!

That is the way I see it Realworksuks. The routine give me a lot of different lifts to hit all the muscle groups to keep using them. It also works cardio a little more than a standard lifting routine. I have also heard this is a pretty good fat burning workout. My body has been adapting to it pretty well though and I have been increasing weight to continue to make it a hard workout. I learned adding 5 lbs for 15 reps is a pretty big step over adding 5 lbs to 10 reps. :)

I have an 18 mile run today, so working on getting ready for it. I am going to be running it outside and there will be a lot of hills. Temp when I just looked was about 22 degrees. It should be warming up a little though. The high today is 46.

Ran 18 miles outside.

It turns out it is very windy today. Fighting the wind up the hills was rough. The temp was ok, but was a little chilly with the wind. It was in the 30's for most of the run.

I don't have an exact time for the run. I brought my garmin with but apparently bumped the start button at my second water stop when I put a gel pack into the pouch where I was carrying it. I stopped for water for about 15 seconds at miles 5, 10 & 15. The garmin had me at 10.4 miles with a time of 1 houyr 32 mins at the second stop when I accidently stopped it.

I feel like I carried an even pace for the entire 18 miles. The garmin shows that I did for the first 10. It had me at 671 ft of ascent for the first 10 miles and an 8:52 min/mile pace. This is slow, but for the conditions and the distance I will take it. I left at about 9:35 and got back in the house at 12:27. That includes a short warm up and cool down in addition to the run.

I felt better than I expected at the end of the run. My right hamstring started to hurt starting at around mile 11, but nothing too bad and didn't slow me down much. Nothing that I am going to worry about right now.

Next week is a recovery week for running, so no long run. In 2 weeks I get to tackle a 20 miler.

Your a sick man my friend :p I envy you. The most I have ran at a time is 3 miles! haha.

Thanks Realworksuks, it has taken me a long tme and a lot of miles to get to this point.

Here is my new road bike. I have had it for about a month now, but haven't had it out yet. The snow is mostly melted now and the weather getting warmer, so I plan on taking it out soon.

Everytime I say something about getting outside, the weather gets worse. We are supposed to get 7 inches of snow today now.

Ran 5 miles outside; 39:27.

I was suprised with my time for this run. The city cleared off some of the sidewalks this morning, but not all of them. It warmed up to 41 degrees, so the sidewalks they cleared were good, but I had about 2 miles of sidewalk that was covered with about 4 inches of heavy wet snow. Between the snow and the hills this was a much better time than I thought I was capable of.

4/2/08

Ran 5 miles outside; 37:42.

It was 40 degrees and cloudy. Most of the snow was melted off the sidewalks now with only a couple short stretches with a couple inches of snow. I think the cool weather is helping right now. I think as the weather gets warmer it will probably slow down my times. Even with the cool temps, I was sweating pretty good at the end wearing sweat pants and a thin shirt.

Biked for 30 mins.

Biked 4 miles. I went to try out my new road bike for the first time. By the time I got home from work, got done lifting and drove to the bike trail, I only had about 45 minutes of daylight. It ended up though that there were several patches of solid snow that I had to stop and push the bike through. At 2 miles I hit a patch of snow that went on as far as I could see. I decided to just turn around at that point. So, not much of a ride, but started breaking in the bike. I also found they put the computer mount on upside down, so my computer was a little hard to read.

4/5/08

Ran 6.2 miles outside; 48:42.

I got stuck at the stoplight for about 30 seconds 3/4 of a mile into the run. I think this kind of discouraged me since I knew it was going to affect my total time. While I was waiting at the light I did see a first. Two cars were making left hand turns at the light. Apparently the front car wasn't going fast enough for the second car, so the second car passed the front car on the left during the turn and merged in front of him right as they were entering the new lane.

Biked for 30 mins.
